The Steelers will face the Broncos in Sunday's wild-card game without their starting running back. Rashard Mendenhall, the team's 2008 first-round pick, has a torn ACL, according to Rapid Reporter Chuck Finder (via the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette). Head coach Mike Tomlin hinted after Sunday's win over the Browns that Mendenhall could be out for some time and tests have confirmed those fears.

Now Pittsburgh will lean heavily on Isaac Redman, and undrafted rookie free agent John Clay, who didn't get his first carry until Week 16 against the Rams. Veteran Mewelde Moore could also be an option if he has recovered from a knee injury suffered in San Francisco two weeks ago.

Prior to the regular-season finale in Cleveland, the biggest injury issue for the Steelers centered around the health of their franchise quarterback, Ben Roethlisberger. Big Ben suffered a high-ankle sprain three weeks ago during the first meeting between Pittsburgh and Cleveland. He limped his way through a loss against the 49ers but sat out last week's victory over the Rams.

In addition to Mendenhall, Pittsburgh could also be without cornerbacks Cortez Allen and Keenan Lewis, who suffered shoulder and hamstring injuries, respectively, in Cleveland. Safety Ryan Clark may also miss the Broncos game because of sickle-cell trait that is triggered when he plays football at high altitudes. His status will be decided later in the week.

Pittsburgh Steelers' running back, Isaac Redman, carried the ball 19 times for 92 yards and a touchdown in a 13-9 victory over the Cleveland Browns. Join CBS Sports' Kevin Harlan and Solomon Wilcots for a recap of all the action.

Steelers RB Rashard Mendenhall has torn ACL

My biggest fear (as expressed this past Saturday on the Steelers Fanatics page here on CBS [here is the link: ] about playing the regulars in the game against the Cleveland Browns that for all intent and purposes was meaningless has come true with the season ending injury to Rashard Mendenhall. For those who don't think that losing Mendenhall is that big of a deal you are deluding yourselves. When you are trying to put a playoff game away by using the run game to run out the clock you want a stud back who will keep the chains moving while not putting the ball on the ground and that is what Mendenhall does well.
Thanks alot Tomlin for another one of your brilliant player personnel decisions (see: decision to play Ben Roethlisberger against the San Francisco 49ers in the second half).

BYTE ME.  Excuse?  I love how your team beats us twice for one year and all of a sudden your team is unbeatable.  Talk to be us when Flacco actually wins a real game that counts.  Did the Ravens beat the Steelers twice?  Absolutely.  But the playoffs are a different season and as we proved to you guys in the post season last year, you have to be prepared to play four quarters to win the game.  Your team hasn't proven that yet.  But, I understand your frustration and hatred for us being that we have owned your team in the playoffs and have been way more successful over the years.  I would be jealous too.  If making these type of idiotic posts make you feel better, then go right ahead.  But, grown ups feel better when there team wins.

Not that mendy being hurt is a good thing, but it's about time Redman gets his shot. His performance in cleveland is overshadowed by his two fumbles, which yes are a thing of concern, but if he can hold onto the ball he presents a whole new threat the steelers didnt realize they had. I've said ever since they drafted Rashard that I didn't like the pick or his style of play, although he has come through and had some big games for the team. Hopefully Redman shows the coaches what they have been too blind to see now. Give the guy 20 carries a game and I dont think there will be any disappointment.

Anyways, the Steeler defense is far too much for Tim Tebow and a vastly overrated Denver offense to handle. Game ends in an expected blow-out. 28-6 Steelers.

I don't believe he really tore his ACL, I think it is all just an elaborate hoax like 9-11.

Neither of the 2 corners are "Starters" they do play a decent amount in Nickel and Dime packages tho... Gay and Taylor are the every down corners... My biggest concern is a healthy Lamarr Woodley... our pass rush is nothing without both book ends. Should be an interesting game... but I think you know who used up all his magic early in the season

Steelers RB Rashard Mendenhall has torn ACL

Mendenhall has had some good games but hasnt been to impresive this year. As far as Redman has scared me against the Browns recently with 2 fumbles after great runs. I think if he focuses better in this game we will have a good chance. Last year the Packers had a rookie named Starks and see what happened there. Mayby Clay is our Starks this year. I believe Steelers can make it back this year. Im still going with that and for you Baltimore fans maybe if the refs stop handing you wins we would see how real your team is. Steelers4Superbowl!!!

It's a shame he's out but that's how it goes - we still have Issac. Hope he's back and 100% healthy for next season. I agree that Cincy and Pittsburgh should both win their games. If not, the Steelers go on to meet the worst defense in football in new england. Otherwise, we have the ravens. If I'm the ravens, I'm don't want to play Cincy or Pittsburgh a third time. They're just not that good and consisitent enough to beat either of those teams three times. Then again, what team really is that good and consistent this year? And, if I'm a ravens fan, I probably don't know how to tie my own shoes. So there you go.
