Week 17 means nothing for the Eagles, who are already eliminated from the postseason despite their Week 16 20-7 victory over Dallas. But it was going to mean something for running back LeSean McCoy, who had a shot at the NFL rushing title as well the Philly single-season record for rushing yards.
Week 16 Recap

But McCoy won't be topping Wilbert Montgomery's club record for rushing yards now, at least based on his comments Monday.

"Montgomery, he’s probably smiling right now," McCoy said, per Bob Grotz of the Delaware County Times. "I’ll get it next year – hopefully."

McCoy was 123 yards shy of Montgomery's franchise record for rushing yards of 1,512 yards that he set in 1979, so he stood a pretty good chance of topping that, with the Eagles set to play the Redskins in the final game of the season.

So the Eagles are smart to shut Shady down for the year ... except they're not apparently.

"McCoy has a slight ankle sprain, but he’ll be fine," Andy Reid said on Monday. "I know there was something put out there that he wasn’t going to play, but that’s not the case. [His comments] were more towards how many yards he thought he needed to break Wilbert Montgomery’s record."

Reid said all his starters will play, provided they're healthy, which is interesting given what happened to Adrian Peterson -- a talented running back dealing with an ankle sprain who played in a meaningless game and blew out his knee -- in Week 16.

The rushing title wasn't likely going to happen anyway: McCoy's 1,309 yards is nearly 130 shy of Maurice Jones-Drew's league-leading 1,437 rushing yards on the season.

And unlike Montgomery, MJD will actually play on Sunday. So will McCoy, apparently.

Andy Reid says LeSean McCoy will play Week 17

This entire article is silly.  These guys get paid millions to play 16 games a year.  Of course McCoy should play if he is physically able.  You don't bench your starters once you are eliminated.  Such a notion is beyond silly.

Andy Reid says LeSean McCoy will play Week 17

What are they supposed to do shut down every starter as soon as a team is eliminated from playoff still have to pay full price so they should keep playing

Andy Reid says LeSean McCoy will play Week 17

Brilliant move Andy, what are you going to say if McCoy sustains a career threating injury by playing injures in a meaningless game.
Oh sorry I know. You will say the usual That is my responsibilty and I have to do a better job with that. They can't possibly bring back this moron for another season. If they do I am conviced he has pictures of Laurie and Banner in comprimising shots. So while they are at it they might as well let him screw up another draft. If he manages the clock the during the draft the way he does during games he might pull a Vikings move and miss his pick.

Andy Reid says LeSean McCoy will play Week 17

Montgomery's record was established during a 16-game season as the Birds were 11-5 that year (1979).  If Reid's offense was more run-oriented, Shady would have that record broken easily by now.  I will admit that the Eagles are running the ball more often than in years past.  With a weapon like McCoy, you want to get the ball in his hands as much as possible.  Westbrook was the same way, but injuries kept him from enjoy the 20 carries/game type season.  Both are very good catching the ball and that helps although Westbrook was very hard to beat as a receiver out of the backfield.  Shady could be very, very special before he's all said and done in this league.

Andy Reid says LeSean McCoy will play Week 17

Major propers to Will Brinson for the Correction.

You know, pretty soon Wilbert Montgomery will be on here asking everybody to consider that he gained his yards in a 14 game season ... is anybody listening?  McCoy gets a 16 game season.  But McCoy has his yards in 273 attempts, and Montgomery toted the rock 338 times.  So as long as McCoy can drag DeAngelo Hall and others up and down the field 54 or less times on Sunday ... then he will have had the best statistical year in Eagles' history.

Ha. Sorry about that. Wrote the post, Reid said what he did and then I had to change everything. So my brain was scrambled. Fixed now.

The point on MJD vs. Montgomery was that Montgomery's record is static. MJD will continue to increase his total.

Reid said all his starters will play, provided their healthy,
provided their healthy _____ (what?)

Oh, did you mean provided they are healthy?

Well Will, that is spelled they're

Another nice job by the professionals at CBSSoprts

First Katzowitz prints that the Jets were eliminated from the playoffs after the loss to the Giants, and the next day another glaring error in print.

Sorry to be the Spelling, and Grammar, and FACT police ... but enough is enough.

LeSean McCoy admits he's done for the year

McCoy had one great year.  Eagles fan must and should be excited that he is yours.  I can see him winning that rushing title next year along with leading the Eagles to the playoffs.  I do find it interesting that he is on the Eagles since it is well known that Andy Reid likes passing more than rushing.  In any case, good job this year, McCoy!

LeSean McCoy admits he's done for the year

Another good job of editing. The second article I read today and both with glaring errors. You are right however I doubt Wibert Montgomery will play this week thus eliminating his chance of catch MJD for the rushing title. But I doubt at his age Montgomery could have rushed for more than 1500 yards this week.
I just gone done reading that Brians Dawkins injury would hinder the Raiders chances of making the plkayoffs this coming week. I didn't even know the Raiders got Dawkins from the Bronco's. I thought the trade deadline had passed. Maybe I missed it, must have been the same day Montgomery came out of retirement after Shaddy McCoy got injured.
