Rinse, repeat: Tebow, Broncos win again

TebowPosted by Josh Katzowitz

It’s on the verge of getting ridiculous.

Tim Tebow won another game. With mediocre stats. With mediocre play. He won again, and that means he’s 5-1 as a starter as the Broncos kept themselves a game out of first place in the AFC West and in the thick of the wildcard race.

Even with John Elway saying this week that he’s still not sure if Tim Tebow is his man, Tebow, once again, led his team to victory. He did it in overtime when he led the Broncos on a six-play, 38-yard drive that resulted in a game-tying 24-yard field goal by Matt Prater, and he did it again in the final 2 minutes of overtime when Prater kicked a 37-yarder to win it 16-13.

OK, so the final overtime drive was helped immensely by Willis McGahee’s 24-yard run, and in overtime, Tebow was more spectator than savior. And yeah, Denver's defense has been pretty damn impressive. But Tebow -- who was 9 of 18 for 143 yards and a touchdown while rushing for 53 yards on 19 carries -- still gained 16 yards of his own on two carries in overtime to set up Novak’s kick.

And in reality, Tebow was a little lucky to have the opportunity. The Chargers could have won it on the possession before, but San Diego kicker Nick Novak missed the 53-yard field goal. That gave the Broncos possession on the Denver 43-yard line, and after an incomplete pass, the Chargers ran the ball three-straight times to set up Prater.

And after it was over, the CBS cameras cut to the sideline and focused on Elway. Who had a wide smile on his face.

"Just Win, Baby!" What else matters... This is how dollars and cents are measured in the NFL.

Needs some help.... Timmy is doing great!

Timmy is proving to be everything that everyone said he couldn't be.  Now imagine if they could put some weapons around him that actually helped him look better (losing Lloyd was a tragedy)!? Secondly, I would like to see the coaching staff take the handcuffs off of him during the game.

To my first point: In the game two weeks ago, Timmy is 60% if you give him 3 of the 4 dropped passes.  Today he is 67% if three obvious drops are caught (2 of the three are on third downs as well).  Lloyd made some great catches regardless of who is throwing the ball.  Why the got rid of him, nobody knows.  Some say he was going to be a thorn in the locker room.  Others say they got value for him they wouldn't get next year.  And others say Elway and Fox had thrown in the towel on this year and put Timmy out there to show the fans they don't know what they are talking about. We will never know and maybe it was a little of all three.  Either way, the guys in orange and blue need to help out thier QB and make some of those catches!

As for the play calling, it seems to me that it is just called too conservatively throughout the game. Then when the Bronco's get desparate, they move into formation and call plays that give them a run/throw option. Why not play this style for most of the game?  You can not keep expecting Tim to make the miracle comebacks and the only way to get the lead and keep the lead is to get ahead.  Running on 3rd and 8 is not opening up the playbook, and the lack of play action is frustrating to say the least.  We usually see a more creative gameplan in the first drive of the game and then in the fourht quarter (or end of the first half on occassion).  Everything in between makes me yell and scream at the T.V. to let these guys play.  You can't run 13 running plays in a row, get into a 3rd and 14 and exepct your QB to just go out there and make the throw.  Even in a shotgun formation you can freeze the safety and linebackers by faking the handoff to McGahee (who is playing amazing by the way).  They need to figure out a way to throw more and maintain balance.

Maybe the tables are beginning to turn and people will ask why coaches aren't doing more for the offense in Denver.  until then, i guess we will just have to see Tim Tebow win inspite of them.

Agreed, there were several key passes that were on target and dropped.  Not sure if that's because of the receiver corps not being used to left-handed throws (seems a little late to still give them that excuse, but I've read that several times and I don't have the experience to say otherwise), but I don't remember saying "you have to make those throws on target" this game.

I did get frustrated with running up the middle on 3rd and long so much... I think they need to air him out a little in the 8-15 yard range rather than just the short dumps and long bombs they've been doing.  All in all, though, steady improvement, and I look forward to seeing what he can do with an offseason.

All Tebow does is visit sick kids in the hospital, mission to the unchurched across the world, cast his name to pro-life campaigns, run the TimTebowFoundation...and win football games. That's a pretty good days work. From a Raiders fan, keep on keepin on, TT.

Tebow wins and will get criticized again... I hope he keeps winning and improving haters are just going to hate... I love it though, he dind't hype himself up, but he was bashed going into the draft, Broncos bashed for drafting him in the 1st round when they could have easily gotten him in the 3rd round.... I hope he gets some WR threats and improves so far it seems the WR's have been busts but he is winning... go figure.

I watched the game, and its very inaccurate to say that he played mediocre. I think this was the most solid game he has played all year, and from the second quarter on his passes looked like NFL passes. Yeah there wasn't that one highlight reel magic Tebow play, but he was secure with the ball and moved well against the Chargers D.

Just keep winning Tebow! Doubters 1-5, Tebow 5-1, Me 5-1 in my football pool and in 2nd place overall because I keep winning with Denver while the doubters keep losing with each new opponent that all the experts say will certainly shut down Tebow. The guys is a clutch player who makes plays when it counts and wins and he doesn't make the big mistake (7TDs, 1 INT). I'll take him over 75% of the QBs in the NFL. Other than Aaron Rodgers and the Packers, nobody in the NFL has a better W/L record than Tebow and the Broncos. That's the bottom line!
