Lions fans don't want to see or hear Nickelback

While we all can have our own tastes in music and individually decide whether certain groups should be playing at certain halftime shows*, I think we all can agree on one indisputable fact.

Nickelback should never be allowed to play anything anywhere.

*For instance, I ripped the selection of the Black Eyed Peas to play the halftime of last season’s Super Bowl, and in turn, I was ripped in the comments section.

And that’s exactly why a dude named Dennis Guttman has put together an online petition that begs asks the Lions to not employ the Canadian rock band to play the halftime show of the Nov. 24 Thanksgiving game against the Packers.

In the petition, Guttman writes, “Detroit is home to so many great musicians and they chose Nickelback?!?!?! Does anyone even like Nickelback? Is this some sort of ploy to get people to leave their seats during halftime to spend money on alcoholic beverages and concessions? This is completely unfair to those of us who purchased tickets to the game. At least the people watching at home can mute their TVs.”

Or as another signer put it, “I don't want to be sitting around with my family and have to listen to even more annoying people.”

And really, how fair is this selection to Lions fans? For heaven's sake, they're still getting over the loss of the Booty Lounge. Haven't these people suffered enough?!?

Really, the only thing that could make the Nickelback selection somewhat palatable is if the band brought in Slash to play guitar. Or maybe not. Even using him in what turned out to be an underwhelming cameo, the Black Eyed Peas still managed to ruin halftime at the Super Bowl.

Has anyone ever watched or listened to a band or musician that was so terrible that you watched or listened in amazement that they could achieve any amount of success what so ever? Thats what I think of Nickelback. They are so bad that I would watch them during halftime. Without a doubt the worst band in the last 10 years. That dude writes some of the worst lyrics I've ever heard. But everytime I flip through the radio stations either local or Sirius, Nickelback is playing. How is that possible? Maybe people listen because they are so bad.

Nickelback is a solid band, has some great music and can sing.
You just lost all credibility. All their songs sound alike because they are too stupid to write new ones, and Chad's voice sounds like Kurt Cobain if he smoke cigarettes for 50 years.

Was Creed booked? How about the Bahama Men or Phil Collins? (all sarcasm people) Why is it so hard to find musical talent for these things and why is it necessary? Bring in the local highschool band. It would mean more to them and the local community it lives in than some shitty Canadian "kit" band.

Worst "band" ever and is the at the pinnacle of bad pop music. Whoever supports this band has a serious case of bad taste. Unforgiveably bad.

They are called Nickelback because if you paid 5 cents to see them live, you would want your Nickelback!  Disgrace to real rock!

I got an Idea.... go down to the graveyard...Turn right.  Go in and find a MOTOWN Star and see if the heart is still beating.  Most of your MOTOWN superstars are on their last leg and heading for the graveyard.

Didn't they do Kid Rock lately?  Eminem might work.  Providing he doesn't cuss out the fan base for doing something to him.

Dennis Guttman??  Who is he?  Nickelback is a solid band, has some great music and can sing.  Guttman should go back to his GUTTER and stop whining.

I know it is hard to believe but MUSIC doesn't just come out of MOTOWN.

Look, I've never been a fan of Nickelback.  And that new pseudo-goatee and preppy haircut make him look like the poster child for douchebaggery.  But the last 10 Super Bowls (the supposed pinnacle of half-time shows) have included Justin Timberlake, Prince, The Who, a train-wreck performance by the Black Eyed Peas, and the fossilized remains of Paul McCartney.  So yeah... it could be worse.

Maybe they are just trying to force everyone to leave their seats at half time, in the hopes that they will go buy more beer and hot dogs.

I would rather hear Gene doing Detroit Rock City with Eric Hipple, Scott Mitchell, Gary Danielson, and Erik Kramer on back-up vocals.

Listen to the songs Someday and How You Remind Me at the same time (there's a video on youtube).
Both quality songs.
