Mike Pereira thinks Jon Gruden is a 'blowhard'

As the former VP of Officiating for the NFL, Fox Sports analyst Mike Pereira's been able to provide some nice insight into the world of officiating from the angle of a broadcaster. But in his latest column, he decided to go meta and play the role of media critic, harshly ripping ESPN analyst and former Buccaneers coach Jon Gruden.

In Pereira's column, which is actually focused on Gruden, the Fox analyst calls Gruden a "blowhard" who was a "loudmouth" as a coach. Pereira then writes that he has "very little respect for [Gruden] when it comes to officiating and his knowledge of the rules."

So, um, yeah, it's a bit awkward. And it could get worse -- what happens if, as our own Mike Freeman reported, Gruden comes back to coaching and returns, hypothetically, to a team like the Rams?

They play in the NFC and their games are more likely to be aired on Fox, where Pereira could have the responsibility of objectively analyzing Gruden's challenges and the interpretation of NFL rules as they apply to Gruden's hypothetical future team.

Even though Pereira says he respects Gruden's "knowledge about X's and O's when it comes to coaching and playing the game of football," but it's difficult to believe that Pereira, who appears to hold a grudge dating from Gruden's coaching days, could do so.

Pereira's beef with Gruden's interpretation of the rules relates to helmet-to-helmet hits. It's pretty obvious that Gruden simply doesn't care for the new rules; by stating that he doesn't "understand how the games are officiated" Gruden's not actually speaking to his lack of knowledge of the rules. He's speaking to his distaste for the actual rules.

With Pereira, there's no question though. His distaste is with Gruden.

Mike Pereira thinks Jon Gruden is a 'blowhard'

Imagine that. A blowhard calling someone a blowhard! Mike Pereira is an overly officious jerk who's world revolves around rules and regulations made by the politicians in the back room. He has spent his whole life justifying made up crap like the "tuck rule". On the other hand Gruden as a coach has had to live with these mind numbing calls that rely on the politics of the moment in the NFL. Periera lives for the techancality of the scared rules. They justified his miserable existance until the league dumped him last season. It is clearly time for Mike to shut his mouth and stop criticizing men who are above his bureaucratic mediocracy.

Jon Gruden is a Poser AND a blowhard

It's odd for Pereira to be so critical of another - I can't say I recall him doing it until now. He's definitely on the right track with Gruden, who is a complete poser in my book. Straight out of the Jim Rome School of Affected Speech, Gruden slugs his way through words in an attempt to seem more macho than John Wayne. His sideline scowls were absolutely comical. I don't care if he lucked into a Superbowl - I could never take this clown seriously and I pray to God that the Chargers idiot owner doesn't fall for his amateur act and try to get him as their new HC. But he probably will - Spanos is the CA host for Rick Perry's Presidential campaign so he doesn't do well with picking competent winners.

That fucker Mike Perriair IS STILL doing damage control and saving face for the made up Tom Brady 'tuck' rule.  The Jets vs. Giants game there were TWO fumbles caused by the Giants defense that were called 'Tuck rule' or 'arm going forward' rule.  THAT IS THE MOST BS RULE EVER and it was because the NFL had to justify it being made up ON THE SPOT in order to get Brady into the superbowl. EVEN WITH THE TUCK RULE being what it was made up to be, IT WAS STILL A BS CALL and shouldn't have even been applied because Brady's arm STOPPED completely after the tuck and THEN the ball was knocked out by the defender.

The rule regarding what's a fumble and what's a pass should be like this:
IF a defender forces the ball out of a passer's hand BEFORE the passer releases the ball, it should be called a FUMBLE regardless of what direction the passer's arm is going.  IF the passer releases the ball before the defender makes contact that would force the ball out, it would be called a PASS as long as the ball travels FORWARD regardless of the direction the passer's arm is going. "A Fumble is a Fumble is a Fumble is a Fumble" - John Madden

I'm not a Gruden fan at all, but Pereira is a chode.  I've been listening to him spout his crap and defend bad calls for years (he used to come on for a short spot on the NFL network when he was the head of officals).  I understand you have to defend your officials, but to hear him talk, they never make a bad call.  This guy is a pompus ass, and I wish FOX would send him on his way so we wouldn't have to listen to his crap and everyone kiss his butt every week.

I think MNF on ESPN sucks big time!  Bad announcers and even worse match ups!  It seemed like Jacksonville was on MNF 3 times!  Sunday night football really has taken the place of MNF as being the must see game of the week.

What gets me about Pereira is he was so in agreement about the Calvin Johnson catch in week one of last year that it was the right call, then this year Greg Jenning's had the same situation were he was bobbling the ball and went out of bounds before having control of the ballbut he said that was a good catch and touchdown. Pereira is the biggest tool I ever saw.

Thanks for the gramma leason - like a give a sh*t. I don't teach English, but I watch football & your b*thching & wining about the best teams in the league winning because the officials call games in their favor is why YOU ARE an idiot. You seam to complain alot why don't you do it somewhere else. Or better yet just start routing for the colts, steelers Saints or Pats and then you can shut the f*k up. Out
