It's no secret that people were curious what the Broncos -- or, more specifically, John Elway and John Fox -- plan to do with Tim Tebow going forward. We mentioned the Denver problem in Sorting the Sunday Pile and early word out of Denver is that Tebow will be the starter in 2012.

Divisional Round Recap

Elway said so himself on Monday, and also added that he wants to work closely -- and personally -- with Tebow to improve during the offseason.

"Tim has earned the right to be the starting quarterback going into training camp next year," Elway said at his press conference Monday. "He made some good strides."

We mentioned this on the podcast: the Broncos are kind of stuck between a rock and a hard place with their quarterback situation. They might not love Tebow and his "pure passing skills" (or whatever), but he led them to a division title in 2011.

Plus, there are no real viable options for Denver to upgrade. Look at the list that CBSSports.com's Ryan Wilson put together, and tell us who exactly the Broncos are going to get to come to Denver who is a better option than Tebow. But because they currently only have two quarterbacks under contract, they will be shopping for another one in the offseason.

"Right now we've got two quarterbacks under contract," Elway said. "We have to obviously be in the market to find some more quarterbacks in free agency or the draft."

They certainly need to sign a veteran, but one of the best options out there (Brady Quinn -- no, really) was already Tebow's backup in 2011. And what veteran is going to want to come to Denver and have to compete with Tebow? Did you even see the Broncos fans last year? They're insane.

Drafting a quarterback isn't out of the question, but it's unlikely that there'll be anyone worth taking out there when Denver makes its first-round pick. It's just a terrible market to need a quarterback if you're sitting in Denver's spot.

So they did the smart thing and put all their support behind Tebow right now, minimizing the questions that will be asked over the next several months. Next up? Try to develop him as much as possible.

"There are things that I can add," Elway said. "Where I can help him ... I'm looking forward to it."

Elway: Tebow 'earned the right' to start in 2012

Exactly what else was John Elway supposed to say??? If he says anything other than what he did, he would be crucified in the media and by his own fan base. I'll been saying this for the last two months now, John Elway has the toughest job in the NFL right now. Deep down you know he is cringing at Tebow's "success" (I use the term lightly), for if anyone knows what it takes to succeed at this level he does. How does one take the savior of the franchise and cut him off at the knees. Good luck to the original Bucky Bronco, I don't envy the job that is ahead of you, whenever it is you decide to pull the plug on this three ring circus!!!!

Who exactly did Tiny Timmy compete against for the starting job this year, again?

Kyle Orton, Brady Quinn, and Adam Weber. I guess you were either too lazy or too stupid to figure that out on your own.

Who exactly did Tiny Timmy compete against for the starting job this year, again? Tebow didn't "earn" a damned thing. It was Broncofan dollars that put him in there and it will be Broncofan's place to hang him. Elway just telegraphed their offense for beginning of next season, just like Tebow's throwing motion. A diet of cheese and chocolate produces smoother moves than that.Nice one, John.

What QB wouldn't want to come to Denver fool?  They know they will be starting.  LOL!  Even Orton knows he was wrongfully released uh he beat Tebow.

First off, what's the point of the "reply" button if the post goes right to the top of the general comments without a note to who the reply is for?  Guess I should not be surprised when the headline here does not reflect the actual statement made.  PRESEASON.  That means Denver has no idea who their starter is for the regular season.  It doesn't even mean he will be #1, all he said is he "earned the right".  A lot will change in the coming months.  You fools can continue believing he'll get more time. those THAT KNOW already saw what they have to.  Plenty of people have great heart and will that can not succeed at this level.

HE had good stats in ONE game this year., under VERY fortunate circumstances (similar to the times Denver got wins).  Just because he does all those things, doens't mean he isn't a douchebag.  So he's a generous douchebag.  I second the notion and it doesn't have squat to do with getting a response.  If he talked to me, I'd tell him what a douchebag he is.

Nice Post crispyone !! Well said. The guy really just completed 1 "full" season. If another rookie made the playoffs and did what Tebow did in year 1 would he have so many haters? Let the guy play and see what he can become instead of everybody making absolute statements after every performance. I remember a lot of people boo-ing Elway early is his career. How'd that work out?

As long as tebow doesn't end up on the cover of madden 2013 it should be a good season.
