As we wrote a few days ago, the Rams had made an offer to Brian Schottenheimer to be their offensive coordinator under new coach Jeff Fisher, and today, Schottenheimer reportedly accepted the job, according to the St. Louis Post Dispatch.

Latest coaching news, rumors
It’s a fresh start for Schottenheimer, who parted ways with the Jets following an acrimonious season in charge of New York’s offense, and he gets to work with Fisher, who is building quite an assistant staff along with defensive coordinator Gregg Williams.

Schottenheimer had interviewed for the University of Alabama offensive coordinator gig but didn’t get it. He also had been connected as a candidate for the Falcons coordinator position, but that job went to Dirk Koetter.

As Will Brinson wrote earlier this week, “But it's unlikely that Rams fans will be too thrilled: the Jets never finished better than 17th in passing offense and only once finished in the top 10 in total offense for a season under Schottenheimer.”

Of course, Schottenheimer had to try to tutor Mark Sanchez in New York, and questions are still out on whether Sanchez can be a legitimate starting quarterback in this league. Rams quarterback Sam Bradford will be a big-step up in talent for Schottenheimer. Plus, he’s got Steven Jackson as running back, and if St. Louis can find some receivers, the Rams offense could be a talented one.

Much of it, though, will depend on what Schottenheimer can accomplish now that he has the job.

Report: Schottenheimer hired as Rams OC

The Jets offensive woes were as much the fault of Schotty as they were of Sanchez. The only way one views this as a good hire is if they don't live in the NY area.

Jeff Fisher did a good job for the Titans.  I do think the time had come for both the Titans and Fisher to go in different directions.  Thanks for the memories Jeff.  I wish you the best except when you are playing the Titans.  Go Titans!

Good hire. With a real QB to work with this offense could be explosive.

I find it amusing that there are those out there that think Jeff Fisher is not a good coach - If you count the 8-8 seasons as non loss seasons than Fisher has done extremely well in a division that played Payton Manning 2 times a year since 1998.  And of course going to a Super Bowl should count for something.

As for Vince Young that was a draft call made against Fishers' wishes and began the downward spiral of the Titans.  Also Jim Schwarz of Detriot is a Fisher prodigy and has taken Detriot to the next level so he's good a developing future head coaches.

If you look at this year's crop of coordinators vying for HC jobs - please name one that you would want to bet on going to the Super Bowl in the next few years.  I'm omitting HC retread Malarky because like BB at New England once you've been a HC you can learn from your early mistakes, hopefully.

Can anyone really see Philbin taking the Dolphins to a division title in the next few years with Brady at NE, or the Jags even with Marlarkey playing the Texans twice a year.  No the candidates are all crap shoots and if you look at the 2009 crop only 2 are left out of 11 HC changes.

As for Brian - he will do much better under a sane, calm  HC like Fisher - unfortunately he had to endure the Ryan nonsense for three years and the JETS still made the AFC Championship 2 years in a row.

Good Luck Rams!

Lets get something straight 17 seasons and only 6 winning seasons does not make  you a good coach. Second everybody is passing on this OC is a clue. Third hopefully he does not have any personnel issues because he was over his head w Pacman and Young. Rams get ready for a steady dose of .500 seasons but then again you might be like Titans fans you will except average.

Rams also have lots of cap room, and have even told Jason Smith that he needs to take a pay cut or leave (a lot because he isn't living up to what he did in college yet). Even though, it would be nice to see Smith stay healthy.

Even, Brandon Lloyd is now wanting to stay because the Rams brought in Jeff Fisher. Before, Fisher came in .... Lloyd had said he'd follow McDaniels to where ever he goes. So, one thing Fisher can do, because of his name is attract free agents.

According to Rams players ... JL and a few others, they've said that this team isn't that far off from winning. Fisher can relate to his players also, keep in mind he worked under one of the worst NFL owners for years in Bud Adams. Fisher didn't want Vince Young, Bud Adams did. So, Adams had to choose who to keep. He choose to let go of Fisher. Titans players (like Finnigan .... sp) even miss Fisher, that was one of the Titans problems last season, was that lots of that roster still wanted Fisher. Finnigan was even on ESPN 101, after the Rams hired Fisher, and said he'll come to the Rams, if Fisher wants him. I have a feeling if he does, other former Titans come also. At least they wouldn't be washed up, like the players Spags brought in from the Giants and Eagles.
