'Skins Davis, Williams suspended for drug tests?

A few weeks ago, reports began surfacing that a number of NFL players (11 to be exact) failed drug tests and that a pair of Redskins -- offensive tackle Trent Williams and tight end Fred Davis -- could face suspensions.

But since then it's been pretty quiet surrounding Davis and Williams. Until Sunday anyway, when Sports Illustrated's Jim Trotter reported that both Williams and Davis received four-game suspensions for failed drug tests.

Trotter reports that the pair of Redskins initially received season-long suspensions, but had them reduced as part of the NFL and NFLPA's settlement. The other nine players who were nailed for failed tests were busted during the grace period following the end of the 2011 lockout.

Williams and Davis, per Trotter, failed the tests during the season, which is why they received the four-game suspensions.

The pair were not suspended for Sunday's game against the Jets (currently underway -- follow here) because they did not receive notice from the league in time.

However, the season is effectively over for Davis and Williams, as the Redskins have just four games left. Barring a miracle playoff run, the pair won't play against this season.

Even if it was, the NFL rules take priority on this one. It is the same as if someone was hired for a job in a state that legalized the drug but the job has an ethics clause which says you are not permitted to use the drug. You will still get fired... sorry clueless Skins fans, your team sucks even when breaking the rules/laws.

Everyones body temperature is different. No one person's is the same.  All they do is take the avg. body temperature of a certain number of people and deem that as being what your body temperature should be.  Its ludicrous that people think just bc your urine isnt a certain degree that you must have messed with it.  Get a clue and get back to reality.

Not for nothing and the jets won anyway....but davis played well and could have been the difference....now the next four weeks he's out....it would seem to me that the moment they fail the suspensions should be immediate....certainly not sunday night after they play in a game that could have meaning.....

grizzer24 ... Your team is the Redskins, too. Why the hate?  Don't you want what is best for the team?  Both Davis & Williams each failed at least three drug tests.  Don't they need to face scrutiny and ridicule for their selfish and stupid choices?  What else is it?

So when it is confirmed, and becomes public knowledge, will you retract that comment?

Actually, I heard a report yesterday the players were banned for marijuana use.  Not sure if this is the same set of suspensions, but I never heard of a player smoking to improve his play.  Never-the-less, sure it's unfortunate, but it's also illegal.

I think it should be pointed out that although there is a banned substance list, the Williams' in Minnesota also stated this, that the list isn't readily published on the wall in the locker room.  They could just as easily go to the store and purchase a powder off the shelf like Pro Stars (What the Williams' took) and test positive.

These guys aren't chemists or trainers, they are pro athletes looking for every edge they can get.

So do it intentionally, some do it unintentionally, if they took a supliment and didn't realize it was banned which is very common then this is unfortunate.  If they were outright trying to cheat then that is another story.

However as a Redskin fan, Fred Davis is our best TE, and Trent Williams our best offensive lineman and a 1st Rd draft pick last year, cutting them would be a huge mistake and would set the franchise back even further than what it is now.

At the end fo the day Dan Snyder and the organization as a whole aren't here to make sure your morals and values are taken care of, they are here to make money and cutting two of their best players is not the best way to do that.

It's not the best way to win football games when Stephan Heyer is your backup tackle and I play TE.
