Tebow is your new Broncos starting QB

It might have taken four and a half games into the regular season, but it looks like the Broncos coaching staff has finally fallen in line with its fans: Head coach John Fox named Tim Tebow the team's starting quarterback on Tuesday. And that's where we'll begin today's discussion with Pete Prisco, Mike Freeman, Josh Katzowitz, Will Brinson and Ryan Wilson. Fire away.

"Well, I think [the] 1-4 [record] has a lot to do with it," Fox said, according to the Associated Press. "We haven't gotten it done as a football team. It's not one guy. It's not all Kyle Orton's fault. But we do have to make adjustments, we have to change and we have to do something to win football games."

Tebow replaced Orton in the second half of Sunday's loss to the Chargers where he completed 4 of 10 throws for 79 yards, including a passing and a rushing touchdown, and the Broncos were a last-second completion in the end zone from beating their division rival. Orton, for his part, has played poorly enough to lose the job, although the organization decided not to trade him to the Dolphins prior to training camp because Tebow wasn't deemed to be ready for the full-time gig. Now, it seems, that has changed. (Maybe Fox was blown away by Tebow outperforming Aaron Rodgers in Week 5.)

It's go time. (US PRESSWIRE)

"He gave us a spark. That's Tim Tebow," running back Willis McGahee Sunday, via the Denver Post. "Everybody's been cheering for him for the longest, and now he finally got in and came in and moved the ball for us."

For his part, Orton has promised to support Tebow.

"I'm disappointed with everything," he said. "I wish I could have played better. I wish we had a better record. There's a lot of things, but reality is what it is."

More via the AP:
Orton, who's in the final year of his contract, is 6-21 since winning his first six games as Denver's starter. The Broncos tried to trade Orton, who's making $9 million this season, when the lockout ended, but talks with Miami broke down and Fox instead threw open the quarterback competition, something for which Tebow proved ill-prepared.

Stop...Tebow Time?
Orton had worked extensively with teammates in workouts organized by safety Brian Dawkins during the lockout. So had Tebow, but he also spent time pitching products and his autobiography across the country. Orton's and Brady Quinn's offseason workout program paid off when training camp rolled around.

Orton maintained his stranglehold on the starting job and Quinn appeared to win the backup job despite a poor performance in the final preseason game, but Fox said this week that wasn't really the case: Tebow was his No. 2. This despite Tebow showing almost no progress in becoming the pocket passer that Broncos football chief John Elway has said he must become to make it in this league.
After the bye, the Broncos head to Miami to face the Dolphins. It could be a homecoming for Tim Tebow, starting NFL quarterback, who made his name at the University of Florida.

It could also be an opportunity for the Broncos to hand-deliver Orton to the Dolphins, a team desperately in need of a starter after losing Chad Henne for the season.

Tebow is your new Broncos starting QB

Sweet Jesus, what took so long to make this change???

We're sitting at 1-4, if Tebow had been starting all along, we would be 0-5! This is, afterall, the race for Andrew Luck, right? Better late than never!

That's total sarcasm in case anyone didn't notice. BTW, how in the hell does a 4-10 for 79 yards and a TD look 'impressive'? Considering two of the four completions were more a result of the receivers making specatular catches of poorly thrown balls, we're talking about a 20% completion percentage here. Yep, that's DAMN IMPRESSIVE! Give an opposing team a week or more to game plan for Tebow's style of play and let's see what he really amounts to. I'm guessing it won't be much, but I'm also hoping for Andrew Luck, so no surprise there!

Tebow is your new Broncos starting QB

The Broncos had to make a move on this.  Kyle Orton had already lost the fans and press.  At that point unless he was producing he was going to start losing some of the faith his teammates had in him.  That forces the coaches hand at that point.  With him underperforming again go ahead and run Tim Tebow out there.  He will add excitement and leadership and all that great stuff.  But the rah rah let's kick their butt leadership from the QB only goes so far.  Once the defense starts game planning for him there will be some very rough patches for him on the field.  Might as well see how it goes so the Broncos know if they will need to draft another QB.

At the risk of sounding mean, I think that the other guy was implying that that hte defense was doing a pretty good job, I am a little "CONFUZZLED" (confused & puzzled)as to why you would suggest that they need to concentrate on the Defense in the next draft.

He never said that.  Typical anti-Christian statement.

You realize that the Broncos defense was the only reason Tebow had a chance, right?  The defense scored the Broncos' only touchdown until Tebow had came in, the defense forced the fumble that set Tebow's first touchdown up, and the defense is the ones who kept stopping the Chargers in the redzone and not allowing them to score.

If the Broncos offense wasn't so terrible, the defense wouldn't have one of the highest snap counts against them.  Its hard to go out and consistently perform at a high level when you never leave the field.  The defense is much improved and is getting much more pressure on QBs and more stops than they had in the past.  They just can't ever stay off the field after 5-6 and outs, so it makes them look worse.

everything you just said is right on the money, they aren't going to make the playoffs no matter who is QB, but at least he'll
get some experience under his belt, and in the draft they need to concentrate on the defense.

Let Tebrew have his shot, whats the worst that could happen, other than the Dolphins fall behind the Colts in the race to draft Luck?

You do realise that the QB does not make the whole team, right? They may lose 7-9 of the last 11 games but it wouldn't only be Tebow's fault. The Broncos cannot play defense. In my opinion, that is their biggest downfall. Their offense isn't doing much better. Even with McDaniels, one of the best offensive coordinators around, they still couldn't do a whole lot. They have to work a lot on the defensive side of the ball and clearly a lot needs to be done offensively too. A young QB who can toss the ball decently and run like crazy could definitely help the team. The guy needs a chance to show off his skills. Give Tebow the rest of this year and with a full summer of practice, next year he should have everything down. If he ends up sucking, which he may, start fresh and get a new QB.. Easy enough.

Tebow is your new Broncos starting QB

Can you supply the quote and article referencing his alleged statement that "kids are going to burn in he11"? I didnt think so. I'm pretty sure he never said anything close to that other than professing his Faith. Stay on topic.....he may not be ready for the starting job, but at least the Broncos will find out soon.

I agree that is mechanics are all wrong, he is not a prototypical pocket passer, he is too big to be QB, etc... The odds area aginst him but he is a proven winner. My team has a great statistics guy that is great in a pass heavy offense (Romo), but ZERO superbowls. Give the guy a chance.....wasn't it Al Davis that said "just win baby."
