Todd Haley's going to have a new gig in 2012 and it's a pretty good one: he's headed to Pittsburgh to take over as offensive coordinator after Bruce Arians recently "retired" to take the Colts job.

“I am excited about the opportunity to come back home and work for a tremendous organization,” Haley said in a statement. “It is an honor to work with the Rooney family and Coach Tomlin and continue the success that has become synonymous with the Steelers. My father has so many fond memories both from his playing days and his time in the personnel department with the team, and I look forward to helping bring more championships to Pittsburgh and to being a part of one of the storied franchises in the NFL.”

When Haley was head coach of the Chiefs, his team never finished with a passing offense ranked any higher than 25th. And Haley topped out at ranking 18th in passing attempts in his first year in KC.

But while he was with the Cardinals, under former Steelers offensive coordinator Ken Whisenhunt, Haley slung the ball around like crazy. Arizona, at the time with Kurt Warner, finished second in passing attempts both seasons and was top 10 in the league in points scored both seasons.

Ben Roethlisberger, Mike Wallace, Antonio Brown and Emmanuel Sanders provide a much closer approximation to those Warner teams than Matt Cassell and Dwayne Bowe do.

We'd heard word that Haley was interviewing with the Cards, but also that Haley didn't want to take anything less than a coordinator job. Pittsburgh gives him a fantastically soft landing spot after a rough tenure with KC.

It also means that both Roethlisberger (unhappy with Arians departure) and Art Rooney (wanting more points) should be happy. So it's a great fit, as long as there aren't any big ego clashes and the Steelers don't bug Haley's cell phone. Allegedly.

Report: Steelers to hire Todd Haley as OC

suckinnj4,
If you are telling me that your team has class, then that is a joke. I always will give them their due when they actually win, but to say the likes of James "Head Hunter" Harrison, Rashard Mendenhall and Ben Rapelisberger make that team "classy" is a joke. You have virtually no class, and if it wasn't for Troy Polomalu or Hines, your team would have none at all.
Keep those memories of success sweet bro. Unless you can replace those aging stars on your defense, and players of the caliber of Ward, then you've got problems. And that's not to say I don't realize our defense is aging too, but they are still producing at a high level.

Scarne2,
Your kicker is Shaun Suisham...and before that Jeff Reed who completely bashed his fans and made numerous excuses for his struggles before getting released by the team. If I recall I think the Ravens swept the Steelers this year, and made it further than the Steelers did...wait you guys lost to TIM TEBOW!!!! So back off of Cundiff. I'd take him over Suisham any day. The man was nearly automatic from inside the 50 yard line.

You want to talk about the Ravens choking???? Let's see, we swept you in the regular season, and in the playoffs your team lost to Tim Tebow. Need I say more?

Ravens98--you morons had your chance this year and as usual CHOKED.  Only difference was this year it was in New Eng rather than Pitt.  Get over it--your team will always be the king of regular season and a playoff Choker.  Joe "cool" is so good that his own teammates threw him under the bus---What a joke, you commenting on anything.  As for Ariens--i cant imagine his offensive will be hard to improve on---w/o Ben keeping plays alive until somebody finally got open his play calling wasnt that great.

My fear, the Patriots take Wallace off the free agent market.  They have two picks in the first and can afford to give up the 31st pick for a proven deep threat.  Brady with those two big TEs and Welker with the addition of Wallace?  Scary!  Steelers better try to get him signed before free agency starts.  But then again, the addition of another 1st rd pick for the Steelers may not be that bad.

You replace Bruce Arians with Todd Haley!

Get rid of a legend and hire a jackass.

Wow! As a Chiefs fan I can only say...good luck with that.

What a jerk, Big Ben is going to deck this guy by week 5 I guarantee it. In fact Im hoping there are some odds on Bodog...brb.

A tremendously well run organization, making another good move.  I don't think anyone will know for sure how this works out until the system is in place, but under Arians, the offense underachieved.  He was popular with atleast Roethlisberger, but the fact is, they did not produce consistently enough to push the Steeler offense to a level in keeping with their talent.  I expect this will play out well for them, and they will be contending for a trip to Bourbon Street next year.  Steelers have made alot of tough decisions in the past, and I can't think of any that backfired.  They are a classic sell high, buy low franchise whose personnel decisions pay very good dividends.
