Early on, it seemed like there might be a chance to praise Tyler Palko for his play in New England, on short notice and during a primetime television matchup on Monday night. But Palko finished with three interceptions and New England blew Kansas City out 34-3, beginning what should be a run to get the Patriots on the top of the heap heading into the AFC playoffs.

Are they the best team in the conference? No, probably not. And Tom Brady, Bill Belichick and Co. are definitely in a class below the NFC's best offering, the Packers. But there's no reason to think they won't challenge for the top seed in the AFC and make a run in the playoffs.

For starters, the AFC East is all but locked up now -- even if the Jets win out, all the Patriots have to do is go 3-3 the rest of the way to lock in another division title.

And given the remaining schedule New England has, they could do that with Vince Wilfork taking all the carries in the backfield.

New England heads to Philadelphia in Week 12, then gets the Colts in Gillette, then travels to Washington, and then to Denver, before playing the Dolphins and Bills at home to close out.

Miami and Denver are showing signs of life and Philly's always dangerous, but 3-3 is an absolute worst-case scenario for the Pats. More likely? The defense continues to get pressure on opposing quarterbacks -- and what a group they'll be playing, eh? -- and we start to view the Pats as Super Bowl contenders.

We've noted this several times over the past few weeks, but in 2010, the Patriots were "done" after a Week 9 loss to Cleveland. All Tom Brady did the rest of the season was not throw an interception as New England stormed to 14-2 and the best record in the NFL.

It's unlikely they finish with the best record this year, but they could certainly pull off the second-best record, and that's good enough for the top seed in the AFC.

I think a first-round bye is within reach.

Super Bowl contenders?  Not sure.  Let's see how they show up in the playoffs.

Don't you love it...as soon as the Patriots start looking like champs again, out come the children calling them names. The Steelers fans whose team lost 7 out of the last 10 against the Pats...... The pathetic Jests fans whose pathetic Jests were bitch slapped twice this year by the Patriots. The same fanbase that says the same things year after year when the Patriots look awesome. This is exactly what Patriot Fans love to read about. Next we will read about Brady's hair style, or his love life, or Bills Hoodie.... typical girlie things. I for one love it when this happens. It means the Patriots are winning again and we can smile.

Pa lease....

That schedule is absolutely a cake walk. If the roles were reversed and the Jets were sitting in that spot, all you yahoo Pats fans would be crying. It's ok though, we'll all watch the Pats go 13-3 and pad their stats with these weak teams. Then everyone will believe the stats hype with that joke of a D. Once you get in the playoffs, you will be 1 and done because that D couldn't stop a nosebleed. Perfect karma for your cheating joke of a team. I can't wait until Billy gets a taste of his own medicine and teams score td's with a minute left in the game with a 24 point lead. All you yahoo's will be crying like the little babies you are.

Hey, you're the one worried about Michael Vick & the Eagles,Bills,DenverMiami,& the Colts. It could have been GB, Balt,Dallas,SF,& Chicago.Compared to the good teams in the NFL, it IS a cakewalk!

Considering that the Bills and Dolphins kept the games decently close and the Dolphins are on a winning streak and Tim Tebow seems to be getting the Broncos in line I am a little worried.

There is no such thing as a cupcake cruise in the NFL.

Armchair fans and media hypsters say things like that.

With the exception of the top 2 or 3 teams and the bottom 2 or 3 teams ... most NFL teams are pretty comparable.

Why do you think they say things like "any given Sunday" or "that's why they play the games"?

Come on now.

I guess the "experts" believe that the Redskins, Dolphins, and Eagles are all going to lose to the Patriots. That remains to be seen. The games are played on the field.

Another thought regard the "cupcake cruise' comment. You have to admit the Eagles are playing better and the pats play them in Philly. They also have to play the Redskins in Washington and Denver in Denver (where they have trouble winning.) The Dolphins are also a vastly improved team and still have to play the Patriots. So the experts claim none of those teams can beat the Patriots . That remains to be seen.
