As you've likely realized by now, Brian Schottenheimer is out as the offensive coordinator of the Jets and reports are that Tony Sparano's on his way in. So the team's in upheaval right now. It won't help matters that some Jets players anonymously and publicly ripped quarterback Mark Sanchez on Wednesday morning.

Manish Mehta of the New York Daily News has the story, and it's a doozy, with Jets players referring to Sanchez as "lazy," a "baby" and someone that can't win in New York.

Nightmare in New York

“We have to bring in another quarterback that will make him work at practice,” one player told Mehta. "He’s lazy and content because he knows he’s not going to be benched."

Mehta also writes that the "consensus among players" he spoke to is that the Jets need a change at quarterback, or at least a capable veteran to push Sanchez into better performances.

And the top choice for that veteran position seems to be ... Peyton Manning!

“We already have his coach — Tom Moore," one player, who Mehta calls well-respected, said. "Plus, he’s a field general and will get everyone lined up. He will get his playmakers the ball. We can win a Super Bowl with Peyton."

The issue with Peyton is that it's not as simple as "grabbing him and dumping Sanchez." First, Manning has to get cut/released/put on the trading block by the Colts. Then he has to want to come to the Jets.

Whatever, it could happen, but let's not put the cart before the horse, especially when it requires Manning wanting to play in the same locker room that just firmly shoved its current quarterback (and erstwhile leader) under the bus, calling him a "baby" in the process.

"They don’t want to be truthful with him," one player said about the way the team handled Sanchez. "They treat him like a baby instead of a man. He goes in a hole when someone tells him the truth."

See, looks like a really fun place to play. Come on down Peyton. But really, anonymously shredding the starting quarterback for a team -- besides being, ironically, lazy in its own right -- doesn't usually mean that there only needs to be one change.

UPDATED (7:33 p.m. ET): One of Sanchez's teammates has come to the rescue. That would be center Nick Mangold who tweeted today that Sanchez's accuser should "man up" and put his name with his criticism.

"That's just wrong," said Mangold, when asked today by ESPN about the comment that Sanchez was lazy. "I've never seen anybody work as hard as Mark has. I support him fully and I think the locker room does as well."

If "Lazy" means he flat out SUCKS .. then, ya, Stankchize is REALLY LAZY!  lol   As for the forever .500 J-E-T-S ...  you're still the laughing stock of the league.  You've been looking up at New England's butt for so long ur goggles have gotten muddy.  NO WAY Peyton would ever want to come to that sham of a team.   The Jests are a joke ... always have been a joke .. always will be a joke.

Kind of like Animal House rather than a professional sports team in the largest domestic market. Must make you proud.

Let the finger pointing begin.  The Jets have a lot more problems than QB, start with the coach when it comes to ripping someone.  Peyton will not be taking another snap in the NFL.

I thought drafting Sanchez was a steal for the Jets? LOL. Guess Detroit drafted the right QB, Stafford is a MONSTER

I remember those days.  LOL.   I remember all the nonesense talk about how the Lions made a mistake drafting Stafford and that he was overrated coming out of college.  I remember after 2 seasons people telling me on these boards that Stafford would never play a complete season, bla bla bla.   Pretty sure Stafford had a year Sanchez couldn't have if you gave him 2 Calvin Johnsons to work with. Stafford's arm strength, accuracy, poise and football i.q is on another planet compared to where Sanchez is in those categories.

Sorry Jets fans, but Manning would never want to come to New York and play for a team headed by Rex Ryan populated with a bunch of jackasses.  Manning is a leader who doesn't talk but leads.  He is intense and will curse out his own players if they don't live up to his standards.  Ryan has to be the focus of his team.  He and Peyton could not coexist.  Peyton would suffer Ryan for about 10 minutes before realizing Ryan is all style no substance.  As for the Jets players, it is apparent they are all "me first" type guys, similar to their coach.  They would hate Manning telling them where to line up and how to play in order to succeed.  They might say they want that, but the Jets coach and players have proven over time that they are more concerned with individual achievement than team achievement.

Pats don't need a back up QB when Mallet is sitting on the bench right?

I don't want to bust anyone from NY's bubbles but I know for a fact that Peyton Manning is 85 percent certain he will not take another snap in the NFL. His neck fusions are serious buisness and 1 bad hit could injure him permanently. An Indy beat writer who has posted this very thing in the Indy Star said Peyton endorsed them getting Luck because he knows he may not play again. He did say if the situation changed the door was always open but if so he wanted to stay in Indy and help bring Luck along for the following year.

With all due respect, you don't anything for "a fact" and I'll tell you why.  First of all although neck fusions are serious business, most of you don't understand enough about a neck fusion to be commenting on them.  My father in law recently had basically the same neck fusion Peyton had, very close to it.  It either fuses or it doesn't... if it takes, a few months later the person can lead a normal life.  If it doesn't, repeat surgeries are necessary and the person doesn't lead a normal life.  But if it does fuse properly, it doesn't come undone from a hard hit or fall, it doesn't normally work that way.

And I'll say it again... Unless Peyton is willing to allow the Colts to cut him and sign for cheap ( not likely ) there is not a chance in hell the Colts write him a 28 million dollar check in a couple months and pay him 35 million to mentor Luck during his rookie season. Where do you people get this stuff from?  Maybe to you these owners are playing with monopoly money, but in their mind it's not fake... it's real money man.

The only way the Colts honor Manning's deal is if and only if he's going to start for the Colts.  And not just for one season, but at least 2, if not 3 of the final 4 years left on that deal.   And if that's going to be the case the Colts will trade the number 1 overall pick because I guarantee you Luck has no interest in sitting for long.  There are plenty of teams that would allow Luck a chance to start in his rookie season, which is exactly what that kid wants to do.

Maybe so, but because a Jets player or two says they want Peyton Manning, why are you all getting your hopes up and letting your imaginations run wild?

Only his coaches and teammates know if he's lazy, but he's definatley not a Super Bowl winner in the making.  I'd take 10 QBs over Sanchez including Flynn with Green Bay and the Jets should too.  They haven't taken the QB position serious in 40 years.  Manning is one of the all-time greats, but just like Favre - the Jets may be getting him too late.  It would make for an awesome Jets vs. Giants, Manning vs. Manning game though.
