Big Ben, Pouncey have troubling ankle sprains

Roethlisberger

By Josh Katzowitz

You already know that Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlsiberger thought he broke his leg in the first half of Thursday’s win against the Browns, only to return in the second half and power his way through what was later thought to be a high ankle sprain.

Was he tough to the max Thursday? Indeed. Can he play next week? Maybe not.

According to the Pittsburgh Post Gazette Roethlisberger underwent an MRI that confirmed the high ankle sprain, and apparently, the injury has been described as “not good.”

Making matters worse, according to the paper, is that center Maurkice Pouncey also suffered a high ankle sprain and it’s in the same condition as Roethlisberger’s ankle (ie. Less than good).

The Steelers don’t play again until Dec. 19, and getting 10 days of rest will be helpful to the duo. But they also have to play the high-flying 49ers who have one of the top defenses in the league.

You could live with Charlie Batch as Roethlisberger’s backup, but without Pouncey -- who said after Thursday’s game that he would play next week -- as the starter in the middle of the offensive line, that could create a major problem for the Steelers.

Big Ben, Pouncey have troubling ankle sprains

Don't count Big Ben out.  I am a Ravens fan and have seen Ben too much to underestimate his ability to do things others cannot.  That guy is the toughest qb the league has seen in decades.  It would not surprise me if he plays and plays well against the 49ers.  He may limp the whole game but he'll still shake tackles and hit his receivers with game winning catches.  Seen it too many times.

The 49ers D is great but both Ravens and Steelers D is better, much better.  Did anyone notice how the Steelers defense rose to a higher level after Ben and Pouncey went down?  That's what they do.  Fear the wounded animal.  You don't have to like the Steelers, but you do have to respect them and respect Big Ben.

Can't believe I am posting this.

You might want to think before you post. The Steelers have played one fewer game against the NFC West than the 49ers have

=========================

You better think before you post, the 49ers will play the teams in there division twice, wish the Steelers could do that.

Don't even talk about easy schedules, the Niners play in the most pitiful division in the history of football , Seattle won it last year at 7-9 , you want to talk about owners? how about Eddie Debartalo of the Niners when they won there 4 super bowls, the Mafiaoso himself , so don't even mock the Rooneys when your best owner was a thug.

You might want to think before you post. The Steelers have played one fewer game against the NFC West than the 49ers have. The Steelers also got that juggernaut Colts team and the Mighty Jags! Brutal schedule, huh?

@ that guy, it's not about taking a team seriously or not it's more about confidence.  The steelers and fans believe we can win every game, no matter who it is. I know you just recently became a niner fan (probably around week 8 or so?) and you don't know what it's like to have that kind of mentality.  Also, the niners have beefed up their records against teams that aren't really all that good.  If/when they go against a superior defense, they will falter.  Niners may have a great run defense this year, but guess what, the steelers aren't a running team anymore, regardless if ben is out or not.  Niners are going to lose their first game in the playoffs anyways (most likely to the #3 seed Saints).  Thanks for sharing your "knowledge" with us!!

Of course Steeler fans have already chalked up a win, dismissing the chances of a 10-2 team while playing on road, possibly without its starting QB and center. But neither that arrogance nor some 3rd grade analysis of the 49ers team is going to intimidate anyone. If you want to take this team lightly, go right ahead.

Funny reading bigkahuna's arguments that the Niners only play who are on the schedule yet at the same time rips the opponents that the Steelers have played for not being any good like the Chiefs with Palko and the Browns with McCoy. Great double standard there. If you want to make a point make sure you don't have that exact point thrown right back at you because it makes you look foolish. BOTH teams have played some terrible teams on the schedule just because you want to knock down the Steelers doesn't mean you should turn a blind eye to who the Niners have played. Also when you say that you are going to make a COUPLE of points please just do that instead of throwing a list longer than a second grader making hers to Santa.
