Adrian Peterson thinks Saints D was playing dirty

Posted on: December 19, 2011 2:59 pm
A week after a Tennessee player accused New Orleans' D of playing dirty, Peterson does the same. (US PRESSWIRE)

By Ryan Wilson

After missing three games with a high-ankle sprain, Vikings running back Adrian Peterson returned to the lineup Sunday against the Saints to carry the ball 10 times for 60 yards. But following Minnesota's 42-20 loss, Peterson suggested that New Orleans cornerback Jabari Greer intentionally twisted his ankle one play before he ripped off a game-high 39-yard run.

"I came into the game kind of expecting that coming back from a high ankle sprain," Peterson said, according to the Times-Picayune. "Guys are going to try to take their shots when we're on the pile and try to twist it up and things like that.  "I felt like it kind of got overboard. I got up and kind of got in his face. Thank God I was able to keep my composure."

This comes a week after Tennessee wideout Nate Washington accused New Orleans safety Roman Harper of being a dirty player after he grabbed Damian Williams' facemask.

"Honestly, he's a dirty player," Washington said after their Week 14 meeting. "We watched film on [Harper], he's dirty. And I don't appreciate it, I'm going to step out in public and say it: He's dirty. That was dirty what he did, it's unfortunate that he grabbed the facemask -- at the same time you don't walk over a guy and nudge him with your knee. You don't do that. That's dirty. And honestly, that's a dirty player, flat out. This is not just one game. He's been doing it all season. And I'm tired of it. I hope the league did something about it."

During his Monday press conference, Vikings head coach Leslie Frazier said that Peterson came out of the Saints game "fine," which is more than we can say for the Vikings' season.

Adrian Peterson thinks Saints D was playing dirty

You know what you didn't hear?  "Let's look at the tape and see Jabari commit the dirty play."  If AP's got a case, then he's got a case...  just go to the tape and point it out.  And yet, twenty-four hours later, I hear nothing that stands up further than a simple inference.

My thinking he's just pissed, and he "knows" that the Saints are supposed to be a "dirty" team.  So, it's easy to use that reputation and infer that the reason he got his butt handed to him is because of some unethical move, without the risk of being proven wrong.

That said, I won't say that there's not been any overzealous defensive play.  In the spotlight now for such things, my guy Roman's got to be able to control the late hits and the scuffling.  As far as his fines...  Not sure the facemask fine was warranted, but the helmet-to-helmet probably is.  Gotta be honest, though, I see a lot of foul play out there, and I can't honestly say Roman's any worse than average.

I was talking with former NFL player Conrad Dobler and he said he was shocked that something like that happened. According to Dobler, nothing like that would have happened when he played.  LOL

Really? So when the Saints were losing and the "Big Boys" were standing over them posing and hit QB's late no one had a problem with this.

Is that new news, Adrian?    As I recall, that's EXACTLY how they got past you, Favre, and the rest of the Vikings into the Super Bowl a few years ago!   It seems to me that you can expect nothing LESS whenever you play the "not always so saintly" Saints.

The Saints defense is dirty as all get out, look no further than the $22,500 fine of Roman Harper for two different infractions in the Saints game against the Titans.

Actually, they called 5 penalties on the Packers and 7 on the Chiefs, 1bigbearfan, or is your name "Sally"  wah,
wah, wah.  The Chiefs beat the Packers because they have an offense that can more the ball to at least field goal range, much unlike the Bears!!!!  Last time the Bears scored 3 on the Packers, think you will get that much this time.

Hey peterson have you played against the officials in a greenbay game yet? Its hard to beat greenbay when the officials are pulling for them.  And dirty hell the packers initiate the penaltys and get the call on the opponent.  Dumb a s s officials.
