Man who bet on SB safety to donate to charity

In the immediate aftermath of the first-quarter safety in Super Bowl XVLI, when Justin Tuck forced Tom Brady into an intentional grounding penalty while throwing from the end zone, a few writers in the auxiliary press box started looking up the prop bet odds that surely would pay off in a huge way for at least one person.

Well, a guy named Jona Rechnitz had played a $1,000 wager that a safety would occur, and with those 50-1 odds, he suddenly was $50,000 richer. But not for long.

That’s because as TMZ reports (via Yahoo Sports), Rechnitz plans to donate all the post-tax money to various charities, including one of Brady’s choice. Rechnitz, a big Giants fan, also apparently wants to donate $5,000 to the charity of Tuck’s choice.

Even crazier, Rechnitz -- who owns a capital investment firm in Manhattan and who apparently does quite well for himself -- only makes one Super Bowl bet per year. Luckily for him and his future recipients, this year’s wager panned out rather nicely.

Not that it matters, but the FAIR thing would be if everyone paid the same percentage of tax. For example everyone would pay 10% of what they earned in taxes. Same rate for everyone. Then everyone could shut up.

Whoever told you life is fair was jerking your chain...

JohnDimitri, you're a dolt.  Did you research the "Obama plan" (as you call it) to come to that conclusion or did someone give you youor opinion?  Know what you're talking about before posting.

The Obama plan? Enlighten me...

Of course there are no laws called that.  That would be too overt.  But it is happening covertly all around you.  What do you think Obamacare is?  Everyone who currently has health insurance will pay a little more so those who currently don't have it can have it too.  Personally I don't agree with it.  If you do, that's your choice.  However, don't try to pretend that's not Obama's view of the world.

First off what does this have to do with the column? Secondly what is the "Obama system of wealth redistribution"? I've never seen a law or a proposed law that's called that or does what you say it does- and that's because you made it up based on some propaganda you saw on FOX or heard on a nonsense commercial.

For future reference, stick to the subject and leave your right wing agenda on the politico pages!

Then feel free not to respond if you don't like it.  However, after bashing us for talking about it you then proceed to put your two political cents in, you are very interesting.

The Filthy Rich keep themselves Filthy Rich. Because it is their choice. They choose to be Filthy Rich. It is a free choice. I can not believe this turned into a political thread now.

No but if I was worth like 100 million and you were my neighbor and I saw you eating out of trash cans Id be happy to help you out since I could give you more money then you'd ever make in your life and at the end of the day guess what i would still be...Filthy Rich.

The bold part is the important part, it would indicate that you have a choice.  Taxes are not voluntary they are compulsory.  You are aptly describing generosity.  When it plays out in taxes the guy eating out of the trash can would be holding a gun demanding a certain percentage of you income (far and above his actual need for necessities) or he would forcibly remove it from you and/or imprison you.

Let's say you own a company that makes widgets and you make $1 million a year. I'm your neighbor and I also own a company that makes widgets, except I only make $500,000 a year.....Are you going to give me $250K so we both make $750,000?? I doubt it!  But, that's basically the premise of the Obama system of wealth redistribution!
