Denver GM: Tebow needs to improve on 'everything'

Tim Tebow was the story heading into training camp last summer, he was the story for 20 weeks during the season, and he'll continue to be the story this offseason. On Monday, John Elway, the Broncos executive vice president of football operations, said the team "will be in the market to find more quarterbacks" in the coming months.

This wasn't so much an indictment of Tebow's 2011 season, more the realization that the Broncos need to add depth at the position. Kyle Orton was jettisoned during the season and Brady Quinn is set to be a free agent in a few weeks. While Tebow still remains atop Denver's depth chart heading into training camp, he has plenty to improve on. And when we say plenty, we really mean everything. Broncos general manager Brian Xanders provided specifics.

"It's the precision on the passing, it's the accuracy, the footwork, the mechanics, the rhythm, the timing, the quickness, the release. Everything," Xanders told the Denver Post's Mark Kiszla. "And he wants to work at it. And he's dedicated. He's going to work really hard at improving those things. Our coaches, Mike McCoy and Adam Gase, and hopefully even John Elway are going to help him improve throughout the offseason. And he knows he has a lot of work to do. We're excited about him improving in those areas."

And that improvement, ultimately, will decide Tebow's fate. This isn't a revelation, but it does explain why Elway would only commit to him as the starter "heading into training camp." As Kizla writes, however, there's another reason to make Tebow compete for the starting job: he plays better when he's challenged.

But raw athleticism will only get him so far. For Tebow to have sustained success he'll have to -- wait for it -- become a much better passer. Or, in Xanders' words, improve on everything.

Denver GM: Tebow needs to improve on 'everything'

After what I saw - Tebow needs to improve ALOT and some more.  Definitely still playing college ball on a pro team, but that is also the signs of a bad coach (John Fox) who has to fit the system around the qb's talents rather than find a qb that can run an efficient pro style offense designed by professional (not college) coaches.

Denver GM: Tebow needs to improve on 'everything'

You guys are all idiots, tebow won a playoff game this year against one of the best defenses in football.. you have to be half decent to do that in your first year especially, when some quarterbacks dont even win a playoff game in their entire career. It wasnt all the defense too, since it was the same defense when Orton went 1-4? stop talking about this and see if he improves in the offseasoncause thats when youll know if he will ever make it in the NFL

Denver GM: Tebow needs to improve on 'everything'

Glad to hear that there are some rational Bronco fans out there.  I am still trying to figure out why the Broncos are wasting their time with Tebow.  Now they are going to have to teach this guy how to throw correctly instead of working on the playbook and reading defenses like they would if they had a pro style quarterback in the first place.  For the people that are trying to compare Tebow to Elway.  Elway already knew how to throw before he got drafted.  He just had bad pieces around him when he got there.  If I am repeating stuff that people already posted I am sorry but I am so tired of hearing about him and can't believe people think Tebow is going to take us anywhere.  If he is our QB next year look to be 6-10 at best.

TSO - HELL, YOUR RIGHT.  With a full training camp, he may actually pass for close to 100 yards in every game next season.  Your comparing him to Elway, but Elway's game didn't revolve around running the ball 95% of the time.  Go back and llok at tebow in college.  the reason he won the heisman the year he did, was due to the fact he ran for a zillion TD's, all from inside the 5 yard line.  he was weak as a psser in college, and will never, I repeat NEVER, be able to pass the ball effectively, and continuously as the NFL demands.  His style of play matches no other, not even CAM.  CAM can pass and run.  All Tebow does is run, and then throw once in a while, that cathces the defense offguard.  Remember how great the wildcat was.  Guess what, defenses figured it out, just like the Tebow run option will be one year and DONE.

Denver GM: Tebow needs to improve on 'everything'

All you people need to go back to John elways first year as a quarterback and the stats will tell you Tebow had a better 16 game stretch then Elway did and Elway had all of training camp and preseason to work on it. Tebow came off of a lockout season being benched and helped carry his team to playoffs, imagine what he can do with the right training and practice time with all of his teammates over the offseason.

Denver GM: Tebow needs to improve on 'everything'

wow, it's amazing how delusional Broncos fans are...   or maybe they are too simple minded to only notice the results and nothing else...   someone actually pointed out that Cam Newton didn't make the playoffs and Tebow did...   anyone with an IQ over 3 (not a typo) would realize that with the Denver Defense (which coincided with the winning streak when it got healthy) AND their pretty decent receiving corps (hello, Optimus Prime?), Denver woulda been a Superbowl caliber team with Newton...   then again, i'm not gonna argue too much for it since it's hard to reason with an infant mind...   i like Tebow as person, but one of the worst passers in history

Denver GM: Tebow needs to improve on 'everything'

These stroies are getting so bored to read.  just put Tebow at TE and move on.  Somehow i don't believe that Tebow will have the same luck in games as last year.  Without SD missed FG, without teams playing prevent, and without barber going out of bounds, Tebow's would have a losing record.

Denver GM: Tebow needs to improve on 'everything'

I would agree that Tim Tebow needs to improve on many aspects of his game as it pertains to the skills of the typical elite NFL quarterback. I am glad that the Broncos are going to give Tebow the chance to improve those skills.  The Broncos are and have been a class organization and this is another example of them showing that class.

Tim Tebow has attributes that can not be taught or learned. He is a leader and he is winner with true confidence. He is not rattled when things turn bad like many other quarterbacks like Eli Manning and Tony Romo to mention only a few.

Tebow has a great work ethic and I believe he will get better at the skills he needs to be a true NFL quarterback. He never got the chance to learn those skills in college because they ran that lame offense.

The Broncos are going to give Tebow a chance and it is up to him to work hard and take full advantage of the chance he is given.

I hope Tebow succeeds but if not then it would be smart for the Broncos to have someone waiting in the wings.

Denver GM: Tebow needs to improve on 'everything'

People, the reason Tebow was named the starter going into training camp is beacuse the only other QB on the roster is Adam Weber.  Don't get me wrong, I wish Tebow could prove everyone wrong, but I don't know if that is going to happen.  I would not be at all suprised if Elway made a run at Manning or tried to trade up for Robert Griffin.  The Broncos will be in the market for a QB because the offense is going to be a "regular pro offense" and Tebow is going to sink or swim with that offense you can bank on that.

Denver GM: Tebow needs to improve on 'everything'

We must not forget the broncos, not Tebow, went 7-4.  There were some games we won despite Tebows play.  Did Tebow have some success?  Yes.  But he definitely does need to improve if the Broncos are going to go to a SB.  Scoring 10-17 points a game won't work.  I also would like people to tell me who the broncos won and lost to last season.  Because we struggled with team that had winning records.  Simple truth, Tebow must get better.  The bronocs as a whole still need to improve.
