Peterson

By Josh Katzowitz

Earlier Saturday evening, we told you about the report that Vikings running back Adrian Peterson tore his ACL today. That breaking news, unfortunately for the Vikings, was accurate, and it, in fact, might be even worse.

The team announced Saturday night that an MRI confirmed that Peterson had torn his ACL and that coach Leslie Frazier would discuss the matter at his Monday afternoon news conference. ESPN 1500’s Tom Pelissero also reported that Peterson tore his MCL but did not tear his PCL.

This confirmation, of course, was what Peterson was afraid of after Redskins safety DeJon Gomes blasted him from the side and bent his knee in an unnatural direction.

"It was very severe, the pain was," Peterson said after the Minnesota win. "Once it kind of eased up, I was able to kind of roll around and kind of grasp what just took place."

More from Pelissero:
Surgery may not occur for several weeks, depending on the extent of additional ligament and/or cartilage damage.

An optimistic timetable would have Peterson returning to action no sooner than September. And recent research suggests even an athlete of Peterson's caliber may struggle to return to his previous performance level.

It is, to say the least, a terrible piece of news for Peterson and the organization.

MRI reveals Adrian Peterson tore his ACL

I'm a Packer fan, but I still feel bad for AP, he is a class act and did not deserve this, hopefully he comes back strong. It will be tough though,he is no spring chicken anymore in NFL years.

This has to be a crushing blow to this team going forward. RB was one position they felt good about and now that's in flux too. But the biggest problem this organization has is they have no one in charge making football decisions, and the team is quickly sliding toward an abyss. Seems like the best thing would be for the Wilfs to sell and get somebody else in who can right this ship before it gets worse, cuz they have absolutely no clue on how to run a football team.

Meant to say Campbell didn't have as much speed as AP but more power.  Dickerson had every bit as much speed as AP.

I love AP and readily admit he is the best running back in the NFL but to say his size and speed are incomparable to any other in NFL history is a reach.  Bo Jackson, Herschel Walker, Earl Campbell, Eric Dickerson (not the speed but definitely more power) all probably exceeded AP in those departments.

This breaks my heart. AP is one of my favourite players, I admire his skill and effort beyond belief. I pray he once again regains his form. No one better come on here with a fantasy comment...

Man that sucks.  The guy is the most consistent running back in the game year in and year out.  Best wishes on the recovery AP, you're a player that's fun to watch.

To all Vikings fans, sorry this happened.  AP is the most exciting player in the game.  As a Lions fan, I can't admit AP is better than Barry Sanders but his strength, size, power, and speed are incomparable to any other running back in NFL history.  I hope he recovers 100% and can continue his hall of fame career.

The sorriest part of this story, neither team had a goal in mind...the game was meaningless. I wish the best for him, the simple fact was, is, no one worth a crap should have been playing.
