Bush stands by 'We stink' comment

Bush, BellPosted by Josh Katzowitz

Even on a new team in a new city, Reggie Bush can’t stop making himself the center of controversy. So, when he said after the Dolphins got Tebowed on Sunday, “This team stinks,” some of the members of that team took offense.

As’s Ryan Wilson wrote on Thursday, Miami cornerback Yeremiah Bell blasted Bush right away.

“He stinks,” Bell said. “That shouldn’t be said around this locker room. We know that we’re 0-6 and we’re not playing the best but at the same time there’s no need for that.”

With the chance to reconsider his choice of words, though, Bush didn’t back down on his original thoughts. The team does stink, Bush says, and like Bell says, so does he.

"I still stand by it, because there's nothing fun about 0-6," Bush said Thursday, via the Palm Beach Post. "And there's no room for sensitivity in this league. This is a man's game, we all signed on the dotted line. Whatever we've been doing is not good enough at this point."

Bell, meanwhile, tried to walk back his statement, saying he had been taken out of context*. He also thought Bush had been taken out of context as well. Bush disagreed.

*Though, when a dude says about a teammate, “He stinks!” in which other context can he possibly speaking?

"What else would I mean?" Bush said. "I do stink. We all stink. When it comes to 0-6, everybody stinks. We've all, in some way, shape or form have not been good enough, and that's what I meant with those comments.

"I don't care if it's the front-desk secretary -- she ain't doing a good enough job.”

The front-desk secretary could not be reached for comment, but I imagine he or she would say, “Bush? Well, he kinda sucks.”

More from Bush: "It's time for a little gut check. Do we want to continue to lose games and kind of be the laughingstock of the league for the rest of the year? Or do we want to turn this thing around?"

Honestly, laughingstock seems to be working pretty well (or, at least, providing good fodder for us NFL bloggers). I say, stick with that.

Bush didn't help the Saints win the Superbowl.  He just happened to be there and played a little bit.  Brees and the Saints defense won that game with very little help from Bush.  Not to mention Peyton Manning did more to help the Saints than Bush did.

Since Payton Manning.  1st overall picks:
Quarterback Cleveland Browns
Defensive end Penn State Cleveland Browns
Quarterback Virginia Tech Atlanta Falcons
Quarterback USC Cincinnati Bengals
Quarterback (traded to the New York Giants)
Quarterback San Francisco 49ers
Defensive end Houston Texans
Quarterback LSU
Offensive Tackle Michigan
Quarterback Georgia
Quarterback Oklahoma
Quarterback Auburn

I'd take bush over quiet a few of those (Couch, Carr, Smith, Russell) and he did help win a superbowl.  But yes still never lived up to his hype.  Last RB taken #1 JiJana Carter and last other #2 was Ronnie Brown.  Bush not great but far from biggest bust ever in NFL.  Leaf taken #2 in Manning draft and Russell pretty high on list.

Not much room left for Bush in the NFL either.  The only thing keeping him from being the biggest bust in NFL history is Jamarcus Russell.  When you get drafted 2nd overall, and everyone calls the Texans idiots, you should be carrying a team on your shoulders.  You should be a team leader, but you are a 3rd down back at best.  I will say congrats on cashing in though.  You made alot of money, I truely hope you put some away for retirement.

Bush is're 0-6...they all stink.  If they are ever going to improve, they have to accept responsibility.  The old cliche is "you win as a team, you lose as a team."  It's true.  Until that team comes together, they won't get better.  Until the front office accepts responsibility for having no clue how the NFL draft is supposed to work, they will not win.  And the coaching staff?  Short term fixes to try to stay employed?  Only looking out for themselves?  LET IT FLY!  You have nothing to lose!  Open things up on offense!  If you are gonna go down, don't go down being the dullest team in the league.  You will never be remembered that way.  The owner?  Ross needs to hire a coach and let Sparano go now.  He can't be peaking through the back doors of a coaching search while giving the kiss of death endorsement to his current coach.  NO ONE in this organization is singing from the same hymnal.  Bush is right, they all stink, from top to bottom.  Including him!!!

Who cares what the front-desk secretary would have to say. He was just making a point. He has been with a winning program his whole life and is frustrated in the situation he his in. But he signed there. He needs to keep his mouth shut and start playing with some verocity. Set a leadership tone. But we know that will not happen

Sorry, she was in my office.  She's back at her desk now.  Just give her a minute to collect herself and she'll be ready to answer the phone.

Spend less time doing Pizza comercials and run the damn ball...what a sad season. Coaching is horrific and it translates to what I see on the field.

Maybe he was just complaining about the body odour. It does get quite hot and sultry in Miami.
