Jerry Jones rips David Buehler's preparation

D. Buehler was placed on Injured Reserve with a groin injury (US Presswire).Posted by Josh Katzowitz

It’s not often you hear an owner rip his team’s kicker, but as we’ve come to expect from Cowboys owner Jerry Jones, his outspokenness continues to amaze and inspire.

That’s why we point you to comments Jones made on his radio show, via the Fort Worth Star Telegram, in which he crapped on David Buehler -- the man who handles the team’s kickoffs (but not the field goals and extra points) who was placed on Injured Reserve Thursday with a groin injury -- and questioned his preparation.

“Let me just say this: I’m frustrated because you would expect players to… and I understand injury, but he has known all along how to prepare and how to get in shape and how to prepare himself and be ready to be a kicker,” Jones said. “Now it’s frustrating to have your kicker injured. So he’s a valuable asset, especially with the rules as they are right now, we’re going to be playing some key away games out in the weather.

“We’d like to have him kicking in them because he is a better kickoff guy than [Dan] Bailey. So I’m very frustrated. It is his job to stay ready to play and prepare himself so those kinds of things for what he’s got to do don’t come up.”

In 2009, Buehler recorded 29 touchbacks, and the next season, he had 22. This year, he’s only got nine in 18 attempts, and for a guy whose job description is to provide touchbacks (during a year when it’s easier than ever), that’s not a very good percentage. It obviously won’t improve since his year is over, but the saddest part about Buehler’s season-ending injury is that he won’t get a chance to hit any more kick returners in the mouth.

And the way Jones is talking, you have to wonder if perhaps Buehler’s Cowboys career is heading in the same direction.

Reporters, including ESPN Dallas, talked to Buehler, and he said his groin still hurts and that the right side of his groin is black and blue.

“It sucks, “Buehler said. Which is certainly one way of putting it.

Jerry Jones rips David Buehler's preparation

Petty 84,

" Jimmy Johnson was great, AND JONES HIRED HIM which means jones kinda knows a little bit about what he's doing. What makes you think you know any thing about who is a good GM and who's not? Just becuase you read CBS articles everyday dosn't mean you know crap about football."

You do realize that it was also JONES THAT FIRED HIM after he won all those Super Bowls, with all those draft picks, and all that success?  And then went and hired BARRY SWTZER!?!?!?  He won a Super Bowl with Johnson's team and slowly drove the franchise into the ground.  You could've coached that team to a championship....sounds like you would've said as many dumb things.

Jones is an ego maniac and I'm sure feels, incorrectly like you (double meaning intended), he knows something about football.
Jones still refuses to put Johnson on the new ring of honor (in that penis extension of a stadium e built) for the success he gave him because he bruised that ego; even when called out by Troy Aikman, in person, on TV!

You should read more CBS articles, maybe everyday.  You definitely don't know crap about foortball.  Someone else referred to Jones as a 1% with no clue.  They were right.

Happens all the time as the years roll by

Hospitals are full of people that get injured more easily as they get older. You couldn`t hurt me as a young man,but as i got older.....
Anyway, had Jerry Jones ever had to do anything physical in life as he got a bit older,he MIGHT be able to understand injury. But that`s not always easy for the top 1% to understand,or accept.

Jerry Jones rips David Buehler's preparation

Jimmy Johnson's first big move was a completely idiotic one, he used the 1st overall supplemental pick (which would have been the 1st overall pick the next year) for former Hurricane rag-armed quarteraback Steve Walsh after taking strong-armed Troy Aikman with the regular #1 overall pick. Like everyone else Jimmy Johnson was "hit-n'miss" when it came to personal moves, but when you have three #1 overall picks and a bushel full of 1st rd picks every year you are going to hit on some.

==============================

A little knowledge can be a bad thing.

Yes, Johnson gave up a #1 pick in the 1990 draft for Steve Walsh by taking him in the supplemental draft of 1989 after taking Aikman with a #1 pick in the regular draft of 1989.

Four games into the 1990 season he traded Walsh to the Saints for a 1st & 3rd in the 1991 draft and a 2nd in the 1992 draft.

Johnson didn't have a bushel full of picks every year because the NFL liked him, he had them because he traded for them.  Nobody hits on every draft pick.  Johnson was smart because he realized this and basically insured his drafts by having multiple picks rather than putting all his eggs in one basket.

Bottom line on his first big move being idiotic.  I don't think anyone would call trading a #1 pick for a #1, #2 & #3 pick idiotic.

Tom Landry was the head coach when they drafted Michael Irvin. Jerry Jones rips David Buehler's preparation

Obviosly you didn't pay atention while you were reading. He is not a FG Kicker. All he does is kickoffs, thats it. The point he was making is with the rules they may they are this year he sould be performing, and he's not. If you are one of the best kickers in the league and they the move pup where you kick off from you should still be kicking touchbacks. Jimmy Johnson was great, AND JONES HIRED HIM which means jones kinda knows a little bit about what he's doing. What makes you think you know any thing about who is a good GM and who's not? Just becuase you read CBS articles everyday dosn't mean you know crap about football.

Jerry Jones rips David Buehler's preparation

What does Jerry Jones know about being a FG kicker? All kickers are strange at the very least. They all have their own rituals, superstitions or whatever you wish to call them. Jerry, what exactly makes you think you are even an average GM? There is no proof that you know anymore than the fans that put out mock drafts. Since Jimmy Johnson was fired, you haven't drafted a franchise QB, or any of the playmakers that Johnson did. And you wouldn't have won that 3rd SB without all of Jimmy's players.
So the next time you want to throw someone under the bus, you should stop and think "I really don't know what I'm doing". And leave it at that.

Jerry Jones rips David Buehler's preparation

I've been bleeding silver and blue since i was six years old!  Jerry Jones will never bring another championship trophy home until he realizes he IS NOT A GM!  The mistakes he has made in the draft and free agency get worse every year.  If he goes in for another facelift and doesn't wake up I won't shed one tear.
