INDIANAPOLIS -- While much has been made of Bill Belichick’s seemingly happy mood since the Patriots arrived here for Super Bowl XLVI, at least one of his former players has to be mighty upset with him tonight.

Latest from the Super Bowl
That’d be wide receiver Tiquan Underwood, who was released from the squad about 24 hours (!) before New England faces the Giants at Lucas Oil Stadium. In his place, the Patriots have signed rookie defensive end Alex Silvestro to the active roster.

As the Boston Herald points out, Underwood almost surely would receive a Super Bowl ring if the Patriots win and that the move was not disciplinary.

Speculation has centered on the Patriots perhaps wanting an extra defensive linemen to move into the rotation and that, without Underwood in the lineup, Chad Ochocinco most likely will be active for Sunday’s game.

Underwood’s classy reaction, via Twitter? “This Is Nothing But MOTIVATION.... I Been Thru A LOT...But There Are Ppl In This World w/ More Serious Problems So I Cant Hang The Head....Thank You Lord … Good Luck To The New Enland Organization, The Coaches, & All My Teammates... #PatsNation”

But even though the Giants can't claim Underwood via waivers (they couldn't do so until Monday), I honestly love the idea presented by the New York Post’s Bart Hubbuch, who writes “Giants should ... hire him as a "quality control coach" like Josh McDaniels. I'm serious.”

Who cares? What is classless about this? He wasn't needed on the team and another lineman was. Should the Patriots sacrifice the possible SB win for the entire team in order to avoid hurting this guys' feelings? You have to look at both sides, the overall Pats team is better off without him (or so they think, I guess we'll see). If Underwood was better he wouldn't have been cut, it's that simple.

Bill Bellicheat is overrated and classless, as is Brady... I hope the Giants injure brady on the first play and end his career... then take bellicheats knees out on the next play and end his career as well... that would be a great superbowl of course with the giants winning.

And who is the classless one here ? One thing to rout for your team, yet another to hope for people to get hurt.

I do feel for Underwood. Seems like Bill could have done this 2 weeks ago. It is a pretty cold-blooded move.

You call Belichick classeless and then hope for two career-ending injuries. Good thing I'm not taking lessons in class from you. You've already flunked out.

Teams do this kind of stuff all the time right before games in the regular season to gain a competitive edge, and now in the most important game of the year they're not supposed to??  Most of the posters on this board are swapping players on and off their fantasy rosters five minutes before games to get an advantage.  If Underwood isn't going to play, why have him on the roster?  Maybe, *maybe* the timing could have been better, but this wreaks of a total non-story.
