Ryan Grigson, the Eagles director of player personnel, was named the next general manager of the Indianapolis Colts, the team announced on Wednesday.

Grigson interviewed for a second time in Indianapolis on Tuesday and emerged as the favorite to land the job.

There are a number of issues Grigson will face when he steps into his new role, but the two hardest decisions may not even be on him. Colts owner Jim Irsay's said that he'll be handling the call as to whether or not Peyton Manning is retained and it's believed that the Colts are all but locked-in on Andrew Luck as the No. 1-overall pick in the 2012 NFL Draft.

One interesting aspect of Grigson leaving the Eagles after nine years is what will happen with Jim Caldwell. Caldwell's job is still safe, in theory, but it's hard to imagine that a new general manager would want an old coach running the show.

It may depend on what ends up happening with Manning, but Albert Breer of the NFL Network points to an interesting name: Marty Mornhinweg, the Eagles offensive coordinator.

Mornhinweg got a shot at a head-coaching gig once, but it didn't turn out too well: he went 5-27 with the Detroit Lions in 2001 and 2002.

It's believed that, at the very least, Grigson will end up bringing along some personnel with him to Indy, which could make for some interesting changes in Philadelphia as well. Grigson was promoted to director of player personnel in 2010 after four years as the director of college scouting.

Please fire Caldwell. Please don't hire Mornhinweg. We need a defensive coach. As long as Peyton is there, the offense will be fine, and I don't think Peyton is going anywhere.

I think this a good move...he's made a lot of good free agency moves and trades in Philly...now is it jusy me or does anyone else think Jeff Fisher is dragging his feet on the Rams job to see what happens in Indy?!

Don't the Eagles have 9 playoff appereances in the last 11 years? Five NFC Championship appearences? One Superbowl apperence? All that money the city and orginazation must have made through that run? Winning the Big game is a bit of chance, I think everyone can agree to that. To say atleast Tampa has a SB win (one of the weaker teams to ever win it). Where have they been since?

No I am not an Eagles fan. Just saying...

Wow -  I would never hire anyone from the Eagles organization -  The Eagles curse could rub off on the Colts -  The Eagles have had planty of talent, so I guess this guy was doing his job -  But they just SUCK and can't win the big one -  BWahahahahaha -  Even Tampa Bay has a SB win.  The Rams have their SB win.  But the Eagles have NO SB win.   Because they SUUUUCK!

1st order of business: FIRE CALDWELL!! But please don't bring in Marty, Indy is too good of a job to give to someone like that. And don't even think about taking anyone other than Luck!

Jim Caldwell is all but gone. Mornhinweg is a good name to throw out but I don't see it. The coach that you will be hearing for this job will be Jon Gruden. The idea of Andrew Luck running Jon Gruden's offense is to sweet to pass up.
