As you've likely realized by now, Brian Schottenheimer is out as the offensive coordinator of the Jets and reports are that Tony Sparano's on his way in. So the team's in upheaval right now. It won't help matters that some Jets players anonymously and publicly ripped quarterback Mark Sanchez on Wednesday morning.

Manish Mehta of the New York Daily News has the story, and it's a doozy, with Jets players referring to Sanchez as "lazy," a "baby" and someone that can't win in New York.

Nightmare in New York

“We have to bring in another quarterback that will make him work at practice,” one player told Mehta. "He’s lazy and content because he knows he’s not going to be benched."

Mehta also writes that the "consensus among players" he spoke to is that the Jets need a change at quarterback, or at least a capable veteran to push Sanchez into better performances.

And the top choice for that veteran position seems to be ... Peyton Manning!

“We already have his coach — Tom Moore," one player, who Mehta calls well-respected, said. "Plus, he’s a field general and will get everyone lined up. He will get his playmakers the ball. We can win a Super Bowl with Peyton."

The issue with Peyton is that it's not as simple as "grabbing him and dumping Sanchez." First, Manning has to get cut/released/put on the trading block by the Colts. Then he has to want to come to the Jets.

Whatever, it could happen, but let's not put the cart before the horse, especially when it requires Manning wanting to play in the same locker room that just firmly shoved its current quarterback (and erstwhile leader) under the bus, calling him a "baby" in the process.

"They don’t want to be truthful with him," one player said about the way the team handled Sanchez. "They treat him like a baby instead of a man. He goes in a hole when someone tells him the truth."

See, looks like a really fun place to play. Come on down Peyton. But really, anonymously shredding the starting quarterback for a team -- besides being, ironically, lazy in its own right -- doesn't usually mean that there only needs to be one change.

UPDATED (7:33 p.m. ET): One of Sanchez's teammates has come to the rescue. That would be center Nick Mangold who tweeted today that Sanchez's accuser should "man up" and put his name with his criticism.

"That's just wrong," said Mangold, when asked today by ESPN about the comment that Sanchez was lazy. "I've never seen anybody work as hard as Mark has. I support him fully and I think the locker room does as well."

I guess Pete Carroll's not looking too petty now eh? He knew MS need more work and maturing, not that another year at SC would have made him the apparent man he's not, but there's more to this than meets the eye. It's a shame because I like MS. Oh well, time to put on your big boy pants Mark.

It looks like Rex's house of cards is beginning to crumble.  In the NFL the coach has a major influence on the identity of the team and the Jets are beginning to show their true colors.  Rex needs to put his ego aside and "man up", then maybe his players will do the same.  These guys seem to forget that when you're pointing your finger at someone, there are 3 fingers pointing back at you.

While the NFL is a business and the Manning's have shown that, I could never see Peyton, fresh off neck surgery, in the twilight of his career placing himself in a daily comparison with Eli in the largest NFL market. While they are competitive brothers, this situation would be a detriment to both. Peyton will be scrutinized unlike he ever has and is putting himself in an all or nothing situation.

There is plenty of talent on the Jets. Is there enough to win a title with Peyton under center? Maybe. He must be healthy which will be a huge concern.

Most importantly, why would he want to go to a team that has already publicly turned on their QB? His snaps are numbered and he doesn't need to spend his time babysitting a bunch of punks, especially when the biggest is his coach.

Peyton keeps quiet and wins. Jets yap and choke.

Do not hire Tony Sparano! I swear this team is doing it's best to destroy itself. Get ready for a 7-9 season next year Jet fans. Are you serious with this?

Perhaps it's because I'm spoiled with Green Bay here in Wisconsin but it really seems like everytime I watch the Jets the play calling is too conservative. It's a pass happy league and we throw the ball almost every time. Insert Matt Flynn and get the same result. It seems it's the system and the play calling. I don't see how Matt Flynn is better than Sanchez. It seems the play calling and the style of play is the problem in New York. I'd get rid of that coach and start building a team the way Green Bay and New Orleans have. That's what is going to win super bowls going forward.

I love how this player is saying Mark Sanchez needs to be treated like a man yet they won't do the manly thing and say these things out in the open, they hide behind anonymity

Giant and Yankee fans high class?  Really?  I have been to Yankee games where an old man got shoved over, people got beer thrown on them, and the language was not fit for my child.  The Bronx can be full of animals and you are telling me that Yankee fans are high class?   And the fact that you also place Giant fans in that category tells me that you have never been to a Giants game either.  One game after a snowsotrm, fans were pelting players with snowballs and hitting other fans in the face (because the fat slobs have the aim of a grandmother and the skills of a slug).  Yeah, okay, high class Giant and Yankee fans - that's rich.  I'm not saying Met and Jet fans are any better but when you go see a Mets game, it's very much a family atmosphere (probably because the stadium is in the eastern Queens suburbs and the team doesn't have the pressure of winning and the intense fans that come along with that pressure).

Think a little next time you post.
