As you've likely realized by now, Brian Schottenheimer is out as the offensive coordinator of the Jets and reports are that Tony Sparano's on his way in. So the team's in upheaval right now. It won't help matters that some Jets players anonymously and publicly ripped quarterback Mark Sanchez on Wednesday morning.

Manish Mehta of the New York Daily News has the story, and it's a doozy, with Jets players referring to Sanchez as "lazy," a "baby" and someone that can't win in New York.

Nightmare in New York

“We have to bring in another quarterback that will make him work at practice,” one player told Mehta. "He’s lazy and content because he knows he’s not going to be benched."

Mehta also writes that the "consensus among players" he spoke to is that the Jets need a change at quarterback, or at least a capable veteran to push Sanchez into better performances.

And the top choice for that veteran position seems to be ... Peyton Manning!

“We already have his coach — Tom Moore," one player, who Mehta calls well-respected, said. "Plus, he’s a field general and will get everyone lined up. He will get his playmakers the ball. We can win a Super Bowl with Peyton."

The issue with Peyton is that it's not as simple as "grabbing him and dumping Sanchez." First, Manning has to get cut/released/put on the trading block by the Colts. Then he has to want to come to the Jets.

Whatever, it could happen, but let's not put the cart before the horse, especially when it requires Manning wanting to play in the same locker room that just firmly shoved its current quarterback (and erstwhile leader) under the bus, calling him a "baby" in the process.

"They don’t want to be truthful with him," one player said about the way the team handled Sanchez. "They treat him like a baby instead of a man. He goes in a hole when someone tells him the truth."

See, looks like a really fun place to play. Come on down Peyton. But really, anonymously shredding the starting quarterback for a team -- besides being, ironically, lazy in its own right -- doesn't usually mean that there only needs to be one change.

UPDATED (7:33 p.m. ET): One of Sanchez's teammates has come to the rescue. That would be center Nick Mangold who tweeted today that Sanchez's accuser should "man up" and put his name with his criticism.

"That's just wrong," said Mangold, when asked today by ESPN about the comment that Sanchez was lazy. "I've never seen anybody work as hard as Mark has. I support him fully and I think the locker room does as well."

Jets players rip 'lazy' Mark Sanchez, want Peyton

Hey soxfan519 - no way this is a given with the current Jets team and overrated defense.  If you said that 2 years ago with that defense I might say within the top 5, but now no way!

As for the Bills you guys have a team that is up and coming!  I like the QB, RB's, and receivers, but need consistency.  Defense was great in the beginning but tailed off greatly.  I think that the coach will remain for at least one more year but if the same happens again next year they will go for a big name.
As for the Jets what else can I say about them that I despise them as well. Funny thing is when the Giants beat the Pats in the Super Bowl in 2008 it was a big letdown, but easily got over it.  With the Jets they are a freak show that is very hard to like, except for the ESPN su** ups!!!

I am a HUGE bills fan, always have been and always will be. That being said, I hate the jets. I've stated many times on numerous posts that I can't stand them. Hate em, hate em, hate em. Admittedly though, Fat Rex does makes me laugh. But as a whole, I despise them. I would rather get herpes than watch the Jets win the super bowl. However, I will say this...If the the jets get Manning (and i know it's a stretch to think he'll land in NY) but if they do, that's a wrap. Game over, Jets win the super bowl next year and Fat Rex goes to disney world.

what really surprises about this poor unfortunate individual is that his mother leaves him in the dark in her basement and allows him to play on the computer at all hours ... poor stupid fool! watch as people begin to ignore you even more!

this should fire him up a bit ...have a good night all and sorry for you jet fans!

Forget that fool and his BS. The facts are that the Jets are insignificant in respect to actually playing the game. They have not won a championship in nearly 5 decades. Now, the entire organization is crumbling with the players and coaches pointing fingers at each other and you can expect that the Jets will be rebuilding for the next 3-5 yars. Any player or coach worth anything will look to run for the hills during the offseason. Don't be suprised if Revis and Mangold demand to be traded. They did Schottenheimer a favor and let him go. He was just one of many scapegoats that Tubby had lined up. The next logical scapegoat is Sadchize. However, after the Jets dump Schottenheimer and bench Sadchize, Tubby's protection is blown. So when the Jets come in at under .500 and last place next year, its Tubby's head on the chopping block. Maybe this all is being set up by Woody. The Jets owner cannot be happy with Tubby turning the Jet organization into the Crying Circus. The clock is ticking on Tubby now, and when you hear that huge thud next year, that will be Tubby being thrown out of the Jet Circus tent. I really feel sorry for the poor Jet fans as they have no past, no present and no future. However, you can't feel sorry for some of the foolish Jet fans, but you can pity them. As for me, I'll be watching my team play their second round of playoffs this weekend. But, win or lose, my team will come out of it with class.

You would think people who play such a violent sport would have the balls to tell this to Sanchez's face, not through the media.  Something tells me most of this is coming from Holmes...

Agreed, and this is why Sanchez is NOT improving, because it appears as if no one wants the job in mentoring this young man.  Bring in a veteran, doesn't have to be Peyton Manning, it could be any tried-and-true veteran, he needs to learn how to be a leader, and what better way than to bring in a leader for him to work with.

wing - this guy is a joke.. in fact that is the way i look at .. my posts usually are sarcastic and attempt at some humour... life is too  short and some of the things i see daily assures that i like to use this as recreation and enjoyment ...

not a lot of merit can be put into many of the reporting accounts and the only items we can really confirm sre those items that are based upon factually numbers etc that is why this should be enjoyable whether as a debate or comedy ... just my opinion of course!

at the end of the day who cares who you cheer for? as a lion fan, thats right i said it, there hasnt been a lot to be real proud of sent herman moore, but now we can finally feel confident that we ARE competitive and will be in the future! so people like cueball do not faze me.

keep on posting wing see ya on the boards!

this should fire him up!!!!!!!!!!!!

Intelligent, and a Jets fan...sounds like an oxymoron.  Players on the field, in-practice, within the locker-room know what's truly going on.  Sanchez has not progressed.  Fact.  Sanchez needs a mentor, someone to go to for questions, someone to study and teach him how to review game film.  Teach him the work ethics of the field general...something he has not had since he's been there.  I don't 100% agree that Peyton Manning has to be the answer as any tried and true leader could do this.  If the Jets organization is looking to bring in Peyton, Sanchez's career in a JETS uniform is over.

the sparano hiring is downright puzzling!!

but before I rip it,  let me respond to the Sanchez talk.

there is no need to throw out a potential franchize QB.  the O line needs work, but Sanchez can win withthe right players behind him.

Who wouldn't want Peyton Manning?  but is he healthy?   dont dumo Sanchez until you at least have a replacement!!!
