The wreckage of M. Benard's motorcycle accident (AP).

Posted by Josh Katzowitz

Browns defensive end Marcus Benard is a lucky man.

He crashed his motorcycle after practice Monday, and during the accident he was thrown 241 (!) feet through the air after his Can-Am Spyder slammed into a guardrail. Let me repeat: he was thrown 80 yards (!!) through the air (I don’t think even Tim Tebow can throw the ball that far), and all Benard suffered was a broken hand.

He won’t necessarily get off scot-free, though. According to the Associated Press, Benard -- who led the team with 7 ½ sacks last season (he’s got three tackles and a half-sack this year) and is still hospitalized at the Cleveland Clinic -- has been charged with driving under suspension and reckless operation.

Police said Benard was driving north on I-71 when one of Benard’s tires came off the road, and he lost control of his three-wheeler (two in front and one in back). After slamming into the guardrail, his bike continued on for another 687 feet before stopping (the end result is pictured above).

Last year, Benard fainted before practice and had to go to the hospital for a short time, and he later said it was because of the stress caused by the birth of his son.

So, although Benard is in trouble with the law and (I assume) his bike is ruined, today should be one of the best days of Benard’s life. After all, he’ll be alive to face the consequences of his charges, and he’ll be alive to see his young son again.

Some people never lear do they. Some nmes to ponder on Jay Williams and Ben Roethlisberger to name a few. Generally they should not use these even if it is cool as they are all dumb to not use them right. They endanger themselves and also the people who might be caught in their accidents.

Despite charges, Marcus Benard is fortunate

He is a scumbag like the other guy said the guy drives without a drivers license for one. Secondly he puts his life, the life of others and the success of the Browns in jeopardy. On a side note he has several children with several different women one of which he refuse to pay for and she gets money from county services while Marcus is out having a good old time. Who cares if he was undrafted anyway that has nothing to do with him being a good guy or not. Know your facts before you stick up for someone. This guy is a scumbag!

He should also be charged with "riding a 3-wheeler (reverse trike)".

Wow, nice comment prick...I'm sure you'd say that to his face right? Haha....and Marcus isn't a bad guy...Since when did driving too fast under a suspended license make you a scum bag?  He's actually a decent guy who's made himself into a situational type player after going undrafted...I love how you became a member today just to call Marcus Benard a scumbag...you're a loser and that's all you'll ever be.
