UPDATE: We spent all of Wednesday night creating LeBron in Madden, playing with him and recording it. Watch the video here.

The NBA is in a state of lockout sadness that never hit the NFL -- the first two weeks of the NBA season were cancelled by David Stern and no one knows what to do. Well, other than watch football in the mean time. Or, if you're LeBron James, maybe play football.

James hopped on Twitter Tuesday and created quite a stir in discussing the possibility when he asked John Clayton of ESPN when the deadline to sign free agents was.

Pete Carroll then made jokes about how much James would make as an undrafted rookie free agent (it's not much!). LeBron then pointed out that it's more than he makes.

This is true. It's also true that every single NFL team would KILL to get LeBron on their team right now. Not only is he a 6'8", 250-pound athletic freak with great hands, but he would crank the value of that team's tickets through the roof, and merchandise sales would be absurd.

Where would he play? My choice would be tight end, because he's like a lovechild of Antonio Gates and Jimmy Graham, but with better jumping ability and experience playing football. Or something.

He'd be special. It would be fun to watch. But it's probably not happening -- there's like a semi-reasonable chance that LeBron could suffer a career-ending injury playing for a non-guaranteed contract in football, which would likely nullify his current contract with the Heat. And that's just bad business.

There's also the issue of whether the NFL would let him play, as that might be a bit touchy with their compatriots at the NBA. We reached out to get a comment from the league but they hadn't responded at the time of this posting.

LeBron James jokes about jumping to the NFL

I think that "King James" would make one helluva TE in the NFL! We all know that he has the offensive skills for a TE such as running, jumping, and receiving. The question for him would be is: can he also excell in the other skills of being a TE such as blocking. If so,then he would fall into the list of NFL TE's that at one time or another have had some type of basketball experience such as those mention above and we can't forget Tony Gonzalez!CoolSmileCool

No no no! Lebron james would make the best receiver in the nfl. He doesnt have to go across the middle, he doesnt need more than 40-50 receptions a year. He would be a big play threat. Hes taller and jumps higher than calvin johnson. The only person who could possibly guard him or have a slight chance of beating him for a jump ball is calvin johnson even tho i doubt he could. And hes a offensive player. I would love to see an athlete like lebron play football. He would have the wide receiver possition on lock!

LeBron James jokes about jumping to the NFL

Compared to NFL players James isn't even a freak athlete. 6'8" 250lb.... Sounds big in the NBA but guys like Mario Williams and DeMarcus Ware would eat him for break fast. I'd love to see him try to go over the middle of the Ravens defense. Due can't take a hit in the NBA, but somehow these writers think he'd last a down in the NFL.

The only reson he was "good" in HS was because he was 6'8" let's be real here. How many 6'8" guys play HS football? How many of his opponents/teammatesended up playing in the MAC as oppose to an AQ?

LeBron James jokes about jumping to the NFL

Every single defensive player in the NFL would make it their immediate goal to end this panzies career.

These NFL guys obviously have pride, and they're not just gonna let some globalized whiner come into their domain and show them up, even slightly.

Ya the stats say LBJ can play football, but the visual evidence doesn't.  This is the same guy who hits the deck for 5 minutes (real time) when he sprains a finger, or collides with someone 1/3 his size on the bball court.

I would love him to sign with the Jets and have his career ended on the first snap.
