Belichick mocks Jets D, Rex despondent over loss

Sunday night was supposed to be the crowning of the Jets as the new AFC East power. The Patriots were dead (long live the Patriots!) and the Jets were coming on strong. Except, it turns out, everyone lost their short-term memory and the Pats blew out the Jets 37-16, reminding everyone, as Mike Freeman wrote, that the AFC East isn't all that different just yet.

So will the Jets still win the Super Bowl? Well, they should probably try and win the division first, which is something that Rex Ryan doesn't see happening.

"It looks doubtful right now," Ryan said Sunday after the game. "What am I going to say? Maybe I should guarantee the fact that we’re out of it. The last time I did that, we made the playoffs. Yeah, we don’t have a chance."

Before Sunday, we noted that the trash-talking was suspiciously missing from the Jets for Patriots week, and we speculated that it was because Ryan knew he had a chance to really flip the tables in the AFC East. That was correct, because Ryan was clearly devastated by Sunday night's loss.

"We wanted to win this game in the worst way," Ryan said, unprompted, to open his press conference Sunday night.

Bill Belichick said nothing before the game about the importance of this win, but his actions near the end make it pretty clear it was important to him too. As we noted in the podcast, Sunday night was one of the best coaching efforts of Belichick's career and he and Tom Brady just so happened to break the record -- previously held Dan Marino and Don Shula -- for most wins by a quarterback and coach combo.

Week 10 Wrapup

Belichick was seen parading around the Pats sideline, slapping high-fives with backups and, in what's a pretty rare event, smiling after a victory. Oh, and there's this -- apparently he had some colorful words for Rex's crew. Brian Costello of the New York Post reports that Belichick dropped a vulgar little phrase towards the other sideline following the win.

"Thirty-seven points on the best defense in the league, s--- my d---," Belichick reportedly said.

Um, yeah, so that's probably not technically appropriate, and I'm sure we'll hear about this if/when the Jets and Pats meet in the postseason (it's kind of inevitable right?) and it'll probably turn into a big scandal or something. But anyone who's heard Belichick miked up knows this isn't all that surprising.

Besides, for now let's just enjoy the ridiculousness of a 60-year-old man running to midfield and screaming that at his opponent, as well as the silence from Rex.

It's really sad that the pretend media has to stoop as low as to report something that is about equal to bathroom gossip.
Furthermore, it's even more sad if any Jets fans gets offended by it.
Rex Ryan wants to own BB, but he doesn't, and he probably never will.
Belichick knows that stadium as well as he knows Gillette. He used to sleep there in his days with the Giants. Then spent time there again with the Jets. He's a fairly intellegent man. He knows exactly where the media is and he waited to make the comment to his son until they were in ear-shot. This was meant to be heard.

I'd love Ryan to come to NE as the DC if things don't work in NY. Belichick recpects the hell out of him. I can promise you that.

I love how the haters always change their tune about why the PATS win or lose. First it's Brady isn't an Elite QB and the only reason why he does well is becasue of the system created by BB and if it wasn't because of the system and coach then he would be a dead beat. Now it's Brady is a gret QB and if it wasn't for him BB would be a dead beat coach and if Brady wasn't there he wouldn't have the success. BB can't draft and he just got lucky picking Brady ...and Wilfork....and Seymour....and Mayo.....and Asante Samuel.. and GRONK oh and Hernandez, and emerging stars (pending) in Brandon Spikes, Patrick Chung and Devin Mccourty. Oh and yeah BB can't sign good free agents I mean god knows that Corey Dillion, Randy Moss, R. Colvin, Mike Vrabel, RODNEY HARRISON! and WES WELKER! were all total bust..LMAO

Oh yeah and the always fun "the D is to old (dam won the SB) wait its to young and a bunch of "no names" dam they just beat up the JETS."  So now BB a genius again?..... DAM RIGHT

How about you just swallow your BS and admit that BB and Tom Brady are one of the best coach and QB combos ever to play/Coach and get over it already.

cmbchamps...Although I do agree with you that Belichick has done a horrible job as a GM in drafting from a defensive prospective, I find it hilarious you mock a coach that has won multiple superbowls.  I don't see how the Jets are bulit for the playoffs this year...they have a difficult time running the ball and Sanchez has been wildly inconsistent.  Defensively, the Jets are a decent team and might be bulit for the playoffs...I'll give you that much...but they has to be able to get their first.  Until then how about trying to act gracious in defeat and wait to see how the playoff picture shakes out. If the season ended today, they would miss the playoffs.  I do think they will get in as a 6 seed which most likely would have them playing Pittsburgh...good luck with that.

Just trying to help you out here:

The footBALL lovin' Pillsbury Dough Boy Coach has got nothin' to say because HE rememberED, his foot is stuck in his mouth.
The Pats, as usual, took care of business on the field....The Jets as usual don't know how to keep it shut.
The Jets are a "wanna be"...and will never reach the promised land!!!
Patriot supremacy was back on display on Sunday....Way to GO Patriots....
Then again...
You probably went to school in New England.

hehe.  Yeah, the Jets know all about winning in January, because they have played in so many superbowls recently.  I'm not even a Patriot fan, but Jet fans are just... outrageous.

Wow.  cmbchamps, you talk a lot of trash for a fan who's team has won basically nothing since 1969.  And more recently, won nothing on Sunday.  Not only didn't win, but got trounced.  Its not like it was a 14-7 or 21-14 game.  It was an ass whoooping.  Jets and their fans should be shutting up, licking their wounds and getting ready for Denver.  Not trying to put down the team that just walked all over them.  This false bravado and lashing out is just... childish.  And very, very sad.

Oooh.  Just a thought.  What if Tim Tebow beats the Jets?  Wouldn't that be fun to see?

Oh, and as bad a drafter as Belichek has proven to be, it just makes you foolish to call him overrated as a coach.  The guy has how many rings?  Not just with the Patriots.   He was the defensive coordinator for two SB winning Giants teams.
