Report: Ndamukong Suh called Goodell to apologize

Ndamukong Suh's been subject to plenty of judgment following his ejection-worthy actions against Green Bay in Detroit's Thanksgiving day loss.

The defensive lineman initially said he wouldn't apologize for stomping at Packers guard Evan Dietrich-Smith, but reversed course by posting an apology on his Facebook page. And Suh also reportedly called Roger Goodell to apologize for his actions on Sunday night.

That's according to ESPN's Adam Schefter, who reported the details of Suh's phone call on Monday evening.

Of course, Suh's apologies might not matter -- it's believed that the Lions defensive tackle could receive as much as a two-game suspension, and it seems likely that Suh only apologized to mitigate the danger of a multiple-game suspension.

That's because Suh, immediately following the Lions loss, wasn't exactly contrite about his actions.

"I was on top of a guy being pulled down," Suh said, according to CBSSports.com's Pete Prisco. "I was trying to get up off the ground. You see me pushing his helmet down because I was trying to remove myself from the situation. As I'm getting up, I'm getting pushed, so I'm getting myself in balance and getting away from the situation. I know what I did and the man upstairs knows what I did."

The visual evidence offered a story quite to the contrary, and it's no surprise that Suh was ejected. On the bright side, it's also possible, as CBS Sports' Charley Casserly pointed out Sunday, that Suh's punishment will be shortened because he missed part of that game against the Packers.

Either way, there's likely to be a heated debate about Suh's punishment if the league delivers the news on Tuesday, as expected.

Why?

Apologize for what?  I thought Suh said he did nothing wrong.  Open memo to the NFL players: cut block this idiot!

Did he call Goodell COLLECT?????

Nothing worse than a low class ghetto thug kissing the commissioners butt in hope of less punishment.  He still hasn't even apologized to the Packer he stomped on.  His suspension should be 3 games of which 2 of the games MUST be against division rivals.  Let his actions effect the Lions run for the playoffs.

How'd that phone call go...

Suh, "Dad, please don't beat me by serving up a 2-game suspension. I didn't mean to forcibly place my foot down onto a defensless guy on the groud. It was the voices in my mentally disturbed head. I'm the cat's pajamas, and people in Detroit come to see me. I promise I learned my lesson after this umteenth offense and vow to be a more professional person on and off the field yet again."

Goodell, "Are you done?"

Suh, "Yes Daddy."

Ridiculous, suspended for the rest of the season imo. I make an apology to that to my father when I was young, it would have only made things worse, especially if I were a repeat offender.    &n

...and, why call Goodell...?

Did he stomp on Goodell, when he was laying on the ground?  No.  So, then; why apologize to Goodell --aside from trying to get some leniency?  The apology needed to go elsewhere, and did not.  Too little, too late; not to mention, too inconsiderate and self-centered.  He needs to get the gong for the rest of the season.

Stafford sucks?!  Check your own QB!  Cutler's a pussy that can't play hurt and he's a head case as well.  If Chicago didn't have Urlacher running the defense, they would be getting blown out every game.  I hope that Hainey can get your team into the playoffs (haha).  Your OC isn't even smart enough to get the RBs involved in the game when a backup QB is playing (I guess that's why he's not a HC anymore).  Stafford's hit on the DB was huge dude!!  He threw him down by the back of his helmet, WOW!!  Your Bears will be lucky to win another game this season.  The Lions coach is trying to set a mindset and admittingly, he has to get his players in check, but the Lions have been down so long they need to do something.

Delusional idiot.
