Romo can't compete with Tebow when it comes to being overrated. (Getty Images)

Finally, some good news for Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo, who three or four times a season gives his detractors ammunition in their never-ending crusade to convince the rest of us that he's an overhyped choker. The Sporting News interviewed 11 NFL players from 31 teams and asked a simple question: Who's the most overrated player in the NFL?

It wasn't Romo.

Broncos quarterback Tim Tebow won the honors, although just barely. He received 22 votes, just one more than -- wait for it -- Romo. Jets quarterback Mark Sanchez was third. Of the 17 players to receive at least two votes, seven were quarterbacks.

1. Denver Broncos QB Tim Tebow—22
2. Dallas Cowboys QB Tony Romo—21
3. New York Jets QB Mark Sanchez—9
4. Detroit Lions DT Ndamukong Suh—6
5. Tennessee Titans RB Chris Johnson—5
6. New England Patriots WR Chad Ochocinco—5
7. New England Patriots QB Tom Brady—3
8. Arizona Cardinals QB Kevin Kolb—3
9. San Diego Chargers QB Philip Rivers—3
10. Arizona Cardinals DL Darnell Dockett—2

The rest: Jacksonville Jaguars RB Maurice Jones-Drew—2, Washington Redskins CB DeAngelo Hall—2, New York Giants QB Eli Manning—2, Miami Dolphins WR Brandon Marshall—2, New York Jets CB Darrelle Revis—2, New York Jets LB Bart Scott—2, Chicago Bears LB Brian Urlacher—2.

(Note: Jason Hill voted for Revis … twice, right?)

The Sporting News asked a few players for some context on the leading vote-getters. Jaguars defensive tackle Terrance Knighton echoed many of the sentiments we hear from Romo's critics.

“I just think he’s in a position where he has the spotlight," he said. "I don’t think he’s really done anything to be in the spotlight. But being a Dallas Cowboys quarterback, you’re going to have that. I don’t think he does enough to be considered one of the elite (quarterbacks) in the NFL.”

Knight's teammate, Jeremy Mincey, had similar thoughts about Sanchez.

"Everybody talks about Sanchez, but I just don’t see what everybody is talking about. Maybe it’s the (New York) market that he’s in."

We would include the quotes from two anonymous players on Tebow but why? You can do the Mad Libs yourself: "He's not an NFL quarterback, he's a fullback. Not only his he inaccurate, he has a week arm. The media saturation is unbearable. We hate Tebowing with a passion." So on and so forth...

Upside: Tebow is first at something.

Tebow voted 'most overrated' by NFL players

I don't understand how he can be overrated when he's not even near being highly rated.

I still don't understand why Tony Romo is number two on the list.  If JG would actually utilize Tony Romo with his strentghs he wouldn't even be on that stupid list!.  JG is trying to make Tony into a pocket passer, which HE IS NOT!  so many  players on this list are failing in most part to the schemes there in and the coaching staff doesn't know how to manage a taco stand let alone NFL players.

There.  It appears that you were attempting an idiotic Skip Bayless homer rant.  You were close in that you actually picked his 2nd favorite topic and favorite retarded rationale (obviously they should change an entire offense and pretend that it would work against a defense because of someone's incompetence!), but I think the changes I made would really make him proud.  Read aloud now and channel your own inner Skippy.  No... LOUDER so that everyone hears you!  (it means you're correct and not stupid at all)

He's started what, two games now? In some minds, sure he may seem over-rated, but he hasn't had a large body of work (play time) to really judge this sort of thing. It's a joke.

Tebow voted 'most overrated' by NFL players

This poll conducted of NFL players in regards to Tebow's popularity or lack thereof does not mean a thing. After all, more than 60% of current NFL players did NOT graduate from college!!! Lest we forget that Alex Smith was once also regarded as overrated...and now he is playing like a Pro Bowl. Match Tebow with a competent coach and he will do well. Match him with a tool and he will not!!! How hard is that to comprehend (for those of you who did not graduate from high school or college...."comprehend" is another word for "understand").

You probably have a point about the term "overrated".  However, I think it's fair to say that Tim T has received way too much attention for an unaccomplished pro.  Agreed?

Calling Tim Tebow an overrated quarterback is like calling Rebecca Black an overrated vocalist.

Tebow voted 'most overrated' by NFL players

>The Sporting News interviewed 11 NFL players from 31 teams<

Does this mean that 11 players were interviewed?  Does this mean that 341 players were interviewed?  How come there are only 93 votes?  Thanks for the clarity.

Tebow voted 'most overrated' by NFL players

All those yahoo Tebow-ners are the"guy"s who think Tim "rates...high in the first place".  What makes holier than thou types so unpalatable is their hypocrisy.  Assuming the "Thinker"'s pose when something good happens to thank God should also be accompanied by a similar pose when something bad happens to give further praise to Him.  Scratch that.  If Tebow was posing for BAD as well as good the game would be all that much longer.
