On Sunday night we passed along a report that the Rams were offering Brian Schottenheimer their offensive coordinator position and also mentioned the likelihood of Gregg Williams leaving the Saints to join Jeff Fisher in St. Louis. Though there's been no confirmation of the former news, the latter appears to have happened, as Williams reportedly will join Fisher with the Rams.

Jason LaCanfora of the NFL Network reports that Williams, who's contract was up in New Orleans, is leaving the Saints to complete the Titans reunion.

Williams worked with Fisher in Tennessee from 1997 through 2000 before leaving to take the Bills head-coaching gig. In his final season with the Titans, his defense was the top-ranked unit in the NFL. After leaving Buffalo, Williams worked with the Redskins and Jaguars before helping lead the Saints to a takeaway-fueled championship defense and a Super Bowl victory.

His last two years haven't been as impressive, however, and he was potentially headed to an awkward contract situation until Fisher took the job in St. Louis.

Williams will take on a pretty big task, as the Rams were 26th in the NFL in points allowed and 22nd in yards allowed. The Rams also ranked 23rd in interceptions but were decent at sacking opponents.

Report: Gregg Williams leaves Saints for Rams

Obviously (jfldemons) you don't know football any better than a pigs a$$!!! What Williams had to work with in NO's all season was very medeocre at best. The Saints defense had several decent games and thrived on turnovers all season long. Players are getting old and Williams is an exelent add to the Rams and beings he has already worked with Fish, and he has confidance in him, I think this will work to the good for the Rams. These fans that go off of one game for what a coach is really worth suck. Williams has had a great past as a DC, and did a good enough job with the Titans to land a Head Coaching job.
You wanna see a defense take a dive next year (unless NO goes to free agency and drafts well for their D) just watch the Saints. If you got a chance to watch the Patriots D this year during the regular season...look for that in NO next season.

What does the situation in Denver have to do with this story on the Rams and who is on their coaching staf?  You either like to ramble on about utter stupidity on any board or you don't understand the english language very well.  Instead of apologizing for font color, you should apologize for being so ignorant.

Ok the Respect I had for Elway is gone...<span style="color: #000000;">its more then obvious that he really really wants to be the head coach since he's blabbing to the meda about player decisions and "coaching" them on the field.  If  I were John Fox I'd say john if you want to coach why do ya have me...otherwise let me do this stuff not you.  Otherwise john fox is going to look like Elway's puppet even more then any head coach is the puppet of their GMs. sorry for the red font al not sure what I did to get the print in red lol.

Who else would you have cover Vernon, who's a devastating run blocker as much as he is a receiving threat?  And then who do you put on the WRs (who are slightly quicker than Vernon)?

Your problem is personnel more than scheme.  You can't bring pressure without bringing the heat, and you can't bring the heat without going man.  You can fault Williams for gambling at the end there, but if he'd just stayed back in zone, Smith would have picked you apart for 10-20 yard gains and that would have meant at least a FG and possibly the same outcome of a TD.  You do realize he was sitting back in zone on the final TD play right?

In today's NFL, it's hard to have a Pro Bowl offensive line, a Pro Bowl QB (who may be one of the 5 greatest QBs ever), a pro Bowl-caliber WR and TE (Colston and Graham), and also have a good defense.  When I look around your defensive personnel, they're all either crappy (your entire secondary) or they're old (Vilma).  Don't blame the coordinator for that.

Oh God no!!! After what I saw yesterday....the Alex Smith 30 yard TD scramble and not being able to hold the lead for more than a minute to a slightly better than mediocre offense, the Saints can keep him!!!

The Rams allow 30+ points to the 49ers already, we dont need this clown in town!
