Antrel Rolle on Giants: 'We can't be beat'

It's one thing for Jason Pierre-Paul to declare that the Giants would beat the Packers because, well, he apparently knows what he's talking about. ("We’re going to win," Pierre-Paul said after New York beat Atlanta. "One hundred percent we’re going to win ... because we’re the best.")

It's something else when Antrel Rolle makes similar proclamations; his track record in such endeavors is far from spotless. In fact, it's pretty embarrassing.

The Redskins somehow managed to sweep the Giants this season and following their Week 1 win, Rolle went on the radio and said, "As a team and organization we know that the Washington Redskins are not a better team than us. We know that. Hands down. If we played them 100 times they might win five."

Washington would win again when the two teams met 14 weeks later.

Now, five days from the NFC Championship Game, Rolle is again making with the guarantees.

"I might be a little biased, but in our minds, we can’t be beat,” Rolle said via the New York Daily News' Peter Botte. “We’re extremely confident and we’ve given ourselves the reasons to feel that way. We have to continue to give ourselves those reasons, and we will. We have no doubts. It’s right there at the tip of our tongues.”

Rolle's comments aren't unreasonable (well, except that part about winning being on the "tip of our tongues" -- but we knew what he meant); the Giants did just beat the defending Super Bowl champs who went 15-1 during the 2011 regular season. And unlike his observations about the Redskins' inadequacies, Rolle didn't call out the 49ers. He just spoke to how well New York has been playing.

“You can put an All-Star team in front of us, and we’re going to go out there and compete,” he continued. “We don’t fold. No matter what happens, if there’s a bad call, or things aren’t going our way, we’re not going to break. We’re not going to lose focus on what’s at stake and our ultimate goal.”

Rolle's right about that last part: the Giants were hosed twice against the Packers and it didn't matter; they still blew Green Bay out at home. There's something to be said for that, especially since New York has to travel to San Francisco next weekend.

And while we don't have any issues with Rolle's latest remarks, we'd still feel a lot better if they came from JPP. Because, really, there's nothing more shameful than getting called out by Rex Grossman for being bad at your job.

Antrel Rolle on Giants: 'We can't be beat'

When you start making comments like that....that is when you wind up losing. Giants are acting like this game shouldn't even play this game......kind of reminds me how the Jets acted last year when the beat the Patriots last year in the playoffs. We all know what happened the following week.

This may not be a very analytical reason, but the 49'ers seem like a team of destiny.  I think they're on the way to win the SB.

You have to be impressed by how Smith played Saturday.  If he keeps playing like that with that no. 1 ranked defense, I don't see anybody stopping them.

Hey Chargers, what's Philip Rivers' handicap? Another QB who will never win the big game.  Eli Manning is hands down a better clutch QB than Rivers ever will be. That trade was a steal. How do I know this? Because the NY Giants have a Superbowl & are on their way to a second with Eli while Rivers & Norv (AKA the WORST head coach in the NFL) are out on the links..

Really, "Crueboy"... you're a "crazy fan"??? You don't even know the name of your team's kicker! And if you think that the Giants & Eli Manning are intimidated by going anywhere to play, you're out of your mind.  Bottom line is that Alex Smith is not a Superbowl winning quarterback & never will be. Period.  In fact aside from a punt or kickoff return, I don't see the niners scoring a TD.  It'll be the David Akers show... that's it, David Akers. He's the kicker you couldn't name.  Giants win, 24-19.

Eli-zabeth. very clever. giants fans can make fun of Alex but it's already a girl's name. 49ers fans can only dream of having a QB that great.
Oh my goodness. Wow what a homer. Thinking Eli Manning is a great quarterback is such a fantasy. I will admit he has had a great season but this is the first season ever he has played great.  Let's see Eli play great for a few seasons consecutively before we declare he is a great quarterback. Anybody can have a lucky year.

Antrel Rolle is a clown and hopefully he has jinxed the Giants.

Let's go 49ers!!!

The teams that remain have more fans then your sorry ass steelers!!! Criminals? Ben Rothlessburger is the biggest scumbag in the NFL. He picks on defenseless women. Maybe in that little hole you live in you didnt see the numerous rape charges brought up on big Ben. Steelers season is over,so go watch soccer or somthing loser.

Guys,

First off lets get one thing straight here, say what you want about Eli's name or even your own quarterbacks name. But dont say you would rather have alex smith over Eli Manning becuase that is just absurd. If you think for one minute that the Giants wont be hard to beat you are very naive, in fact I would be a little nervous if I were 49er fans. Lets stop the talking and leave it for the field. Becuase without the 49ers defense, you would be replacing alex smith next year. Lets not forget he is a bust even still...

Enjoy the game and hopefully you remember what its like to be a superbowl calibur team.

Lets go GMEN!!

There isn't a Tight End on the Giants that is anywhere near the player Vernon Davis is -  Vernon had colose to 70 receptions and 6 TD's.  The Giants three TE's have 55 combined -

Ah, yet another fucking idiot who mouth is writing checks his talent can't cash.  Enjoy being overlooked until now?  Hope so, because the Niners are beating yours and Eli-zabeth's asses stupid.
