On Sunday night we passed along a report that the Rams were offering Brian Schottenheimer their offensive coordinator position and also mentioned the likelihood of Gregg Williams leaving the Saints to join Jeff Fisher in St. Louis. Though there's been no confirmation of the former news, the latter appears to have happened, as Williams reportedly will join Fisher with the Rams.

Jason LaCanfora of the NFL Network reports that Williams, who's contract was up in New Orleans, is leaving the Saints to complete the Titans reunion.

Williams worked with Fisher in Tennessee from 1997 through 2000 before leaving to take the Bills head-coaching gig. In his final season with the Titans, his defense was the top-ranked unit in the NFL. After leaving Buffalo, Williams worked with the Redskins and Jaguars before helping lead the Saints to a takeaway-fueled championship defense and a Super Bowl victory.

His last two years haven't been as impressive, however, and he was potentially headed to an awkward contract situation until Fisher took the job in St. Louis.

Williams will take on a pretty big task, as the Rams were 26th in the NFL in points allowed and 22nd in yards allowed. The Rams also ranked 23rd in interceptions but were decent at sacking opponents.

Report: Gregg Williams leaves Saints for Rams

I'm excited about this. I appreciate what Williams did in '09, but I think his style ran it's course here and people pretty much had him and his defense figured out. It's time for a change. I just hope we don't lose Pete Carmichael. That would be a huge blow to what promises already to be a turbulent offseason.

This really makes me think he threw the game for the 49ers.  I mean, how in the hell do you let Malcolm Jenkins single cover Vernon Davis during any point in the game, much less, the game winning drive?...MULTIPLE TIMES!?  Those WRs of the 49ers did NOTHING! They weren't even a threat and he fails to put sufficient cover on Vernon Davis?   Turnovers aside, tell me this guy didn't lose this game for the Saints!
The defensive coordinator didn't lose the game for the Saints -- The Saints turnovers lost the game for the Saints.  If New Orleans doesn't turn the ball over 5 times, they are playing the Giants this week.

Suggesting it has anything to do with their coach is utter stupidity.  You do realize they coach to get to the Super Bowl too -- exactly what would he get by "intentionally trying to lose the game".  ZERO.

It was time!  Offenses had figured out the blitz and zone schemes he uses and they were ineffective for the past two seasons.  The super bowl season was a great one with lots of interceptions and turnovers, but that has been non existent and they really haven't been able to limit other teams.   The Saints offense is fine, they need a stopper defensive scheme like the Giants are showing in the post season!  Then they will have a chance at being the first team ever to play a Super Bowl in their home stadium next season! Thank Williams, but you've run the course, hope to see your defense next season so Brees can throw for about 800 yards in a half.

Free at last, free at last, thank God almighty we are free at last.  SAINTS----HIRE Steve Spagnuolo RIGHT NOW! Don't waste another minute.  Let him have a say in fixing the personnel on D.  Thank you for your service GW and good luck in St Louis.

First of all let me say, that New Orleans has nothing to be embarrassed about losing on Saturday. They played a terrific game against a another terrific team.IMHO, that was the game of the year. Drew Brees is the best QB in the NFL.

Secondly, Williams leaving is no major loss. The Saints defense wasn't any great shakes and let Alex Smith look like Joe Montana. Williams isn't Bill Belichick or even Wade Wilson. He's a decent DC, that's it.

That said, Alex Smith made more quality throws in one game than his wholle career cumulatively...

Deuce, the throws that killed the Saints were over the top... certainly not quick. If Vernon Davis is gashing for 30 yd average you have more problems than you think. I can't remember a safety getting crushed like Jenkins did against Davis and for one cannot believe this D coordinator couldn't move to double team like Ravens better Gronkowski. Williams wants to reunite because he wasted pretty decent front seven in NO by having no clue in secondary... sounds familiar to wasting talented secondary in Redskinland and the shortcomings of the Kearse/Haynesworth Titans... Rams are cursed...
