Eagles trade Ronnie Brown for Jerome Harrison

The Eagles continued their streak of trading for Jerome Harrison at the NFL's trade deadline (two years is a streak, right?), acquiring the running back and an undisclosed draft pick from the Lions on Tuesday in exchange for running back Ronnie Brown, the team announced.

Last year around this time, the Eagles acquired Harrison from Cleveland in exchange for Mike Bell.

In eight games with the Eagles last year, Harrison averaged 29.9 yards per game on five carries and scored once. Brown to this point has averaged 6.3 yards per game and posted one of the worst turnovers in the history of the NFL when he tried to lateral the ball from the one-yard line to Michael Vick as he was falling to the ground.

Good news for the Lions, then: Brown will be getting some decent carries because of the concussion that Jahvid Best is currently dealing with, and will likely serve as the team's goal line back even when Best returns to the lineup.

Actually, Brown can make a difference for the Lions, as he's the type of between-the-tackles power runner that the Lions could use. His style never really worked with what Andy Reid wanted to run in Philadelphia.

Don't expect Harrison to make much more of an impact in Philly than he did last year however. But the Eagles feel like they basically swapped out a similar player (in their system anyway) and picked up a draft pick, which is a win for them as well.

Good trade for my Lions. Mikel LeShoure out with achillies injury for whole season after being drafted 2nd left void of big back to pound the rock.

Ronnie Brown should be excited, he could play a key part in a playoff team run.

Best concussions and other injures in short career disturbing.

Still missing Scheffler out too with a concussion double threat at TE with Petigrew.

Harrison was too similar to Best.  Detroit needs someone to pound the ball up the middle.  I have never payed much to Brown.  Size is good for a between the tackles runner.  Hope it works.

It doesn't matter anyway. The eagles sack they would use if McCoy went down is going to be Dion Lewis either way, and now Harrison will split carries.

Eagles pinching pennies again.  I guess the price of gold went down this week.
It all goes back to the "gold standard" thing, huh?

This seems like a lateral move, which if no one has noticed, both players suck at doing that.  Ironic.

Hopefully Ronnie Brown is that guy......
Good luck with him.  All I know is, he his horrible at the fake run up the middle turn around and throw to your blocking tight end play.

I am not doing cartwheels over the trade, but Ronnie Brown is better than anything we have to put out there now.  Can't hurt -- Jerome Harrison was worthless to the Lions anyways.

If he can do anything for us -- it is a win for the Lions.  If Best is out -- we needed someone who could step in and handle 10-15 carries a game.  I haven't watched Ronnie Brown too much, so it'll be interesting to see how he does with Detroit.

What????  So, what you're saying is that the Lions should bench Javid Best for the rest of the season (for no reason)????????????  Yeah, that makes sense.

I don't know who initiated this trade.  It makes sense for both teams, but it seem the Lions need Brown more than the Eagles need Harrison.  Best is a concussion machine, and if the Lions and Best were smart he would sit out the rest of the year.
