Boller benched; Carson Palmer inserted

C. Palmer made his Oakland debut (US Presswire).

Down two touchdowns, the Raiders decided they should give starting quarterback Kyle Boller one last chance to make an impression after halftime. But following a three-and-out that lasted less than a minute into the third quarter, Hue Jackson made his move.

After Chiefs cornerback Javier Arenas scored a rushing touchdown to gave the Chiefs a 21-point lead, Jackson inserted newly-acquired Carson Palmer to see if he could lift the team (we already told you that Jackson plans to start Palmer in two weeks).

Boller went 7 for 14 for 61 yards and three interceptions, so it was doubtful that Palmer would perform much worse. And on the first play, he nailed Darrius Heyward-Bey for an 18-yard gain, and he had to shake off a personal foul penalty on Chiefs linebacker Tamba Hali after Hali went at his knees. It was certainly a positive first play on his first series.

He handed off a couple times, but on his other two passing attempts, an out route to Heyward-Bey and a screen pass, Palmer looked rusty. Those two passes fell incomplete, and though the Raiders went for it on fourth and eight, a false start penalty forced them to punt.

Still, Palmer, in those few plays, looked better than Boller. And maybe the Raiders can have some hope for the first time since Jason Campbell’s injury.

UPDATED 8:24 p.m. ET: It did not go well for Palmer, who threw three interceptions on the day.

We are laughing here in Cincy, we have seen that act enough. We usually got 3 picks a game, you guys get 3 in one half. And by the way, he is famous for pick 6.....get used to it raider fans. Thank god for Andy Dalton. Put Pryor in, at least he can run

Did anyone really expected him to produce just three days after being traded??? Common guys, he had better performance after being in the Raiders system three days than the guy who was with the team for more than two months. I don't know if he pans out or not, and yes the price Raiders paid for him is way too steep, but judging if Palmer turns out into anything is way too early. Personally, I believe that once he gets acquainted with the system and will have healthy DMAC, he will do just fine...

Putting Palmer in to get his feet wet after having what... 3 days to learn the system? Not a good idea. It was apparent that he was rusty, had no timing with his recievers, and was without his main man, DMAC. He was destined to fail. I still think that after having two more weeks to learn and practice timing, he will be fine. I felt sorry for him.

He should return every penny he has made this year. Retire now and never open his mouth about anything again.

Could not happen to a more deserving guy. Whinning like a baby that you don't want to play in Cincy where you are making millions. Leaving your team hanging because of your selfishness. What a load of crap Carson. You deserve this. You were never that good. Karma!!!! Carson Palmer is the worst of the NFL in many ways. He'll turn a winning team into a loser before the season is over, then demand to be traded.

Don't worry Raiders fan -- as one of your faithful told me in another thread, you picked your real franchise quarterback in the supplemental draft (Terrell Pryor)  OMG -- i can't even type that without laughing.  Palmer was picked up while they develop Pryor.  LOL.

Priceless some of the stupidity you read on these boards.

LOL at all the raider fans who didn't think they got completely ripped off in the trade and this was the ONE piece that could make the bottom dwelling raiders complete.   Have fun giving up your next two #1 draft picks away for this guy.  Good for the bengals their fans have suffered enough..bad for my steelers because the bengals will be competitiv earlier as the bengals have ripled off the completely clueless stupid raiders.  In memory of al davis that trade was done.
