The Bengals have been one of the best stories of 2011, winning enough games so far to set them up for a win-and-they're-in situation against the Ravens in Week 17. (As noted at our playoff scenario home, Cincy's in if the Jets and Raiders both lose too.) But not enough people are taking notice, and Cincy's still struggling to fill Paul Brown Stadium.

Week 16 Recap

To make up for the woeful attendance (and to avoid a local blackout), the Bengals are offering a buy-one, get-one free ticket special between now and Sunday's game, an unheard of special for an NFL game. Oh, and the players are begging the fans to show up too.

"I just want to thank the fans who were out there today,” defensive lineman Domata Peko said, per the Cincinnati Enquirer. "We really felt you guys out there, and that helped us out big time. I really want to encourage all of the Cincinnati fans to come out and cheer us on as we try to make the playoffs."

You can't really blame the Bengals, though. On October 2, 41,142 people showed up to see Cincy play the Bills and it was the smallest crowd in regular-season history for the stadium. That was the third time in 2011 there were less than 42,000 folks at Paul Brown, including this past Saturday, when only 41,273 people showed up despite the Bengals battling for the playoffs.

Here's an alternate suggestion if the sale doesn't work out: just have Jerome Simpson do flips into the end zone at halftime.

Bengals offer buy-1, get-1 free tix for Week 17

A question for all the Bengals fans who do not attend games as a protest to the team's owner - What if this owner just says fine, if you fans are not going to attend then I'll just move the team to LA or elsewhere. Then what will you Bengals fans do?
The same thing they do now - stay home on Sundays?

OK this is for all those who do not say there are die hard Bengals fan, or why do they not come out.  First of all they have only had 3 winning seasons over the past 21 years plus only 2 playoff appearances and no wins.  We have lived through the David Shula years, the Ki-Jan Carter knee, Akilia Smith better than the whole Saints draft, Carson Palmers knee, More arrests than any other team, Denver Deflection, Ochocinco, and Carson Trade me or else.  An owner who spends 200 million in cash to buy 30% of the team and whines that he would like the city to bulid him a 3 million dollar practice bubble (they drive to the local college's bubble) after almost half a billion to build him a new staduim.  Who is also unwilling to help a city budget crisis. I would bet that most of you would not be fans of any team that has gone through that.  I DARE YOU!  Now look at my profile born, raiised, and will die in Cincinnati.  Bleed Orange and Black.  Season ticket holder already for Sunday.  Was there all season.  WHO DEY!  Go back and look at any other teams last 20 years and go through so much and still be a fan.  I am insane damn straight.  PLAYOFFS start Sunday.

Whether Bengal fans like it or not we are stuck with Mike Brown. I was shocked when he decided to make the trade for Carson Palmer - a good sign for the future. Offering a two for one is another good move. I hope fans in around Cincinnati can put their petty differences aside and support the team this weekend. They deserve it.
A move to LA is a possibility, I sure hope it doesn't happen. We've seen what Delta's downsizing has done to out economy, the loss of the Bengals would be even more crippling. There are no guarantees for a replacement team now or in the future.

There has been a lot of criticism of Mike Brown, and most of it justified, but with an emerging young team and prospects of adding more talent next year, it is time to get back to the ole "WHO DEY's". If not, we have given Mike Brown the excuse he wants and needs. You say he has a lease, a contract, .... made to be broken I'm afraid.

The team has been the laughing stock of the nation with the arrests, the player unrest, the players who survived on media attention, and the inept coaching. Who's to say all that has been washed away but it appears we finally have a team that wants to win and works well together. Win or lose on Sunday, you can't say it hasn't been an entertaining year. I urge those that can attend the game show Mike Brown Cincinnati still has great sports fans. Otherwise, the distinct possibilty of "TV blackouts" may end, not because of a sell outs but because of a missing NFL team.

Good post Ravenisty!  It needed to be said. Thanks,

That's a crying shame that fans have to be begged to go to a game.
Just pathetic.

p;    You only know what you read, obviously, about Bengal fans because their is a core of  loyal season ticket holders who love the Bengals and  I'm one of them.It doesn't matter to me that in this small-market franchise the owners that be over built the stadium.I just come to the game to see good football. It may not always good football  but lately it's been better that expected.Who dey to all you Bengal fans out there!Ravens suck!

Also Ravenisity, tell them how the owners from The Patriots, Rams, and Cardinals flirted with the temptation to come to Baltimore before the Browns.  They realized that Baltimore fans cared for the NFL to come back when they sold out an exhibition between the Saints and Dolphins.  How they pleaded their case at the expansion meetings and were told by Tagliabue to build a museam instead, so that places like Jacksonville and Carolina could get franchises instead.  Baltimore eventually did build a museam, its called M&T Bank Stadium. Youre right,Irsay, TagliabOO, Jack Kent Cooke and his made up area name by the MARYLAND based stadium, (his sons..RALJON,Ralph and Jon) are reminders  all that were wrong with the league when the Colts were allowed to leave.  Idiot media people like Costa who were as ignorant of the facts as one could get added insult to injury and to this day are ill memories and trash to alll fans of the original Colts and current  Ravens fans.
