K. Williams fumbled twice in San Francisco's loss to New York (AP).

After a man makes a couple major mistakes in a game that helps cost his team a victory, it’s refreshing to know that that many fans, through the power of Twitter, can lend that man some much-needed support.

Take 49ers receiver Kyle Williams, for example. He muffed a punt and then lost a fumble in overtime that led to the Giants winning the NFC title and advancing to the Super Bowl. His teammates and many of San Francisco’s fans rallied around the crestfallen Williams, sending him messages of encouragement and love.

Championship Weekend Recap

Then, you have the people who, according to the San Jose Mercury News, are tweeting death threats and other heartwarming sentiments to Williams. As one apparent fan wrote, “I hope you, youre (sic) wife, kids and family die, you deserve it.” Wrote another: “Jim Harbaugh, please give @KyleWilliams_10 the game ball. And make sure it explodes when he gets in his car.”

So, that’s nice, huh?

But his 49ers teammates were there to defend him.

"We all lost this game," tight end Delanie Walker said, via’s Gregg Doyel. "We play as a team -- it's 45 of us out there. It's not Kyle's fault, so don't go over there and act like it is. Cause it's not."

Safety Donte Whitner told reporters: “Hopefully, he doesn't beat himself up too hard. Hopefully, the media's not on him too tough. Because he's still a young player, and he still has a bright future in the National Football League.

"There's just certain things that you can't do in certain situations. We have to protect the ball at all times. I think he learns that now, and he'll be better."

For his part, Williams spoke to reporters after the game, saying he was simply trying to make a play.

“Everybody in here has covered my back and kind of patted me on the back and said, 'It's not all on your shoulders,'" Williams said.

Unfortunately, some of San Francisco’s fans didn’t get that memo.

Message to "Death Threatener": It's sad to think that your life is so miserable, you want to kill somebody because they made a mistake. IT'S A GAME, MORON! Mistakes happen! When you screw up at work, do your co-workers threaten you with death?  Oh, don't have a life, so you probably don't have a job either.

I guess these fans from San Francisco didn't learn anything from the Brian Stow tragedy.

Death threats are a bit harsh but this guy deserves the critisism and so does Harbaugh for keeping him back there after the first blunder.  Unexcusable.  Hope he cashed in on his Vegas bet.  Donkey!

I hope that the 49ers take this beyond the support for Williams and bring these threats to the formal attantion of the authorities.  If these tweets can be viewed as threats (with intention to commit or not) can put the twit-heads behind bars depending on state law.  In California, a threat is a misdemeanor with up to 1 year sentence based on previous record.  Sports teams need to send a message to all the "true fans" and to remind all of us that it's a game.  Here's hoping both Williams and Ravens kicker Cundiff get past their Championship mistakes and return to their teams next season.

Now that's really a rather blasse way of putting a very serious situation, isn't it!    I don't care what the guy's a football game, for pete's sake, only a football game.   If lives of people are so wrapped up in whether they won or lost a football game, then there is something seriously wrong with that individual, in the game of life!!   I love and enjoy football too, but I don't go into the tank and become depressed or so angry I want to kill someone over it!    What are people doing when they reach this plateau?   They're mentally unstable, that's what!    Yes, I feel bad when my favorite team loses, as I suppose any real fan does, but to that extreme?   Come on, grow up and be an adult, with some maturity!  Williams feels bad, I know, and is he to blame, or mostly to blame for the loss?, I suppose you could put him in that catagory, but hey.......Pro football is replete with guys that have helped lose a football game, but like anything else in life, you suffer with that, but you move on and life don't have some nut case so angry he want's to take your life over it!   Good grief, where do we live?.................some third world country, where most of the world's warped perceptions on life exist!   Civilization?...........yep, with these types of guys, I often times wonder.     In fact, Williams is really a pretty good football they said, he is young, and he still has things to learn, and he made some big mistakes, and you can only villifey him if he doesn't learn from this experience.     A death threat in these days, cannot be ignored, and now I return to the civilized portion...........maybe, just maybe, we're not quite as civilized as I thought.
