Romo can't compete with Tebow when it comes to being overrated. (Getty Images)

Finally, some good news for Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo, who three or four times a season gives his detractors ammunition in their never-ending crusade to convince the rest of us that he's an overhyped choker. The Sporting News interviewed 11 NFL players from 31 teams and asked a simple question: Who's the most overrated player in the NFL?

It wasn't Romo.

Broncos quarterback Tim Tebow won the honors, although just barely. He received 22 votes, just one more than -- wait for it -- Romo. Jets quarterback Mark Sanchez was third. Of the 17 players to receive at least two votes, seven were quarterbacks.

1. Denver Broncos QB Tim Tebow—22
2. Dallas Cowboys QB Tony Romo—21
3. New York Jets QB Mark Sanchez—9
4. Detroit Lions DT Ndamukong Suh—6
5. Tennessee Titans RB Chris Johnson—5
6. New England Patriots WR Chad Ochocinco—5
7. New England Patriots QB Tom Brady—3
8. Arizona Cardinals QB Kevin Kolb—3
9. San Diego Chargers QB Philip Rivers—3
10. Arizona Cardinals DL Darnell Dockett—2

The rest: Jacksonville Jaguars RB Maurice Jones-Drew—2, Washington Redskins CB DeAngelo Hall—2, New York Giants QB Eli Manning—2, Miami Dolphins WR Brandon Marshall—2, New York Jets CB Darrelle Revis—2, New York Jets LB Bart Scott—2, Chicago Bears LB Brian Urlacher—2.

(Note: Jason Hill voted for Revis … twice, right?)

The Sporting News asked a few players for some context on the leading vote-getters. Jaguars defensive tackle Terrance Knighton echoed many of the sentiments we hear from Romo's critics.

“I just think he’s in a position where he has the spotlight," he said. "I don’t think he’s really done anything to be in the spotlight. But being a Dallas Cowboys quarterback, you’re going to have that. I don’t think he does enough to be considered one of the elite (quarterbacks) in the NFL.”

Knight's teammate, Jeremy Mincey, had similar thoughts about Sanchez.

"Everybody talks about Sanchez, but I just don’t see what everybody is talking about. Maybe it’s the (New York) market that he’s in."

We would include the quotes from two anonymous players on Tebow but why? You can do the Mad Libs yourself: "He's not an NFL quarterback, he's a fullback. Not only his he inaccurate, he has a week arm. The media saturation is unbearable. We hate Tebowing with a passion." So on and so forth...

Upside: Tebow is first at something.

Idiot I see u know NOTHING about the game!!.....same 11-5 Cassel team was the one that went 16-0 on regular season with Brady the year before, Did u ever see the schelude that Cassel have that year?? Brady would have gone 16-0 again!!!! That season was so ridiculos that Pats didnt even make the playoff being 11-5!!!!!!! 10-6 next year Brady made the playoff!!.. 3 superbowls in 4 years, 2 MVP's!!! one of the them being the first EVER UNANIMOUS MVP IN HISTORY!!  record of 50 touchdowns in a season... I made my argument now you tell me IDIOT!! why is he overrated??

Tebow voted 'most overrated' by NFL players

By the way, those stats sound good considering he won all three times.. Doesnt matter how you do it, its the fact that you do. Lets say he threw 10 picks and 5 touchdowns but each one of those TD's were for the game.. Is he still overrated? Have you ever factored that maybe, just MAYBE.. The teams hes playing against are, oh idk good?

The teams he has beat are not that good. He beat Houston last year, they ended the season 6-10. This year he has beat the Dolphins, they are up for the Andrew Luck sweepstakes, and the Raiders in Carson Palmers first start. Not exactly playoff teams, just sayin'.

One things though just to throw this out there, Darrelle Revis is defintely overrated due to the fact that he is the dirtest player EVER and aside from the fact that he has the right to grab wide recievers, whats so great about him?

Dirtiest player ever??? I dont know about all that, I would love to see Revis rocking a Lions jersey. He is the best CB in the league, year in and year out. The fact that him and Suh are on this list makes the list a joke in my eyes.

Tebow isnt exactly overrated, overhyped.. yes. Suh up there really is a ****ing joke because last time i checked, tell me one team that wouldnt want him on there team? As for Romo, hes having a bad year although i never thought he was great, I never actually hear anything about Sanchez soooo.. how is he overrated? As for players like Eli Manning *aside from last week* what has this guy done thats so amazing. For some reaon Tom Brady is on this list and he practiacally won the 3 superbowls on his own and is technically winning each game this year on his own considering his teams defense is horrible. If anything Chris Johnson should be number one on this list, look at his stats for this year, HE SUCKS.. Vick has had a bad year as well but there is some questionable stuff based on the roughing the passer stuff but hey we dont play in the NFL so i guess they see whos better in the game.

Tebow voted 'most overrated' by NFL players

What a joke. You know why he was voted as the most overated? Because the pre-dominantly black NFL players CANT STAND the attention Tebow gets from the pre-dominantly white media and the pre-dominantly white fanbases.

Yet Tebow is 3-2 as a starter. They cant deny that. What about Blaine Gabbert NFL players? What's HIS record as a starter huh? Oh, is Cam Newton 2-6? Well then I say hes the most overated because he was drafted #1 overall.

All Tebow does is win. Even when the team he's on is garbage and the coach he has hates his guts. You watch. Tebow's already brought his team back in contention for the AFC West crown and a trip to the playoffs. It makes me sick to hear all the critisisim of Tebow from the players and the media when it is almost all completely based upon his personal make-up.

Sometimes I think over-publicized" is a better word than overrated. I'm not a Tebow fan, but something in me wants him to succeed just to shut eevrybody up.

Funny.  I think at least 75% of the people that want him to FAIL want that so that they won't have to hear about him any more.  Him succeeding just prolongs the agonizing "over-publicizing" of Tebow.
