Chargers say refs didn't call fair game

Q. Jammer blamed the officials in San Diego's loss (US Presswire).Posted by Josh Katzowitz

You can forgive fans (well, almost forgive them) for complaining about referees and thinking (no, truly believing) that the officials are out to screw over their teams for whatever reason. Maybe players think that way too, but it’s uncommon to hear a player emote the things that Chargers cornerback Quentin Jammer said after the Jets 27-21 victory against San Diego.

"I don't have to say anything about what the refs did -- everyone saw how the calls went," Jammer said, via the New York Post.

Then, of course, Jammer went on to say many things about what the refs did, especially when he was asked if the officiating was consistent.

“Yeah -- consistently bad,” he said. “No way it was called fairly. No way. Not at all. It wasn't called fairly at all. Maybe I'm being biased, but I'm just judging off what I saw. It wasn't a fair game called."

Well, yeah. Jammer is biased. His team lost a game it felt it should have won. Quarterback Philip Rivers and the offense did nothing in a 2-minute drill at the end of the game, and the Chargers fell to a Jets team that managed to score its biggest win of the season.

Jammer made the point that the Chargers had zero penalties called on them in their previous game, but then got nailed 13 times for 95 yards vs. the Jets, who were penalized eight times for 60 yards.

"How does a team just get sloppy like that the very next game?" he said. "The answer is, it doesn't."

Well, that’s ludicrous. Every team has the ability to get sloppy. Look at the Ravens, who are 4-1 and one of the favorites in the AFC but looked terrible in Week 2 against the Titans. With the exception of the Packers, teams can look great one week and crappy the next (it’s called parity, baby, and the NFL loves it!). Teams can avoid penalization one week and get tagged with 13 the next game.

Is that so difficult to believe, especially when five of those flags were for either offside or neutral zone infractions, a penalty that’s tough to dispute? Apparently so. Therefore, the officials get placed in the crosshairs.

“They were bad,” safety Eric Weddle said. “Really bad.”

FYI, Rex won a wing with the Ravens in 2000. Revis has already surpassed the slow and aging Woodson, who was one of the best in his prime, today can be the downfall if left alone with a Desean Jackson or Mike Wallace. Not impressed by ESPN giving Gruden a 5-yr contract, like you said, guy has a ring and now has a job because of it. Just riding through life on the coattails of an excellent Bucs team. Do you respect Mike Ditka just cuz he has a job with FOX or Pete Prisco just becuz they let him write on CBS? And, to further educate you Captain my captain, the Bills play Washington next week, and WE will be resting the next week before facing the Bills. Revis will shut down Johnson, Fitzgerald will be shut down, and the Greene will run all over the lousy Bills D. Seriously, you guys are 7-0 just stick to talking about the Pack

I didn't watch this game but I do agree with the comment about Revis. He gets away with so much more than any CB in the league. Last Monday on his TD, bit time pass interference. In the long run it doesn't really matter they are the 3rd best team in there division behind N.E. and the Bills.

Funny how Jet fan, after a victory, talks about not being a whiner...what?  Go back to last week's posts!  Jet fan:"bad calls, refs suck"  the reality of the situation is that BOTH teams suck and they just can't admit it to themselves!  Personally, I would enjoy a Playoffs without BOTH teams!

Ya, A overrated coach who has a Super Bowl ring unlike ur coach.. I don't think Revis interferred with Marshall as he was falling down..Just think, He'll never be better than #21!!!!!!I think he does a great job in the booth and ESPN gave him a 5 yr contract...That says enough.. Don't worry, ya have a well rested Bills team coming to kick ur teeth in!!!!!!!!

I do believe Holmes had a TD brought back on a flag too. The door swings both ways, watch out. Don't blame the refs because your team killing coach can't get you in the right spot.

What I never understand is why the refs always let Revis use his hands n hold past 5 yards and someone else does it and it's a penalty???I understand the respect thing but not that much!!!!The J_E_T_S have got to be the Luckiest team in the last 2 years.I do think that they are a good team but no way a great team!!!I don't believe that they will see a Super Bowl soon until they get a QB who will take em there. That being said.......IT IS GREAT TO BE 7-0... aNY OTHER LOSERS OUT THERE WANNA SAY THAT WE WERE A fluke LAST YEAR WITH 15 ON THE IR???Thought not....I guess between the Drean Team and Rexy, they just gonna have to play the SB on paper!!!!!!!!

Great post , unselfish. I love the Bolts but you're right - the offence sleepwalked the second half and that "two minute drill" at the end was laughable. There's a prima donna attitude creeping into the team and it's worrying - they didn't play out the victory but assumed the Jets were broken and would hand it to them.
