The New York Giants have a lot of confidence right now. That's totally understandable. But making guarantees about beating the defending-champion Packers, in Lambeau, already? That seems silly.

But it's not stopping Jason Pierre-Paul, who guaranteed a Giants win over the Packers on Sunday.

"We’re going to win," Pierre-Paul said, per Paul Schwartz of the New York Post. "One hundred percent we’re going to win ... because we’re the best."

Wild-Card Weekend Recap

The Giants are quite good. They might be the best team in the playoffs and it's great that JPP is confident. (Interestingly, the only quotes to make it onto the Giants official site are the follow-ups about how sure JPP is.) He should be, given the way the Giants dismantled Atlanta's offense on Sunday afternoon.

But the vibe we get from him is that the Packers aren't as pumped up about a rematch against the Giants. And that's simply not the case. There are plenty of guys on this roster who remember what happened back the last time the Giants won the Super Bowl.

"The team that kept us from our potential Super Bowl in 08 is back on OUR turf now," Jennings tweeted on Sunday. "Trust me,we haven't forgotten. Here. We ... GoPackGo! #BeGreat"

What's interesting to us is the heavy amount of comparisons to the 2007 season. Obviously, there are some similarities. But there are a lot of differences as well. For one, the Packers are better. (And maybe the Giants are better too.)

“We might be a better team than we were in ’07, but I think Green Bay is a better than they were in ’07, too," Tuck said per our Giants Rapid Reporter Alex Raskin.

The more logical comparison, then, is to the last time these teams played. Which, uh, was this year. That game was played in New York, but the Packers still managed to win 38-35.

Which is why, regardless of how confident Pierre-Paul is, he might want to consider scaling back any public declarations about the outcome of the game until victory is actually in hand.

Pierre-Paul guarantees Giants win over Packers

wisgc -- if Jennings plays, he's not 100%.  With a healthy Jennings, GB is unbeatable.  Wasn't aware he was playing (just googled and saw the article where he says he's back and good, etc).  Is he really 100%?

So good games this week...  Eli vs. Aaron, Brees vs. defense+outdoors, Tebow/John3:16/God vs. the Evil Empire, and 3rdStringYates+best AFC team+Andre vs. Flacco & Blackn'Blue...  along with all the #1 this vs the #1 that...  great play-off weekend...

Go Broncos!

Pierre-Paul guarantees Giants win over Packers

I'm so tired of hearing overly arrogant players guaranteeing wins. Just shut up and play already! Anyone who's a true professional thinks their team is going to win so why does it have to be said? Better yet, why does the media feel the need to run a story every time someone does guarantee victory?! The Giants played their best game of their season against Green Bay and still lost...AT HOME! You don't hear Aaron Rodgers runnin his mouth, do you?

Pierre-Paul guarantees Giants win over Packers

badger91 - Lighten up, Francis.  A 23-year old kid blurted this statement out 30 minutes after a playoff win.  You can put away your soapbox and save the lecture.  Geesh.

The bottom line is that this is the Divisional round of the playoffs, and many of these same Packers were on that 2007-2008 team.  Trust me.  They are plenty motivated.

Pierre-Paul guarantees Giants win over Packers

Because those 13 championships mean a whole lot this weekend!  How much did they mean the last time the Giants played the Packers in the playoffs as major underdogs and still won at Lambeau Field!

And of the 13 championships, 2 were won in the last 40 years.  So I see you like not being in the moment, but instead dreaming about the past.  Maybe you "should" not even watch the game, and put on a video of the 2010 Packers season, lol!

Pierre-Paul guarantees Giants win over Packers

You are missing the point.  It really doesn't matter how many championships GB has won. They are a historic franchise. The point is, FOR A FOOTBALL FAN WITHOUT A PONY IN THE FIGHT, this is a great weekend. You guys who are fans failing to see that.
In one game, we have The Tebows vs. Lord Vader aka Bill Belichick and the Evil Empire. This is hugely intruiging.

Then you have the Ravens and here is hoping they are not looking at the Texans and their 3rd string QB and play down to the competition.

In the NFC, you have the history making Drew Brees against Harbaugh's tough nosed defensive style.

Then you have the best matchup of any two QB's- Rodgers vs. Eli Manning who both have made a monster season. You have matchups galore with questions: Can the Giants D-Line get to Aaron Rodgers before his WR exploit the secondary?
Can the Pack's secondary stop the WR's of the Giants?
Can the Pack get to Eli?

These are great matchups and I for one will watch every minute of every game. I do however love to participate in pissing contests so I will offer mine to the mix-

Philly fans- you were the dream team remember? I remember that prediction. Great call. Didn't hear any of you guys rejecting that claim pre-season.

GB fans- remember one thing- without the Mara family (owners of a big market team like the Giants) having forethought and vision andbuying into the philosophy of revenue sharing, you wouldn't have a team right now.

Pierre-Paul guarantees Giants win over Packers

Sorry, I didn't hear you...I was busy counting GBs record 13 championships and dusting off last year's Super Bowl trophy.  Now what were you saying about the Giants?  Crying about calls as an excuse or something to that effect.  Perhaps you can spend some of that anger looking up the difference between "would" and "could."

Not to worry, you'll have plenty of time during the off-season after you lose this weekend.

Pierre-Paul guarantees Giants win over Packers

So, JPP guarantees a win over the Packers...really a guarantee.  Well, if he is 100% convinced of victory how does he plan to back-up his guarantee.  Perhaps he should offer to donate his entire season's salary to charity in the event the they lose.  I mean with a 100% guarantee, there's no risk whatsoever.

Or perhaps he should declare that he will retire from football in the event the Giants lose...because it's something that would never come to pass according to JPP.

I mean of course the Giants are guaranteed a victory, just look at the evidence...as JPP says, the Giant are "the best there is."

The 9-8 Giants have a better record than the 15-1 Packers...ummm.

The Giants won the last time GB played them in December in NY when the score was GB 38- NY 35...ummm.

Well that doesn't matter because the game is at Lambeau and the last time the Giants played there they won when the score was GB 45- NY 17....ummm.

Well the Giants have beaten all of the remaining NFC playoff teams this season...except GB, NO and SF...all of whom they lost to this season...ummm.

The Giants have better offensive stats than GB, except in categories like: points per game, yards per game, passing yards per game, rushing yards per game....ummm.

The Giants have a better QB, except when it comes to categories like record, rating, TDs, Interceptions, completion percentage, yards per game....ummm.

The Giants give up fewer points than GB...yup, NY gives up 25 to GBs 22.4...ummm.

When you look at it that way, how can you possible argue with JPP.  You can pity the poor fool, you just can't argue with him because he probably wouldn't grasp the concept.

Go Pack Go!

Pierre-Paul guarantees Giants win over Packers

This should be good, I know where he gets this seems a couple of weeks ago the Packers were down a few O-Line men. I doubt if they have gotten better in the 3 weeks so I see him having a big day.

Pierre-Paul guarantees Giants win over Packers

So what does anyone expect Pierre-Paul to say when asked about the game and if they are gonna win??? Should he have said "Uh, I dunno...maybe we will win but they are sooo good, I think we will probably lose"????? C'mon man, a winer always thinks he/she is going to win - if you asked the Packers that question they'd say the same thing.
