Hue Jackson, it's widely believed, dug his own grave with the Raiders. His fiery end-of-season presser probably didn't endear him to new Oakland GM Reggie McKenzie. And neither did the midseason trade for Carson Palmer, which Jackson made the ultimate decision on.

Divisional Round Recap

Or did he? Jackson, appearing on 95.7 The Fan in San Francisco, was asked if his role in the trade was unfairly portrayed in the media, and that he wasn't the guy who pulled trigger on bringing Palmer to Oakland.

"No it wasn’t," Jackson said, via SportsRadioInterviews.com. "I did coach and recruit Carson in college, I was with him in Cincinnati, I do know Mike Brown because I did work there so naturally everybody is going to say it was Hue that did it. Well no, Hue was the person when it was all said and done that was able to get the sides together. The decision was made as an organization. I don’t make a decision to give away draft picks, I didn’t make a decision on how much money someone was going to make. That’s not my domain. I don’t do that.

"But no I’m not the only person. I was just a player involved in it because I knew the two parties and I knew how to get the two parties together to see if we could potentially do a deal."

We don't know how true this is. We just don't; maybe all Jackson did was get two groups of people in the same room (or on the same phone line) and grease the wheels.

But in the wake of the Raiders getting Palmer, Jackson did call it "probably the greatest trade in football." This clearly wasn't the case, because the 4-2 Raiders finished the season 8-8 and in third place in the AFC West.

The point being, though, that those aren't words coming from someone who simply brought two parties together. It was the sort of trade that, depending on how 2011 played out, might not sit well with a general manager.

Whether or not that was actually the case is now apparently a he-said/he-said sort of thing.

Hue Jackson says he didn't make the Palmer trade

Ok, let's get this straight. The Raiders only gave up ONE 1st round pick so far in this trade. They have to make the AFC Championship game next year to make the 2013 pick a 1st rounder, otherwise it's a 2nd round pick. As it is, we got Carson Palmer AND Aaron Curry (2 First Round Picks) so it evens out. As well, our ability to make worthwhile 1st round selections has been iffy in the past, so I'm not concerned with the lack of picks. I'd rather find intelligent veterans who want to play hard. It was a very good trade and it's funny that the ONLY DECISION I PRAISED HUE FOR he wants NOTHING to do with it. lol

Good Coach but NOT a good head coach...to much he let go on to long and the inevitable needed to take place regardless of the Palmer deal whether it had or had not anything to do with him being fired.

Hue Jackson says he didn't make the Palmer trade

Hue was a good coach here in Baltimore and well respected. The Raiders as a franchise took a gamble (Which looked ideal at the time) and it didn't work out. They HAD a shot for the playoffs and missed out. How often do you see a MLB team go and get a veteran after the trade deadline to secure a spot for a post season berth. It was and always is a calculated risk.

The Raiders should re-evaluate their past drafts and look to the future by drafting better players.

Team motto is "Commitment to Excellence". It really should be "In Search of Excellence, Can Anyone Give Us a Hint?".

Hue Jackson says he didn't make the Palmer trade

I'm not a Raider fan but I'm inclined to believe Hue. I'm sure he pushed the trade but the final signoff had to come from Mark Davis & Amy Trask. Hue's been pretty forthright about his firing and admitting some of his mistakes. My take is he got fired because there's a new GM who wants his own guy and didn't like the team going 4-6 after Palmer, not being able to close the playoff deal against SD, and again leading the league in penalties. I think Hue will surface elsewhere and probably deserves another shot (didn't Wade Phillips get 3 shots?).

Hue Jackson says he didn't make the Palmer trade

There in no doubt that Cinci when all was said and done would have taken one first round pick for Palmer and been very happy with that in return..to get two they are laughing all the way to the draft.

There is all the doubt in the world. Cincy was more than content to sit on its hands and let Palmer rot.

They wouldnt have done just one first round pick. Other teams inquired. Brown kept turning them down.

Cincy had ALL the leverage. If they didn't the deal wouldnt have been made. You think Oakland didnt try to lowball to begin with??

Hue, please come back to Baltimore and replace Cam Cameron as the OC. He's terrible.

Palmer did exactly as I said he would with the Raiders, You can't take a man that was not in traing camp and most of the season and toss him out there and expect them to perform at a high level. Next year will be the tell all as whether this trade was any good, which is what I said when it happened. Palmer is a quality QB on a team that has weapons, he could do very well in a system that utilizes his skills.

Hue Jackson says he didn't make the Palmer trade

Didn't Hue Jackson take credit for the Carson Palmer trade when it originally went down? I thought he was the common link to Palmer because he was a coach with the Bengals. Even with the passing of Al Davis, the Raiders are going nowhere fast...they are not going to be able to hire a big time coach....unless they take Gruden back, lol
