UPDATE: 1:15 p.m. ET. It's official, Brandon Lloyd has been traded to the Rams. The St. Louis Post-Dispatch's Jim Thomas writes that "The Rams gave up a conditional sixth-round pick for Lloyd, who is from Kansas City and played at the University of Illinois. The pick can change to a fifth-rounder depending on the number of catches Lloyd has for the Rams."

Last Tuesday, the Broncos named Tim Tebow their starting quarterback. A few days later, the team was reportedly looking to trade one of its best players, wide receiver Brandon Lloyd. On Monday, Lloyd appears headed to the Rams, the NFL Network's Jason La Canfora reports.

St. Louis, a preseason favorite to win the NFC West and make the playoffs, has started the season 0-5 and quarterback Sam Bradford is without a reliable downfield target. Danny Amendola has battled injuries, and Mike Sims-Walker, signed early in the shortened free-agency period, has struggled with drops and is now on the bench indefinitely. That leaves Brandon Gibson, Danario Alexander, and rookie Greg Salas at wide receiver, as well as rookie tight end Lance Kendricks, as possible options for Bradford.

Not the ideal situation for a team that has a franchise QB at its disposal but no real pass-catching threats to speak of. Which explains the organization's interest in Lloyd.

A season ago, Lloyd caught 77 passes for 1,448 yards and 11 touchdowns. He credited much of his success to Kyle Orton, who now has to tell people that he's Tebow's backup. Lloyd is making $1.395 million this season, which is a bargain based on his 2010 production. No word on if the Rams will offer him an extension, or what the Broncos will get in return for Lloyd (they were looking for anywhere from a third- to a fifth-rounder).

For now, Lloyd appears headed for a reunion with Josh McDaniels, his former coach in Denver who is now the offensive coordinator in St. Louis. We warned last week that it took Lloyd seven seasons and four teams before he became a breakout player. And while he doesn't need a Hall of Fame quarterback to have success, he does need to be in a system that fits his talents. For all his shortcomings, Josh McDaniels got the most out of Lloyd, and it makes sense that the two will team up again.

Whether it'll be enough to save the Rams' season seems like a longshot, but assuming the plan is to lock up Lloyd beyond this season, it could give Bradford a go-to receiver for the foreseeable future. It's a start.

Lloyd is in his ninth season, but has only one excellent year, last year, when he caught 30% of his career receptions and had 35% of his career yards. That was his outlier season, other than 2010, he's been an average WR at best. He wasn't going to be better with Tebow at QB. Lloyd also has an expiring contract after this year and he is going to want more money/season in his next deal which doesn't make sense based on his career, his age, and the Broncos situation. Plus, the Broncos need to find out if Demaryius Thomas is any good (if healthy) or just another poor draft pick by McDaniels. Interesting move by the Rams who have OC "genius" Josh McD leading them to the worst scoring team by a long shot in the NFL.
Since: Dec 2, 2008	Posted on: October 17, 2011 2:10 pm Broncos trade Brandon Lloyd to Rams Three days ago on the discussion about Lloyd I predicted that the Broncos shouldn't receive anything higher than a fifth round pick for Lloyd based on his history. Well that appears to be the case now. I now have slightly higher hopes for my third receiver in two fantasy leagues, but virtually no hope now that my Vikings will get anything of value for Bernard Berrian. Maybe a seventh round pick, but I assume that they will just release the has-been now that the market has been somewhat set with the Lloyd trade.

He was to small and was a NBA player which he was for the Knicks. Try again!! The only way he was going to play in the NFL was if he got drafted in the 1st round in which he wasnt drafted at all. Not exactly the best comparison but a good point. Maybe use Tim Couch, Ryan Leaf, Cade McKnown, or Vince Young. As far as drafting into the system. That is one way to go. Another is to adjust the system based on the players and talents you have. Mike Martz is finally learning how to adjust his system to his players. There is too much changing of coaches and systems to draft players into systems. Systems need to be modified and not forced on players that don't have the "perfect" skill set for the system. I would argue it wasn't the RBs in the Devner system that made the system go as much as it was the athletic linemen that opened the holes. Go Bears!

We have seen what has happened to QB's that were good in college that didn't pan out in the pros. Where is Charlie Ward? Same caliber of QB, but probably had more to offer. In regards to McDaniels, he even sat Tebow. I believe that players should be drafted for the right system, i.e. Shanahan's running backs while with the Broncos. Brandon Lloyd will do well in the McDaniels' system, that is the type of receiver that works for it. Look at what Moss did in the Raider organization. People are a product for their respective teams. Tebow is not in a college style offense, and there is no way to get the ball to the likes of Lloyd. He is not a touch passer, just a "Raw Raw" QB. This isn't a league that will reward that. He may be fun to watch, but that doesn't win games. Long time reader, first time commenter on the Tebow situation. I am also a HUGE Bronco fan, by size and stature. Go Broncos! "Luck" be ours in getting the #1 pick...

John Fox and Elway need draft picks to shore up the team and my Rams need a playmaker not named Jackson. Lloyd will bring a weapon into the receiving game that is much needed. Along with Justin Blackmon,(That better be there pick next year) then we will be in great shape to compete.

Welcome to the parade of coaches who move to Colorado, trade all of our good players and then move on in a year or two! You can now be listed among the likes of Josh McDaniels who chased every player worth a nickel out of town. What a joy it is to watch crap every Sunday, instead of watching an offense with Jay Cutler throwing to Brandon Lloyd, Brandon Marshall, Eric Decker and Tony Scheffler with Payton Hillis and Ryan Torain in the backfield. But, really, who wants all those All Pro caliber players when we can win a couple games a year without them? Thanks Josh and John! Since starting 6 and 0 in 2009, the Broncos have gone 7 and 24. That's awesome! John, you are the only person in Colorado who wanted Orton as the starting QB. Every person in the state could see what an absolute thrill it is to watch Tebow, but you made us suffer for 5 weeks watching crap. Now, we get to watch Tebow and you saddle him by trading his best receiver? Do you hate offense? Seriously? Do you? Thanks for bringing your 1 and 15 record to the Denver area. Here's hoping you can take that act to another town next year.
