The should-he-or-shouldn't-he-start saga with Ben Roethlisberger appears to be over, and Charlie Batch will start for the Steelers in their game Saturday against St. Louis.

The Steelers named Batch the starter over Roethlisberger on Friday, putting to rest the speculation (from Roethlisberger himself) that Ben would play on a bum ankle again. Roethlisberger, as you can imagine, wasn't thrilled.

"Well, I think if you rest you obviously can hopefully improve and give yourself higher percentages," Roethlisberger said, per our Steelers Rapid Reporter Chuck Finder. "But I like to be out there. I want to get the reps. Work on the little things that hopefully will get us ready for January."

Roethlisberger, by the way, hasn't been ruled out yet -- he's still technically "questionable" and will probably take the role of emergency quarterback with Dennis Dixon locked in as the backup.

That means if things get out of hand, the Steelers could theoretically turn to Ben, but it really shouldn't get that far, considering the Rams have scored more than 13 points exactly once over their last seven games, only one of which was a win (a 13-12 win over Cleveland).

Center Maurkice Pouncey, running back Mewelde Moore, wide receiver Emmanuel Sanders and defensive back Curtis Brown are all ruled out for game, and along with Roethlisberger, linebacker LaMarr Woodley is questionable.

The real problem that I have with this is that I had to have my picks in on Wed for my confidence pool & I hung 16 on the Steelers!!!!

I do NOT trust Charlie Batch to lead the Steelers to a win this week.  He is an old, immobile statue with a candy arm at this point in his career.  He definitely knows the playbook as well as anyone on the Steelers, but he is basically an Assistant Offensive Coordinator with a helmet.  I would rather see Dixon under center, he has a good arm and he can run when required.  Hopefully, this game is still close with a low score when Tomlin gets that epiphinay and puts Dixon in to close out the Rams.  I do agree with sitting Roethlisberger this week, but just because a guy practically co-wrote the playbook, doesn't mean he should be on the field trying to march the team up and down the field.  C'mon Charlie, prove me wrong.

Your not alone. I'm probably gonna stay with Wallace because he can take a short pass the distance at any moment  but it suckks this had to be the week he loses Ben. Atleast the Rams give up a pile of td's to wr's!

Charlie Batch could take over and lead the Steelers to the superbowl.  He is a solid QB and don't be surperised if the Steelers look better than they have al year long!

ezmover2020.
I guess reading comp is not your strong point. It clearly states Ben "NOT BEING HAPPY ABOUT STARTING". He wanted to play to get the reps in..
Toughest QB is Cam?? Let's see how he holds up after taking half of the punishment (most sacked and hit QB over the last 5 or so years) Ben takes.
