Irsay: 'Peyton has not passed our physical'

It's getting ugly between Manning and Irsay... (Getty Images)

INDIANAPOLIS -- The Peyton Manning saga is in full public relations mode. And despite a promise from Manning and Colts owner Jim Irsay that things reached a peace accord, everything managed to turn sour again late on Thursday night, courtesy of Jim Irsay's Twitter account and a report that Manning was "cleared" to return to playing football.

That report surfaced Thursday afternoon and then Irsay tweeted late on Thursday that indicated Peyton was, in fact, not clear, physically speaking.

"Peyton has not passed our physical nor has he been cleared to play for The Indianapolis Colts," Irsay tweeted. "Team statement coming on Friday."

This is about to get ugly, and it's about to get ugly quickly. There was some reconciliation of feelings between Irsay and Manning before the media arrived in Indianapolis earlier in the week. That almost put the Colts long-term situation at quarterback on the backburner when it comes to Indianapolis Star front pages. It hasn't.

Instead, things have somehow managed to become more awkward. Manning -- vis a vis a report -- was declared eligible to start playing football. This said nothing about the arm strength of Manning, who's recovering from nerve damage.

Irsay's tweet, on the other hand, speaks directly to Manning's lack of health, as it pertains to the Colts decision to pick up his $28 million option.

Peyton might well be healthy, but it matters little at this point, because the salvos are fired. Manning says he's healthy enough to play football. (Ergo, he believes he should be paid to be played football, right?)

And Irsay -- and the Colts -- disagree, and, ergo, Manning shouldn't be paid to play football. At least for the Colts. It's a nightmare of epic proportions for everyone involved and, despite the quite pleasant Super Bowl taking place in Indianapolis, this story is casting a cloud over the normally fun activities taking place in Indiana.

Irsay: 'Peyton has not passed our physical'

I can understand Manning wanting to play, but I can't understand pushing this idea that he is capable of playing so he can scoop up an extra $28 mil. Course if there's nothing in the contract that says he must be certified healthy to play and receive the money, this might just be a delay tactic to get the Colts to cough up the cash. If it is, I've lost all respect in Manning the person. That's a big if though. I'd like to think if he can't play, and doctors tell him he could end up in a wheelchair or be killed on the field, that he would walk away from the big paycheck and let Indy use the money to build on his legacy. Afterall, does he really need the loot?

Irsay: 'Peyton has not passed our physical'

Irsay cant stop nailing his own coffin shut.

Listen bozo, when you hear the anouncment that a doctor has cleared Payton Manning for play you say "Thats great news. We look forward to having Payton come in and pass the team phisical so we can put all this injury intrige behind us."

That way the ball is in Paytons court to scedual a team physical rather than you looking like a fool.

Irsay: 'Peyton has not passed our physical'

What the heck?  I think the National Enquirer and The Sun have more truth in them than the media.

Irsay: 'Peyton has not passed our physical'

1. Does anyone care about Millionaires and Billionaires fighting over money?

2. Who really cares about Irsay and the Indianapolis Jackasses?

3. Wouldn't it be great if Peyton Manning was cut then Andrew Luck said he wasn't going to play for the Indy football team if they draft him.

Both Irsay & Peyton need a 'time-out'

Mr. Irsay needs to stay off twitter during this week . . if that's even possible.  Mr. Manning, I'm suggesting, should stay out of the Colts' organization for the remainder of the week.
It's Super Bowl time, gentlemen . . let's refocus on the event and allow the opposing teams to share the spotlight without the antics of local owner and local hero.  Irsay would benefit by taking a crash course in a little humility, shut tweeter down and welcome Indy's guests with open arms and not open mouth, or should we say, open iPad!

Irsay: 'Peyton has not passed our physical'

Typically ungrateful spoiled rich prick.  Peyton made Irsay rich over the last decade, Irsay has the power to refuse to return the favor and looks as if he's going to try.  Good business says to be a greedy bastard right?

I hope Peyton wins a Super Bowl for a different team before he retires.  Especially if Eli wins this one, I can't make sense in my own mind that Eli is the better QB bro.  No matter what is said, if Peyton is gone, Irsay is going to be the villain.  He should just be up front with the fans.  Might not be popular, but I/we can respect an honest business decision.

On a lighter note, this article reminds me of the running back from 'The Program.'  (poor grammar and using words incorrectly)

Mr Irsay loves to hear him self talk. His team won 1 game and he got pissed off. You fire everyone . Now you go after the only
one on the team they had nothing to do with the 1 win team. Can you say Joe Montana {sf 49ers} . Mr Irsay just tell the people
what you want to do . Let Peyton go draft Luck and move on . I hope he goes to a AFC team that plays the Colts twice a year and
Kick your teams butt everytime.

Irsay: 'Peyton has not passed our physical'

Here we go again!!!  This is nothing more than the media stirring up the pot by reporting only parts of various stories.  They always seem to be able to take something out of context, not state the complete story and consequently twist things into a 24-hour, minute-by-minute saga until they're actually forced to publish ALL the facts and ALL the quotes.  Once EVERYTHING comes to a head, they then turn around and say "we're sorry" (if necessary to save face) or simply ignore the fact that they now look like the entirely incompetent, controversy manufacturing entities that they are.
