Report: Vikings close to a deal to stay in MIN

WilfBy Josh Katzowitz

The NFL still seems awfully intent on moving a team to Los Angeles, but it sounds like that team won’t be the Minnesota Vikings. That’s the word from Sports Illustrated’s Peter King, who reported on NBC’s Football Night in America that the Vikings and Minnesota officials are close to a deal that would keep the team where it’s always been.

This has been a long drawn-out process for the people of Minnesota.

The Vikings have been trying to build a new stadium in Arden Hills, but even though the team, the state and the county all promised money for the stadium, a new facility was about $100 million short. Then, there was talk that a new stadium might be built within the Minneapolis city limits, which would be less expensive but not what the Vikings officials wanted.

The Vikings and L.A.
But considering the Vikings lease with the Metrodome was set to expire (though there was talk that the lease might have contained a clause that would keep the Vikings in their current stadium for another season), it behooved the state to get this deal done.

While owner Zygi Wilf has made it clear he wants to stay in the Minneapolis area, if L.A., with its promise of glitz, glam and a new stadium, puts the full-court press on the Vikings ownership, there’s little question the Vikings would have to listen.

And when you’re listening to somebody who’s trying to woo you, anything can happen.

God, I hope they don't "rebuild" at the HHH (Mall of America) site.  There is nowhere to tailgate before the game.  Viking fans deserve a new stadium where we can enjoy the fall weather and our shared masochistic love of our 3-12 team.  At least if we can tailgate, we can talk about the team of the 1970s, the 1998 season, etc.  Just remember Viking fans, each year in April, HOPE SPRINGS ETERNAL with the hope we finally get the "missing pieces" in the draft.

A Vikings stadium WILL happen in MN. It will probably be right where the dome is now.  The Vikings will play 2 or 3 years in the Gophers new stadium.

No, it's not the Jaguars.  If ownership tries to move the team, they will owe the city of jacksonville and various charities over 125 million dollars.  No matter how great LA looks, not sure it's worth that much to move there

Obviously the team for LA are the Jaguars...everybody knows it...
if they can not find a solution i think they can expand the league with LA and maybe another franchise
now the league is cleary able to absorb new franchises..the number of players with enough talent to play is raising...we take a look at rosters at the end of the season...some teams play with totally different personal...the talent is there..NFL is healthy!!...what is the problem to expand 1 or 2 teams especially thinking one of them is in LOs Angeles?...

Well, Cincinnati players and coaches have to beg for fans to show up to meaningful games.  If ownership ever changes away from the Brown family or to a young and business savvy Brown that franchise should be on the move.

They are already moving dirt in the Arden Hills area, the only team moving is the Jags.... watch for the Jets to move up for Luck.

I'd be more excited about this if the team wasn't so mismanaged right now. The Vikings are YEARS away from being competitive in the playoffs, and now that AP's trade value is crap, there's really no way to get better except to suck for 3-4 years in a row and get some decent draft picks. In the mean time, Joe Webb has to be on the field on every offensive snap.  If that means trading Ponder or moving Webb to WR, so be it.

Is California still part of the United States? Instead of the Vikes moving to California, can we cede California to Mexico?
