Tim Tebow did a lot of things Sunday that no one expected (like throw for exactly 316 passing yards). One such thing: unlocking a $250,000 bonus in his contract for winning a playoff game.

A clause in Tebow's contract paying him that money was activated on Sunday night according to Adam Schefter of ESPN, when Tebow won a playoff game. For every playoff game that Tebow wins, provided he's taken 70 percent of his team's snaps in a season, he gets an additional $250,000.

Tebowmania

We already knew that Tebow unlocked a $472,000 bonus for playing in more than 45 percent of his team's snaps back in December.

Closing out the season as the starter, Tebow passed the 70-percent threshold and now is owed an additional $250 GRR.

If the Broncos somehow manage to topple New England, Tebow will be in line for an additional bonus. (And the same is true up through the Super Bowl, giving Tebow the potential to earn an extra ... one million dollars.)

And you know what's almost as funny as Austin Powers jokes? Thinking back to before the season and imagining a world where Tebow not only played in 73 percent of the Broncos plays in 2011, but discussing the possibility of him making an extra quarter-million as a result of beating the Steelers in the playoffs.

Yet, somehow, here we are.

I can envision a scenerio in which the Broncos pull the upset.  It starts with turnovers as a base.  Add a little bit of bad weather.  Sprinkle some efficient pass rush.  And decorate it with a good running game that swallows time clock.

Good man Lotus. At least you know when to give credit where credit is due.  The reality is that he's not and will probably never be a top flight quarterback, but he IS a legitimate NFL Quarterback and he is the kind of player that can lead a team in this league on a regular basis.

Even if you dismiss his skillset, it's impossible to ignore how difficult it's going to be to defend the read option on a regular basis.  As Trent Dilfer said, it is three reactions that the defense needs to make and that's an overload.  There are literally only 2 or 3 quarterbacks in the league with the skillset and durability to run this offense, with Cam Newton being another.  Tebow and this offense are suited for playoff games, where the defense is pressing on every play.  I don't know if he'll ever be able to translate this offense into a juggernaut where they zip down the field and score enough to compete with high powered teams but it will certainly work against the majority of the NFL.

I don't like the matchup against the Pats.  I can't envision a scenario where they score enough points to win this game, but nonetheless, I think Tebow has made critics eat crow to the point where they should at least respect what he brings to the table.

brys_leafs:  Your post is probably the most inane and absurd I have read regarding the Broncos and Tim Tebow.

nobody else is sick of tebowmania yet?  Not too many people stupid...unless they are Steelers fans.  By the way, next time to hide your stupidity try, "Is anybody else sick of Tebowmania yet?"  This isn't the third grade, you should know how to phrase your put downs.

pits was depleted and injured   Really....every team has players injured at this point of the season.  Excuses are for losers.

denver has no shot of winning this week as we had already seen late in the season..... Again...no shot of winning?  Laughable.  They didn't have a shot this past weekend either did they.  Again...next time try:  "Denver is going to have a tough time winning since we all witnessed how New England handled them late in the season."  Try that next time and maybe nobody will think you are so stupid.

new england needs to pump them and not stop, just so all of these believers can stop.... Huh?  Pump them and not stop?  What the hell is that?  I don't even know where to go with that.  Regarding the last half of the statement, "just so all of these believers can stop"...again..what are you talking about?  Christ followers or believers in Tebow and the Broncos.

The English language can be an ugly thing when put in the hands of those who do not know how to use it.  Next time when you think you have something meaningful to post.....stop.....and do not begin to type.  Walk away from the keyboard and save everyone the pain of reading your mistake ridden CRAP.

And well-earned. After his late-season struggles, he came back to play far better - in the playoffs, no less. May be the most well-earned money he's made all year...

I would say that he should split that 50/50 with Demaryius Thomas.

Why? Does Thomas have that in his contract? Thomas did his job, and that's all he did. He did it very well, but we are all expected to do our jobs to the best of our ability. The man (Thomas) did what he is paid to do.
This is the sort of attitude that makes players feel entitled to hold-out after a good season. I know that in private business I can get more money for good performance, but it's apples and oranges. In Private business I can go to another company (as long as I don't have a CONTRACT). He got them TO the playoffs. Tebow earned the money. He can give his 10% to the church and spend all the rest on bibles or hookers or whatever he wants.
I'm rootin' for Denver to go all the way now. Their D may be able to hold the Pat's O partially in check. I wouldn't bet on this next game foir either side. Too risky.

It is interesting that the two quarterbacks that the so called experts deemed not ready for the NFL have had this much success. Tebow and Newton!!!
