As you've likely realized by now, Brian Schottenheimer is out as the offensive coordinator of the Jets and reports are that Tony Sparano's on his way in. So the team's in upheaval right now. It won't help matters that some Jets players anonymously and publicly ripped quarterback Mark Sanchez on Wednesday morning.

Manish Mehta of the New York Daily News has the story, and it's a doozy, with Jets players referring to Sanchez as "lazy," a "baby" and someone that can't win in New York.

Nightmare in New York

“We have to bring in another quarterback that will make him work at practice,” one player told Mehta. "He’s lazy and content because he knows he’s not going to be benched."

Mehta also writes that the "consensus among players" he spoke to is that the Jets need a change at quarterback, or at least a capable veteran to push Sanchez into better performances.

And the top choice for that veteran position seems to be ... Peyton Manning!

“We already have his coach — Tom Moore," one player, who Mehta calls well-respected, said. "Plus, he’s a field general and will get everyone lined up. He will get his playmakers the ball. We can win a Super Bowl with Peyton."

The issue with Peyton is that it's not as simple as "grabbing him and dumping Sanchez." First, Manning has to get cut/released/put on the trading block by the Colts. Then he has to want to come to the Jets.

Whatever, it could happen, but let's not put the cart before the horse, especially when it requires Manning wanting to play in the same locker room that just firmly shoved its current quarterback (and erstwhile leader) under the bus, calling him a "baby" in the process.

"They don’t want to be truthful with him," one player said about the way the team handled Sanchez. "They treat him like a baby instead of a man. He goes in a hole when someone tells him the truth."

See, looks like a really fun place to play. Come on down Peyton. But really, anonymously shredding the starting quarterback for a team -- besides being, ironically, lazy in its own right -- doesn't usually mean that there only needs to be one change.

UPDATED (7:33 p.m. ET): One of Sanchez's teammates has come to the rescue. That would be center Nick Mangold who tweeted today that Sanchez's accuser should "man up" and put his name with his criticism.

"That's just wrong," said Mangold, when asked today by ESPN about the comment that Sanchez was lazy. "I've never seen anybody work as hard as Mark has. I support him fully and I think the locker room does as well."

The best thing that Sanchez could do for himself would be to spend the off season working with Tebow.  Perhaps just a bit of Tebow's drive, hard work, leadership and attitude might rub off on him.

As for Manning in NY, that would be funny.  Either the team could throw him under the bus if they don't win, or he could throw THEM under the bus for not winning.  It seems like all of you Manning worshipers have forgotten about the SB, and how Saint Manning, rather than taking the blame for losing, blamed his offensive line for the loss.  Sounds like a nice fit to me.  One big whiner playing for a team of whiners.

Hey I am a Patriots fan, big time, even though I live in Colorado and I kind of have to agree with Dynasty of Pats remark.  It wouldn't be bad to have a back-up QB to Brady.  I know Sanchez wouldn't be happy being a back-up,
No offense fellow Patriots fanatic, but I said that Peyton should come back up Brady ... and I was being sarcastic!

All I want to hear are the people who actually debated who was better Sanchez or Stafford coming out of that draft...and how about those people behind Freeman?  I agree the Jets need to make a move NOW and make it fast while you still have a team together.  If they cannot land Manning they need to still bring in another vet that can push or even take over.  I do not know who is a free agent at QB but right now Matt Flynn is looking good over Sanchez...LOL.

<span style="color: #000000;">This is a professional sport. In any other business the guy causing the problem should be fired. Management should take a look at the whole team. There is no pointing the fingers....the other team had to score more points than the jets. Does that mean they fire the whole defense???? Please whoever made these comments seems to be the "baby". Stop blaming someone else for the teams failures. If you don't like it get in and work harder. Time to grow up Jets!!

Based on what? That the Colts are probably gonna take Andrew Luck? Don't you think the Colts want Manning to mentor Luck?

All those fools do is pipe dream! Hahahahaha

Not a chance in hell Manning and Luck are signed to deals in Indi for next season.... ZERO chance man.  They aren't going to pay Manning towards the end of his career 35 million dollars for one season to mentor anybody.  That's crazy talk.... sure, the rookie cap makes it half way possible but it aint gonna happen dude.

There are already a lot of stories out talking about how Peyton and the Colts have agreed to delay his 28 million dollar payment for a few days past the due date so they can field offers from other teams. There is a freeze on player movement for 5 days after his big bonus is due, both sides want to see what's out there in a trade.

Indi isn't likely to win anything with Manning for the next 3 or 4 years, what sense does it make to keep him?  And if they do keep him and honor the last 4 years of his contract, why would they pay him 35 million next season to mentor anybody when they have him signed for 3 more years after that for 8, 9 and 10 million dollars respectively?  Luck isn't going to sit on the bench for 4 years for anybody, not even to be mentored by Manning.   If they wanted to keep Manning they would trade the rights to luck... they don't have the luxury of keeping both like some people think they do.  It doesn't make sense.. there is a salary cap in the NFL as well... it's just crazy thinking.

I don't want to bust anyone from NY's bubbles but I know for a fact that Peyton Manning is 85 percent certain he will not take another snap in the NFL. His neck fusions are serious buisness and 1 bad hit could injure him permanently. An Indy beat writer who has posted this very thing in the Indy Star said Peyton endorsed them getting Luck because he knows he may not play again. He did say if the situation changed the door was always open but if so he wanted to stay in Indy and help bring Luck along for the following year.

Let's also be honest, why would he ever want to play for a yuck like Ryan. Ridiculus predictions, putting all kinds of pressure on his players to pay for his loud mouth. Has zero offensive knowledge and now Sparano coming in. That is a laugh a second. Sanchez was never the answer but 2 playoff games both of which if not for the defense he never would have won all of a suddden put him in Ryan's top ten. Please..The guys a back-up. Now even his own team is calling him lazy, etc. Do you really think any QB of Manning's statue would want to play alongside players like that. The jets need a new coach, rid themselves of the players who obviously play only for themselves and start over again to revive a franchise that once was always in the mix for a playoff run.

Jet fans have a very long ways to wait for this team as it is to do anything,if ever

This is precisely why these whiny ******* will never win a thing.
One question though; wasn't it Sanchez who was calling for and organizing those meetings the days leading up to the Jets Week 17 finale? Just to fine tune the offense and make sure their on the same page?
The same meetings that Santonio Holmes complained and pouted about and eventually blew off completely?
But apparently Sanchez is the "lazy" one.

Manning would go to New York in a second to play for the Jets.  It wasn't long ago the Jets won playoff games with a chump at qb, imagine if they had Manning to lead the way?  This Jets team regressed this past season, but don't kid yourself.  If they had a qb like Manning the rest of the league better take notice because the Jets become a superbowl threat.

Manning wouldn't be back stabbed in New York by the players like Sanchez is, he would be treated like a God in New York.  And for the people worried about what Ryan thinks, don't worry because he supports it or they would fire him so fast it would make his fat head spin.  Ryan has ZERO SAY or input when it comes to something like this.  If this was about to happen the GM would call Ryan in and tell him Peyton is coming in and Sanchez is gone.  If Ryan blinks the wrong way he gets fired on the spot.... it's that simple.   If he as much as has a question about it he might get fired.
Dude, where do you get your information from?

Maybe you're in the wrong business!

You're really an NFL insider!

Jets players rip 'lazy' Mark Sanchez, want Peyton

A year ago at this time the Jets were about to face the Steelers after upsetting the Pats in the Divisional round. Now NE is about to kill the team that eliminated Pitt while the Jets have completely self-destructed in an almost Red Sox-like fashion, except with more infighting and ugliness. It's glorious how things can turn around so quickly, isn't it?
