Adam Sandler's a pretty big Jets fan. So big, in fact, that during the offseason Rex Ryan reportedly had Sandler ring up free agent Nnamdi Asomugha to try and persuade the cornerback to join Gang Green. The move didn't work, so there stood some reason to question the kind of pull Sandler has.
But after hearing that Sandler got Ryan to play a -- gasp -- Patriots fan in an upcoming movie, question his pull no longer.
"He's in the next [movie]" Sandler said Thursday on the Rich Eisen Podcast. "I don't even know the title of my next one, but he's in it. He's my lawyer -- my character in the next one is kind of a dirtbag guy and he's in trouble. Rex is an inexpensive lawyer in town and he takes care of me.
"He's also a mammoth Patriots fan."
The crazy part is, Sandler says that the idea of having Rex as a Pats fan was written into the script when the Jets coach approved it. So, I suppose, Ryan does have a pretty good sense of humor. (Or he's secretly clowning Pats fans. Which is humorous too.)
Eisen also asked Sandler about the Nnamdi call, which the actor says he doesn't "think" happened.
"I don't think I would have been the go-to guy for that," Sandler joked.
That's the same thing I thought at the time. But that was before I knew Sandler convinced Ryan to play a Patriots fan. Because if he could do that, I'm pretty sure he could have convinced Nnamdi to sign anywhere. Even, like, with the Dolphins.
