As you've likely realized by now, Brian Schottenheimer is out as the offensive coordinator of the Jets and reports are that Tony Sparano's on his way in. So the team's in upheaval right now. It won't help matters that some Jets players anonymously and publicly ripped quarterback Mark Sanchez on Wednesday morning.

Manish Mehta of the New York Daily News has the story, and it's a doozy, with Jets players referring to Sanchez as "lazy," a "baby" and someone that can't win in New York.

Nightmare in New York

“We have to bring in another quarterback that will make him work at practice,” one player told Mehta. "He’s lazy and content because he knows he’s not going to be benched."

Mehta also writes that the "consensus among players" he spoke to is that the Jets need a change at quarterback, or at least a capable veteran to push Sanchez into better performances.

And the top choice for that veteran position seems to be ... Peyton Manning!

“We already have his coach — Tom Moore," one player, who Mehta calls well-respected, said. "Plus, he’s a field general and will get everyone lined up. He will get his playmakers the ball. We can win a Super Bowl with Peyton."

The issue with Peyton is that it's not as simple as "grabbing him and dumping Sanchez." First, Manning has to get cut/released/put on the trading block by the Colts. Then he has to want to come to the Jets.

Whatever, it could happen, but let's not put the cart before the horse, especially when it requires Manning wanting to play in the same locker room that just firmly shoved its current quarterback (and erstwhile leader) under the bus, calling him a "baby" in the process.

"They don’t want to be truthful with him," one player said about the way the team handled Sanchez. "They treat him like a baby instead of a man. He goes in a hole when someone tells him the truth."

See, looks like a really fun place to play. Come on down Peyton. But really, anonymously shredding the starting quarterback for a team -- besides being, ironically, lazy in its own right -- doesn't usually mean that there only needs to be one change.

UPDATED (7:33 p.m. ET): One of Sanchez's teammates has come to the rescue. That would be center Nick Mangold who tweeted today that Sanchez's accuser should "man up" and put his name with his criticism.

"That's just wrong," said Mangold, when asked today by ESPN about the comment that Sanchez was lazy. "I've never seen anybody work as hard as Mark has. I support him fully and I think the locker room does as well."

They dont need to trade for campbell since hes a free agent anyway, but not sure campbell will succeed also. Hes a head case who sadly cant complete a pass under 20 yards. Manning would make the best sense, since the Colts need to rebuild anyway, they coul make out like bandits if they trade Manning and then trade Wayne.   They could have 3 top 15 picks or better if they play there cards right. Only thing i would see a problem is Peyton wanting to play in the same city as his bro. It would be fun and cool, but i dont thik peyton would want to have that rivalry with his brother for what QB runs this town. And i really dont think the plays would give Peyton any problems about anything in NY. Hes prob the best QB ever to playthe game. And he gets and demands respect from anyone in the league. Sadly i wish Miami would trade for Peyton but that wont happen unless we get Fisher as headcoach, a GM who has balls, and a owner who isnt retarded. Manning to Marshall would sound pretty sweet in South Beach.... i could see thae trio of Manning, Bush and Marshall a tier below the great Manning, Harrison, and James Era in Indy.

The Jets will NEVER win a Superbowl with Sanchez as QB and Ryan as Coach.  I hope I am wrong as I don't see either going anywhere anytime soon, but I fear I am right.

Jets real babies need a binky...

The Jets' players who are whining about their QB need to shut up and look in the mirror.  Any player who whines about another player to the press should be immediately traded or released.  Team personnel matters should be kept "inhouse."  As the writer alluded to, why would a Peyton Manning want to play with a bunch of spoiled brats whose idea of "professional" is the company they invite to their hotel rooms on the road?

I thought that firing the S&C coach last year was a big part of why they went from 11-5 to 8-8, but I was wrong.  It should be painfully obvious to anyone that the Jets' players now have a sense of entitlement and egos that are out of control.

Good luck winning five games next year.

Peyton will never play for the Jets unless they break the bank to get him in a Trade , The Colts are going to pay the Bonus then trade Peyton( with his 4 Year contract)The Colts would be crazy to just let him walk away , Oh and I bet if Bill Belichik and Josh Mcdaniels where coaching him he would be in the Pro Bowl , when Brady went down they took a unknown (matt Cassell) and turned him into a all pro  .....  COACHING has alot to do with it

Shocking!  You mean the Jets players would prefer having the one of the greatest QB's of all-time in Peyton Manning than Mark Sanchez???  I can't believe it!  This is just shocking news!!!

This is AWESOME... it gives everyone proof what we Pats fans have known for a long time:  The Jets are wannabes who try to trash talk their way to the top and implode when it does not work.  They will rat out other teams, criticize their own players, blame others for their shortcomings.  Their poster child is Santonio Holmes who was sent packing by Steelers after being the SB MVP.  The are a trashy reality show posing as a football team.
