Brady's punt: disrespectful or pretty darn cool?

By Josh Katzowitz

As CBSSports.com’s Mike Freeman pointed out in the immediate aftermath of the Patriots destruction of the Broncos on Saturday, the fact that Tom Brady punted late in New England’s 45-10 win seemed somewhat disrespectful.

Even though it was cool to see Brady take the shotgun snap and then use the short punt in such an old-school manner – plus, the punt went 48 yards and was downed at the 10-yard line! – was Patriots coach Bill Belichick trying to insult Denver with the maneuver (especially since the punt incited a short brawl between the squads)?

Pats dominate Denver
Not exactly, Belichick said in his postgame presser.

As ESPN Boston writes, “Belichick explained the team didn't want to face the various punt rushes the Broncos had on fourth down, so the call was for the unusual quick kick.”

Brady said the team has been practicing the play for seven (!) years and the hope was to land the ball inside the 5-yard line, especially since the surprised Broncos defense didn’t have anybody back to receive the punt.

The only other time Brady punted occurred in 2003 when his punt was actually downed at the opponent’s 1-yard line. That was nine yards better than Saturday’s attempt. So, basically Brady is regressing as a punter.

“I’m disappointed we lost that field position,” Belichick joked. “It’s funny, I mean that’s the kind of play we work on forever and you never know when it’s going to come up.”

Brady's punt: disrespectful or pretty darn cool?

All this proves is that at least 80% of the "men" in the NFL are not professional and don't deserve to see more money in one year than 75% of the country will see their entire lives.  These guys aren't professionals anymore, they're largely nothing but  thugs and I'm sure many of them do nothing but influence and advance underworld crime in their hometowns old and new.  This is just another way the US is losing all sense of morality and humanity.  THE PLAY WORKED AND BEAT THE BRONCOS D ON THAT PLAY....WHEN YOU PLAY GAMES YOU GET BEAT...I WISH THESE PLAYERS WOULD QUIT ACTING LIKE THEY HAD ANY PRIDE TO BEGIN WITH...IF THEY DID, THEY'D ACTUALLY HELP THE WORLD WITH THE WEALTH THEY ARE ACQUIRING....MOST OF THEM DON"T DESERVE THEIR PAY...PERIOD...and btw, I hate the Patriots, so don't call me a Brady lover....I hate him....but I respect him...there's a word....RESPECT...those guys on the field don't know what it really means...."You made a play we weren't expecting and it beat us!  That's disrespectful!"  No, that's sport....go home and cry to your model wives and millions of dollars because your GAME does not matter....but you still have all that money....so just shut up and do your jobs before you piss off the real workers of America who get rewarded with nothing for putting up with WAY more lifetime disrespect and bullshit  than a pro athelete ever has to....oh and btw...those fans PROVIDE THE INCOME FOR TEAMS TO PAY YOU!  I wish these guys would just be professional so the sport could unite rather than divide.

Brady's punt: disrespectful or pretty darn cool?

Two minutes... Instigating... Freeman & Katzowitz. Oh, wait, that's the other sport Boston dominates. LOL!

No matter what the Patriots had done, these guys would have said that it was disrespectful to the opponent, it's thier MO. Apparently the only way to be respectful in these guys eyes is to lay down and lose. No Thanks, call the Patriots disrespectful, it means that they're actually WINNING!

Apparently Tebow and his crew didn't read the sign as they walked though the two towers at Gillette Stadium that reads, "Abandon All Hope Ye Who Enter Here." };{)>

Brady's punt: disrespectful or pretty darn cool?

There is absolutely nothing wrong with the play, but I don't understand why on third and ten a sweep wasn't run to take more time off the clock, then punt on fourth?  I think going for another TD via pass at that time would have been more disrespectful as the game was obviously over by this time.  This is a play that was much more common back in the 60's and 70's.

I wouldve cheap shot brady for that. I'd rather have him throw another td pass than to do that.

Yardog59...Denver couldn't pick it up because the ref had whistled the play dead at 2:56 once the ball stopped moving.  So it was downed, even though no Pats touched it.
I don't understand why? Isn't it a live ball on a punt until it's touched?

What is best in life? To crush your enemies, see them driven before you, and to hear the lamentation of their women.

The Patroits crushed their enemy, seen them driven before them and now they have all you crying about it. Somewhere Conan Laughs!

Win like a man and lose like a man. You just got your @@@ handed to you snd you cry about how they did it. I say don't take the boot off the throat until it is over. You want to cry about losing to one of the best teams in the league? Next time find your own All Star QB and  coach him up and maybe you will do better and not have to cry. Looked like a 13-3 team playing a 8-8 team to me. The Patroits will do the same thing to Houston if they get lucky today. The Ravens would be the better game for next weekend. The better QB usually will win every game unless you have a superior D, SEE: 49ers. Brady > Tebow.

Griffinator

Great comment. Yes it does happen sometimes. I just think a lot of Bronco/Tebow fans are hurt cause their hero played terribly. He has played terribly in the majority of the games he has played in so it shouldn't come as a surprise.

Weak subject for a weak article by a weak hack.Such a dumb ass question at possibly the most insignificant time in the history of any playoff game in any sport. When a no talent fake weak team like Broncos gets exposed for what they rally are there is simply no real notable story that could of happened in such a lopsisded game.Lame hack internet article at best.FAIL
