With Rams owner Stan Kroenke also owning the English Premier Leagues’ Arsenal soccer team, a date in London to play the NFL’s annual international game certainly makes sense. And St. Louis players had better get used to it, because not only will they face the Patriots in 2012, but the Rams also have signed up to play in London in 2013 and 2014.

That’s the word from the team, which also reports that next year’s game will occur Oct. 28 at 1 p.m. ET (6 p.m. local time).

The Rams will be the home team in 2012, meaning they’ll lose a game at the Edward Jones Dome.

“This is a tremendous honor for our franchise, the city of St. Louis and our fans throughout the world,” Kroenke said in a statement. “We are excited about the opportunity to reach new audiences globally. This is a great platform to showcase the city of St. Louis to London and the UK.

“We’ve seen first-hand the increased popularity of the NFL not only in London but throughout Europe. To play a role in that growth over the next three years will be incredible and is a testament to the many good things happening not only in the NFL but also in the St. Louis Rams organization.”

As the St. Louis Post Dispatch points out, NFL commissioner Roger Goodell said in October that he wanted to see a few teams becoming regulars in London (the Buccaneers, for example, have been twice already, and next year will mark New England's second trip across the Atlantic) so they could begin to build a following in Europe.

That would be “very powerful and lead us to what we ultimately would like to do -- have a franchise here in London,” Goodell said.

The NFL is contracted to play at least one regular-season contest in London through 2016.

As a Brit let me say you are right it is an American game etc.. but it's laughable to have a go at the way we Brits might cheer a game. Watch the EPL and you may soon understand that we create the passion in the stadium. All of your music on the loudspeakers, fans sitting in their seats banging their feet, and just screaming Deeefence or ohhhhhhhhhh over and over is pathetic! You play your game over here is good, just let us come over here and give you some basic 101 pointers on how to actually sing, have a go at people and maybe offend the opposition would do nicely. Leave the good manners and the soccer moms at the turnstile, take your filters off and do your thing. Stop sitting there watching the big screen, catching t shirts being shot from cannons, and screaming nothing about nothing. Create some songs and get all the fans doing it in unison and there my friend will be the answer to your cheering concerns.

Nothing like destoying a fanbase than to watch the Rams for the next three years! Why don't we ever get the Steelers, Raiders or Cowboys instead of the bottom feeders?

Have never liked them playing regular season games in London or Toronto! Hate the idea of a team in London or Toronto! Most Brits don't care about American football. The whole idea is ridiculous! Goodell is a fool and is going to ruin a good thing. Keep all NFL teams in America where they belong! Also move the Rams back to LA where they belong!

You can't put a team in London for crying out loud.

Kickoff at 2:00AM Tuesday Morning.

Stupid.

This is just another crazy Goodell pipe dream. If you are going to put a team in another country maby Canada should be the first. They already have canadien football, it would not be a scheduleing nightmare and there are a few markets that could move quickly. The Vikings are pretty much in Canada anyway, The bills played in Toronto ounce it just makes more sense than to ship a team all the way to England. They sell out because it is a ounce a year thing.

although I do like the Idea of maby a Cowboys Patriots game just to kind of re-enact the reveloutionary war idea. Yes I know the patriots are the Americans I just think it would be funny.

Just my opinion, but a team in London is ridiculous.  It would do well for the first few years but then if they are not a very good team the attendance would probably be horrible because they will never be as passionate about American football like people here in America are.  Put a team back in Los Angeles.  It is funny how I have read how the NFL did not want to go past 32 teams and kept LA without a team for years, but now they are talking all the time about putting a team in London.  Doesn't make sense!

(I was referring to questions about scheduling 34 teams if the league expanded to London and LA.)

I just threw that out there because the league apparently wants to be in both markets.  That stuff would work itself out somehow.
I don't favor a team in London at all.  And I don't favor expansion, either.  But if the league is going to keep hinting at putting teams there, they should just do it instead of screwing the fans over.
