Chargers say refs didn't call fair game

Q. Jammer blamed the officials in San Diego's loss (US Presswire).Posted by Josh Katzowitz

You can forgive fans (well, almost forgive them) for complaining about referees and thinking (no, truly believing) that the officials are out to screw over their teams for whatever reason. Maybe players think that way too, but it’s uncommon to hear a player emote the things that Chargers cornerback Quentin Jammer said after the Jets 27-21 victory against San Diego.

"I don't have to say anything about what the refs did -- everyone saw how the calls went," Jammer said, via the New York Post.

Then, of course, Jammer went on to say many things about what the refs did, especially when he was asked if the officiating was consistent.

“Yeah -- consistently bad,” he said. “No way it was called fairly. No way. Not at all. It wasn't called fairly at all. Maybe I'm being biased, but I'm just judging off what I saw. It wasn't a fair game called."

Well, yeah. Jammer is biased. His team lost a game it felt it should have won. Quarterback Philip Rivers and the offense did nothing in a 2-minute drill at the end of the game, and the Chargers fell to a Jets team that managed to score its biggest win of the season.

Jammer made the point that the Chargers had zero penalties called on them in their previous game, but then got nailed 13 times for 95 yards vs. the Jets, who were penalized eight times for 60 yards.

"How does a team just get sloppy like that the very next game?" he said. "The answer is, it doesn't."

Well, that’s ludicrous. Every team has the ability to get sloppy. Look at the Ravens, who are 4-1 and one of the favorites in the AFC but looked terrible in Week 2 against the Titans. With the exception of the Packers, teams can look great one week and crappy the next (it’s called parity, baby, and the NFL loves it!). Teams can avoid penalization one week and get tagged with 13 the next game.

Is that so difficult to believe, especially when five of those flags were for either offside or neutral zone infractions, a penalty that’s tough to dispute? Apparently so. Therefore, the officials get placed in the crosshairs.

“They were bad,” safety Eric Weddle said. “Really bad.”

Jammer states the obvious and people call him out? If you saw the game and disagree with him, you need to get those rose-colored glasses off and see real life.

I'd like to know who gave you a score of 163? For what? All you said was teams do get sloppy. Wow! More at 11:00. Everybody in world knows that the NY teams get a lot of calls at home. Is Jammer whining? Probably. Is he absolutely wrong? I don't think so. I don't have a dog in this fight ( Being a Packer fan), but the NFL really needs to get younger, fulltime Refs. Watching these 50-55 year old guys trying to keep up with the best athletes in the world, is laughable.

Chargers say refs didn't call fair game

<span style="color: #000000;">Why is a Dolphins fan getting so upset about someone else saying the Jets won't make the playoffs? Seems a little fishy. Kind of like the Jets vs. Charges officiating yesterday.. Oh right, that's what this whole article was about!

I didn't watch the game closely, but I must say, that pass interference called on the Chargers  toward the back end of the game was real bad. I can understand Charger players' frustrations.

Nice excuse. If you want to point the finger start with Rivers. You can also give some credit to the Jets defense.

Really ! they look a mess both on off and def, sanchez doesnt look comfortable and the def looks slow up front. And no i dont think Det will make the playoffs and doubt the bills will continue playing that well but they both are playing as well as the jets.

Really u say Jets wont make the playoffs?? Are u kidding me, i bet u also think the Bills will have a winning record at the end of the year. Jets will make the playoffs easily but lose in the playoffs like always, and this is coming from a Dolphins fan.  To those who think that the Bills and Lions are gonna make the playoffs just go back to 2 yrs ago when the Broncos started 7-1, and Orton was talk of MVP and Mcdaniels was the greatest coach ever, well they won 1 game the rest of the way and well Mcdaniels got canned. Sick of these writers who jump on the banwagon when a shitty teams goes 4-0.

The main reason is so good is because he is one of the few cornerbacks in the NFL that is allowed to hold the receivers and run threw them! Doesnt matter tho the JETS wont make the playoffs anyway.

His reasoning and examples prove he's wrong. 8-13 for home v away is not that big of a difference first of all...there are tons more lopsided games than that...secondly, a team can DEFINITELY go from 0-13 penalties between weeks. I think GB had something like 18 one game last year and I dont know what they had the next game, but it wasn't 18 for sure...nor was it 18 the week before....

My Biggest pet peeve? "I'm not gonna talk about/no offense/I'm not gonna say (insert whatever you are about to talk about, offend, or say)"...makes ya sound like more of a dumb than you already are.

Chargers say refs didn't call fair game

If the refs were pro New York they would not have called holding and taken a Jet touchdown off the board.  At that point the Jets had fought back from that gift of a touchdown on the first drive of the game and taken a lead, but the refs took the points off the board and before you know it, the Jets were down 14-3 instead of up 10-7.

Holmes was hit way early on another key play while the Jets were down with no call, and they had to punt.  The left end of the Chargers looked offsides on every play (only slight exaggeration) and I wasn't the only one who noticed it.  I was wondering when they would finally call off sides or NZI.  You can argue it both ways, but the fans certainly thought the Jets were the ones being screwed until the 4th quarter.  For the Sanchez play, I was surprised it was called a first down, but I sit on the opposite end of the field and just thought at the time I didn't have a good view.  Besides, it really didn't have any impact, the Jets only ran another 20 seconds off the clock before kicking the field goal.

The biggest problem with the 2 minute drill was Rivers throwing the ball where the receivers had no shot at running out of bounds, and then running about 20 seconds off between plays traying to call plays at the line.  The Chargers looked utterly confused each time they tried to line up and run a play during their 2 minute drive attempt.
